For sale is this extremely rare antique Persian papier mache box. It comes complete with a breathtaking rare handmade bone comb. It also comes with a watercolour painting of a Qajar King which looks like M ozaffar Al din shah. The papier mache box has been hand painted on both sides with a scene of a young lady. I believe the item dates from the early 1800's. The comb has been beautifully handmade to perfection- very fine quality. However the aspect that makes this such a rare and collectible item is the letter inside. It is from a man writing to his wife/ girlfriend. It is dated may 1900. The writer explains that he is sending various gifts to his partner and included is this comb. He explains that the normal people have wooden combs and only higher members of society have these bone combs. There is breathtaking Arabic calligraphy and geometric patterns created from the silver inlay. Mosque lamps are very difficult to make as they have to have their design cut inorder to let the light shine through the empty spaces. This one in particular is superior quality as the design is extremely fine and very hard to complete to this standard. It also comes with the blue glass lamp which would have been used to create the light inside by filling it with oil etc. It comes complete with all its original components. It has been hand chased with THE MOST BEAUTIFUL designs I have come across. There is a large central motif with wild mythical beasts. Breathtaking birds and extremely well executed floral patterns all over. Two aspects of this tray make it a very rare and collectible item. First is the stunning and very dramatic lion- like beasts. The fierce expressions on their faces has been flawlessly hand chased. The second aspect is the two lines of Kufic script at the top and bottom of the tray. Antique Persian service tea set 5 piece hand engraved museum quality
5 piece antique Persian service set- tray. Coffee pot, teapot, creamer, and sugar bowl. All hand engraved. The tray has a unique design with peacocks, cranes or some type of birds on it. The rest of the pieces have sultans or warriors on them. This set came out of a WWII veterans storage unit. I have researched this and haven't been able to find much out about it. So I am unsure of the age. But it is possibly between the 1700s-1850s. I have not been able to find any old sets like this that are complete, like this one is. The 2 similar sets i have found like this were over $100k, but my reserve is no where near that price. Not sure of the metal used but I think it is some kind of a brass-silver alloy due to the colors of the pieces. I have not tried cleaning the set. For its age the condition is very good. The smaller. Teapot lid is not ... moreattached but the piece to fix it is in the teapot. The larger, coffee pots handle is loose from it and it looks like someone has tried to fix it. The creamer has a small dent on the base. I cant find any hallmarks or markings on the pieces. The tray is approximately 16x12 inches. The coffee pot is approximately 9 inches tall. The teapot is approximately 8 inches tall. The creamer is approximately 7 inches tall. The sugar bowl is approximately 6 inches tall. The engravings are very deeply done. The handles on the coffee and tea pot have a dragon head design. The spouts also have engravings on them. It is obvious that this set is all hand made. It is made from brass and has been hand chased with beautiful scenes of Qajar people and animals and very fine floral patterns. There is also an open work designs added to the design. The ewer and basin are made from brass but have been inlaid with silver in the form of very fine arabesque floral motifs and some of the finest calligraphy of Arabic script I have seen on an item like this. The basin and ewer also been hand chased with similar patterns underneath the silver inlay work. The set I believe is most likely Syrian and dates from late 1800's. Perhaps very early 1900's. These would have been used on the entrance doors of a building. However the one with the long stick knocker. Would have been used on the door for the Male entrance. The other one with the heart shaped knocker would have been used for the Ladies entrance of the building. So they have an interesting history behind them. The have a beaurtiful shape. And have been hand chased with beautiful calligraphy all over. I think these date from early Qajar Era during the late 18th century.
