This listing is for an 18th Century English George II Tall Case Chest of Two over Four Drawers. Featuring original Queen Anne period brass hardware and ... moreall original locks, circa 1740-50. It is a beautiful piece with a simple form so successful commercially that it was copied in bedroom furniture for nearly 300 years, the same form being used in case pieces today. It is of outstanding craftsmanship being formed almost entirely of solid Cuban Mahogany, today a rare and restricted wood of incredible cost, known for it's dark and dense grain formations. A carved crown molding wraps around the front and sides. Repaired in numerous areas along, completing the smooth finished top of the case. The sides of the case are two boards that blind-dovetail at the top and through-dovetail at the bottom. The face of the case features two smaller drawers over four graduated larger drawers, each with full molded lips of the solid and fully original brass Queen Anne brass hardware, an original lock on every drawer(except the bottom) with many secured with original hand forged rose head nails and a few screws. Each drawer is hand dovetailed. Uniquely with graduating dovetails- the top two drawers have two dovetails, the next drawer down has three dovetails, the third down four dovetails, fourth with five dovetails and the bottom drawer with six. The top two drawers are divided by an upright bar with a half-dovetail joint penetrating the crossbar. Each drawer is divided with full dust board divisions, mahogany along the face, pine secondary woods making up the rest of the dust board. The dust board is primarily an English invention, found only infrequently on American case pieces, and conveniently protects clothing and items in drawers below from being dirtied by the drawer action. The back of the case is made up of one original board and the rest replaced. All re-secured with newer nails- a label inside on one of the replaced boards refers to a furniture depository in England. The case rests over four bracket feet, one rebuilt,

18th Century Williamsburg Virginia Chippendale Chest of Drawers "John Selden"
18th Century Williamsburg Virginia Chippendale Chest of Drawers"John Selden" Search Ok. We do not have the credentials to fully attribute this beautiful chippendale mahogany(maybe walnut) chest of drawers with pine secondary woods to John Selden from Norfolk, VA. Our Williamsburg/John Selden attribution comes from viewing similar chests on the internet. This piece was purchased from a Norfolk, VA. estate. Please view the link provided for more information. And, you can use google to find similar pieces attributed to John Selden for sale at a gallery in PA for over $30K. To find the one at the PA gallery.you'll need to type"John Seldon chest of drawers"the spelling is wrong at that site. This link shows the bottom of the clothes press and the similarities in our chest. Mostly original. The finish was probably done sometime ... moreago. The bail handle pulls appear to be original with the exception of the one replaced rosette. The pull on top drawer left side looks to have been moved a fraction of an inch. Also. It's identical to the other pulls but it looks a little smaller than the others, so it might be a replacement. Full dustboards(we realize full dustboards is more of an English feature but if you research this link you'll find that John Selden used full dustboards as well) and they are undoubtly a Virginia feature, Norfolk, Petersburg, Williamsburg. Another site that actually shows a chest that was on display at the Governor's Palace in Williamsburg. It shows the full dustboards as well. http:gatesantiques.com/archives/1266 In the below link you can find information about John Selden being commissioned to refurnish the Governor's Palace in Williamsburg. http:www.archive.org/stream/journalofearlyso1811992muse/journalofearlyso1811992muse_djvu.txt Beautiful handmade square head and rose head nails throughout the chest. Full dovetail(case and drawers)construction throughout as well. Some of the bracket feet have newer screws added for support. Measures: 33.75"tall x 19.75&quo
Antique 18th Century English George II Mahogany Tall Chest of Drawers c. 1750
This listing is for an 18th Century English George II Tall Case Chest of Two over Four Drawers. Featuring original Queen Anne period brass hardware and all original locks, circa 1740-50. The face of the case features two smaller drawers ... moreover four graduated larger drawers, each with full molded lips of the solid and fully original brass Queen Anne brass hardware, an original lock on every drawer(except the bottom) with many secured with original hand forged rose head nails and a few screws.

17th/18th Century Oak Coffer with Inlaid Top. Rare. About as Rustic as Possible!
Description Antique Oak Coffer. Two dates here, the lower section is very early probably about c1670, the lid is a bit later, probably c1720. This is such an amazing piece. It's the most rustic thing I have ever owned, the timbers look ancient, they are grizzled and worn, rough cut in places(the back looks like it was roughly hacked off a tree) and just looks wonderful, if only it cold talk, it must have seen so much interesting history in it's 340 odd years! The top is a little later. And very unusually has satinwood and ebony triangular inlays, this is very very rare, these things are always just plain oak or some light carving(like this one has on the front) but very rarely do they have inlays. The inlays are fairly provincial looking and definately hand applied and cut, they again are just great to behold! If you love it. Grab ... moreit quick, I think it'll be a long time before you see one similar, if ever! Dimensions: 120 wide. 62 high and 50 deep. All in cm. Antique Italian Cassone Wedding Chest from 15th - 18th century
This is an Italian cassone. Also known as an Italian Wedding Chest. Age: somewhere between the 15th and 18th century? Material: apparently this is walnut. It was acquired by George Grey Barnard, famous for collecting medieval artifacts. He acquired it in Italy near the turn of 1900 while he was collecting the original medieval artifacts that made up the first Cloisters Museum. That collection was later sold to the NY Metropolitan Museum and became the foundation of what is now the Cloisters at the Met. This chest was used in his house then later passed down through the family to us, his great grand children. It measures 58" long x 19" wide x 21" high. NOTE: Will deliver personally if within reasonable distance(perhaps within several hundred miles of the Boston area)

RARE 18TH CENTURY SWEDISH ANTIQUE MARRIAGE CHEST WITH IRON STRAPS AND STAND
This large rare marriage chest originates from North Europe. Likely Sweden and dates to around 1730c. The detail to the iron work is just remarkable and shows unbelievable quality for its age. Some of the original paint can still be seen. Which adds a beautiful rich patina to the piece. The overall condition is near excellent. It does have the usual knocks and marks as can be expected. However nothing of concern. The iron stand is a later addition, likely early 20th Century. But suits it well and helps make it a statement piece. 58 cm H x 118 cm W x 60 cm D MORE PICTURES HERE. American Chippendale Antique Blanket Chest, Pennsylvania, Late 18th Century
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT BLANKET CHEST Pennsylvania. C. 1760-80 Item# 1401CGP11PP This well preserved and highly austere American Chippendale blanket chest is clearly a work from South Central. Pennsylvania. Executed in thick walnut planks in all primary surfaces, utilizing walnut also for the back board and poplar for the bottom board, this chest was built to last for generations. The large dovetails that line all corners are bold and extremely precise, these left intentionally exposed as a statement of quality and longevity. The top is edged in a nicely formed molding, affixed with large wooden pegs along the front and joined to the sides on through tenons and tightened with a wedge driven between the tenon and molding. The ... moretop lifts on huge hand forged iron strap hinges to reveal the clean and spacious interior and small till on the left. The original lock and clasp are still fully functioning in the interior, this large lock a highly effective design that can hold the weight of the large lid without strain. On either side of the chest. Large original hand forged iron handles are conveniently attached for easy transport- identical handles are documented in Fabian's work on the Pennsylvania-German Decorated Chest(p. 94) found on a chest inscribed c. 1775. Several interesting examples in his book are also resting over the somewhat unusual"shoe" footing found on this chest; we have spent some time examining these and are convinced they are original to the chest. No other holes exist on the underside. These unmoved from their original positions. Each is affixed to the bottom with two original wooden pins, supplemented by later added steel screws(19th Century) each finished with a carved toe that is quite attractive. The bottom is joined to the case in a somewhat novel manner, using very evenly spaced wooden pegs driven through the bottom into the sides of the case to lock the bottom to

Beautiful Antique Circa 1750's 18th Century Carved Elm Dough Bin
Beautiful Antique circa 1750's 18th Century Carved Elm Dough Bin Beautiful Antique Circa 1750's 18th Century Carved Elm Dough Bin A fine excellent example of a Georgian Dough Bin and Proving Table In excellent solid condition. And with spectacular carved detail. History of the Dough Bin Baking used to be an important weekly task in many households. Bread was a staple food in Europe and North America. People depended on having plenty of it: not just medieval peasants with scant resources. But 19th century middle-class families too. A family of ten needed“three pecks” of flour for a week’s bread. Three pecks is roughly 27 litres The flour was tipped into a dough box or trough to start bread-making. It held the flour more tidily than a bowl. If the trough was on legs it didn’t need to sit on a table. And could be moved to a part of the ... moreroom where the temperature was right. The flour had to be warmed in winter if it had come in from a cold barn or cellar. And a dough box was a good place for that. Once the yeast was added the mixture had to stay quite warm for the dough to rise into a nice“sponge” which would make light bread. You could knead the dough thoroughly in a box-shaped trough without spilling much flour. The box’s position near the fire was important. The lid was good for keeping in the warmth. And it protected the dough from mice, ash, or other horrors: especially useful if the dough was left to rise a long time. Overnight was not unusual. Slow rising generally improved flavour and texture, and did not require temperatures near to blood heat. The lid offered a surface for shaping the risen dough into loaves and then leaving them to rise again after being handled. 18th CENTURY CHIPPENDALE NEW ENGLAND PINE BLANKET CHEST-GREAT ORIGINAL FINISH
18th CENTURY NEW ENGLAND PINE BLANKET CHEST With our compliments we are pleased to offer you this fine original 18th Century New England Country Chippendale pine blanket chest with two false drawers over two real drawers. This piece is in a wonderful original condition. The only minor exception is some newer screws being placed in its interior hinges as the origal screws gradually fell out over the years. We will dig up some nice period screws and address this minor issue. We had to photograph this piece coming off the truck as we are under the gun by the sheer amount of pieces that came in our last acquisition. This was in extremely harsh sunlight. This piece has a much richer finish and we will re-photograph this as soon as we can find the extra time. This fine country primitive has cut out sides. Walnut turned turnip front legs and a great ... morescale. It is 41" long, 17 1/2" wide(deep) and 40 1/2" tall. 18th century antique trunk deer hide cow animal hide dome traveling chest EB
Late 18th century deer or cow hide covered some top wooden trunk or chest. Adorned with breads studs and donning the initials E.B. Just amazing piece of history. Could be fixed up or appreciated for what it is! Unusual to see paper lined inside so well intact especially with original tag on the inside describing some maker of some elements of the trunk- Sam L. Ash who I had read about once being well renowned engraver of the last quarter of the 18th century. This trunk does have condition issues. Please review photos carefully and ask any and all questions prior to any bidding. Notes: hide is detaching and or missing in numerous areas, hair missing from sections, signs of water damage in small areas, peeling paper inside, general wear and tear.
1741 18th Century Heavy Carved European Dowry Chest Coffer All Original with Key
This listing is for a truly awesome. All original 18th century European dowry chest or coffer. The face of the coffer has four floral panels. At the bottom of the panels, Anno 1741" is spelled out, giving the date of creation as 1741. The border above the panels is carved with the name Trincke Gerdes. This was most likely a marriage chest, though it could have also been made as a blanket chest at her birth or later as a gift for some other rite of passage. Regardless of its purpose, this chest is an exceptional example. The chest is held together with wooden pegs and nails with mortised details at the back. It has its original heavy cast iron carrying handles on each side. Best of all, it has its original key and locking mechanism, and they still work together. The original till box is also still attached to the inside of the chest with ... morehand wrought iron nails. The till box has a false bottom, but you can access the lower compartment by sliding the mortised side of the box up. As you might expect, the chest has age and use-related wear. The top has a beautiful patina but is nevertheless covered in small scratches and dings as shown. One side of the chest has a horizontal crack where the iron handle put pressure on the wood while being carried, and the other side has a small crack in the moulding under the panel. There is a horizontal crack 1/3 of the way across the first floral panel, diagonal cracks around the wood pegs between the first and second and third and fourth panels, a crack in the moulding under the third floral panel, and a horizontal crack all the way across the tulip design on the fourth panel. The lock is a little tricky, but nevertheless works and cannot be opened without the key. These defects are very common for pieces of this age and style of construction, and as you can see they do nothing to detract from the beauty or functionality of the piece. The 12 picture limit was obviously not enough; I have many more pictures of this chest and would also be happy to take specific pictures by req

Up for your consideration is this late 18th century/early 19th century cow hide covered trunk or chest. This early chest still has its original hand forged iron hardware.
