Finely engraved and further decorated with copper and silver inlays in lines of Arabic script and with decorative patterns. These are real quality. Not recent tourist stuff. They are wholly hand made, they are very heavy for their size. There are visible zig zag silver soldered seams where the necks were added to the vases during manufacture- I'd date them to the last years of the nineteenth century or the very early years of the twentieth. Size: about 6 inches high(15.5 cm) Weight: 782 grammes Condition: good: all the inlay is intact.there are minor dents to the bases and rims. One rim has a small split, and that same vase has some verdigris on the side that will need attention. I could find no references on these beautiful antique red clay candle holders other than a pitcher posted with very much the same design listed as Ottoman. Also without a signature. I'm sure they are hand decorated by the yellow and blue rings on the base and the multi-color pulled glaze design at the tops. Obviously hand designed as well noting the silt flecks atop of the glaze. One has a top clear glaze loss ding but otherwise no major chips, hairlines or repairs. Pair Antique Ottoman Islamic Solid Silver Filigree Zarfs c1890;Abdul Hamid II
Extremely Fine and Rare pair of Antique Turkish Ottoman era Solid Silver filigree Zarfs. c1890. With their fine gilded porcelain coffee cans and still contained in their original silk lined presentation box. All miraculously untouched. Important items. Zarfs were coffee cup holders. Although coffee was probably discovered in Ethiopia it was in Ottoman Turkey in the 13th century that it became popular as a beverage. As with the serving of tea in China and Japan. The serving of coffee in the Ottoman Empire was a complex ritual. It was served in small cups which were placed inside zarfs to protect the cup and also the fingers of the drinker from the hot liquid. Cups themselves were typically porcelain like these but it was the holder, being the visible part that tended to be more ornamental and collected these days. The cups are rarely found. ... moreZarfs were made out of various materials like wood. Copper and brass. These are extremely fine solid silver filigree examples and would have belonged to a wealthy family. They would date to late 19th century, during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II(see photo 7) Condition is superb. Even the original presentation box is in very good order with some reassuring rust to the clasp and some gentle rubbing to the corners. The silk lined interior is excellent. The porcelain cups are excellent and unused. The solid silver filigree zarfs are untouched and all the filigree intact. The zarfs are as fine as I have ever seen and the quality of the filigree is outstanding. They weigh a combined 74g or 2.6oz which is heavy for filigree work. They are 61mm high. Important and exquisite token of antique Islamic Ottoman art for the very serious collector.

Here is a great pair of possibly museum quality antique late 19th or early 20th century finely painted Isfahan style Middle Eastern miniature paintings of nomadic musicians playing music as well as another group eating and drinking. Hand drawn and painted. This might be color and ink on what appears to be a thick paper. The frame is gold gilt faux bamboo with a Chippendale style look and the paintings were hand matted with a silk mat 1 3/4" wide and a small 1/4" mat between the silk and the painting. Circa right after the turn of the century. Both paintings are beautifully painted with delicate brushwork, a beautiful palette of colors, dynamic and lively compositions, and they are wonderful depiction of the scenes. Antique Pair of Indo Persian Islamic Ewer Jug- 11.75" High- Repousse Scenes Pair of gilt metal Indo Persian ewers dating to late 19th/ early 20th century. The ewers are of urn form. With neck ring and tapered spout, with applied scroll handles. They have repousse figured hunting scenes set within foliate scroll grounds. There is fluted feather detail to the shoulders. Condition; one ewer has 2 very small holes to the handles& one to the neck. Both ewers stand well although there is some movement if pushed. Please see photos.
