The lock incomplete and it has obviously been well used which is understandable if it was a child's toy. There is a hinge in the bottom that looks like it should be attached to the top. I may have mixed the doll clothes and the baby clothes as it is hard to tell with some of them. I think this must be two different lots of clothes as some look considerable older than others. Some are stained, none have been cleaned as I don't dare try. There is quite a variety of dresses, pantaloons, bibs,bonnets etc. some quite lovely and in good condition, some quite worn. Up for auction is an Antique Vintage Wood Leather Traveling Chest circa late 1700’s. The chest is made out of wood. Was once covered in cow hide(most of which has worn off) and has leather hinges. It measures 17.5 inches long x 10 inches wide x 7.5 inches high and has a metal clasp/ lock(with no key) The top part of the lock is no longer attached to the lid. The handle on the top is also missing. The inside of the chest is lined with newspaper which has a date of Tuesday. April 1, 1794 from the Catskill Packet. The chest was purchased from an estate sale and I have no further information or back ground on it. Shipping includes insurance.

It would serve well as a coffee table as it is-it's a perfect medium size. It's made from solid oak with a warm medium oak original. Patinated finish. The lock parts are original but a portion of the hasp is missing. This chest is in good antique condition, especially considering its age. The legs are well worn and there are repairs to the lower parts of the ... morerear legs(see photos) There is a very small amount of old dry rot along the bottom edges and also a lot of small chips and scratches as you would expect on a 300 year old chest like this. Antique Painted Arched Top Wood Trunk Forged Nails Hardware Antique Road Show.
A real antique treasure. Paper lining lid 1826(has ad for the sale of a slave) A sad part of our country's heritage. It also has a loose newspaper from 1924. The trunk is much older than the paper. I think it is from the 1700's or before. I can't remember anymore although it is very very early. It came out of the Pennsylvania area. We took this trunk to antiques road show in Milwaukee several years ago and one of the twins said its value was $500.00. We had to wait in line for 7 hours. We won't be doing that again. I purchased it in the 70's and paid $500.00. We were celebrating our 200 year as a country. At Christmas I used it with antique toys and Christmas decorations. It was a fun piece to own. The measurements are 24"x 12"x 11" It is in good condition for its age. It would be interesting to know what ... moreit went through.
