The chest features four graduated drawers over straight bracket feet, the drawer fronts and top inlaid with boxwood stringing and a border of mahogany banding with very interesting figuring. The drawer linings are all mahogany, which was quite extravagant. The hardware is replaced but of the period and correct for the piece. The chest measures 39" high by 44" wide by 22" deep. On the inside of the lid there is a very old list of family members birth going back to either 1800 or 1808. This can be seen in the 6th picture. The slope is in good authentic condition and is very well crafted. It features 2 hidden drawers behind a releasable board. It works well. The wood has been cleaned and polished so the rosewood grain as ever looks rich and vibrant, especially contrasting ag ainst the mother of pearl dots. Keyhole and escutheon. The interior features a purple felt covered slope and 2 ink wells. One of which with a top. In good condition with some slight markings commensurate with age. Presenting a beautiful. Original, circa 1780 chest of drawers, from the George III period of English furniture. Veneer is mahogany, and base wood is oak. The condition of this piece is excellent, and it would be a beautiful addition to your collection. There is one scratch on the top, which is shown in the photos, about 8 inches long. There are small scratches around the drawer pulls, only visible up-close, and due to 230 years of wear and tear. Gorgeous patina, in near perfect condition. 2 of the scussion plates were replaced, on the bottom 2 drawers- it is not noticeable and only gives the piece more character. Liquor Box Measures approx. 18" x 18" x 14.5" deep Mahogany and brass-bound octagonal wine cooler(cellarette) We believe this is English, but was possibly made in Scotland. Was purchased in London in 1975 for £750(see original receipt) The hinged lid is above beautiful. Somewhat burled, solid mahogany panels. Has 3 brass bands and side carrying handles, as well as brass lock and handle. There is no key. It is led-lined with sections for 9 bottles. The stand has four square legs. English George III Period Breakfront (1770)
Large circa 1770 English George III period breakfront bookcase believed to have been made for Henwick Court. Incorporates six interlocking units of solid Cuban mahogany timber to the moldings. Base-boards, the vertical boards serving as sides for each section, the interior sliding shelves in the central lower cabinet, and the cornice and central'broken pediment' 103 1/2" tall by 113" long at the cornice. One deep drawer is lined with lead and was intended to serve as an ice cooler for wine, another is designed for storing flatware. Have the original bill of sale from WJ Sloane NYC. The last appraisal was done in August 2010 by Jeff Chandler of Wartmann Chandler Appraisal, Madison, WI, where the item is currently located.
