The decoration is the same on both sides and there is a visible mould seam inside and out. The decoration is a group of two men on horseback- looks like they are fighting- and on the shoulder is a band of arabic script. this is an extremely rare handmade antique Persian copper and brass urn. it was made in early 1800's and made from thick heavy copper and brass. And dovetailed together. it has exquisite ornate hand engraved detailing on all sides and the handles are exquisite highly embossed lion heads with rings in mouth. the lid has a gorgeous figural brass finial. With a double face on both sides, the piece has exquisite patina from age and is in good shape. No dents. it is signed on the bottom. And measures 13 1/2 x 7 3/4 inches. SPECIFICATIONS: Maker/Item/Pattern# Unknown Information: This is a handpainted very unique pottery pot or jug or vessel that has two handles and a stopper on a chain as though it's intended purpose is to transport liquids in my opinion. It falls into numerous categories of appearance. Persian, Turkish, Middle Eastern and so forth. I searched and could not find any identifying makers marks on this stunning piece of history and craftsmanship. It has what I can only describe as floral pottery vessel with two handles covered by very intricate ornately applied silver in color metal that must have taken the artisan considerable time to design and apply. This was a gem to find recently and can say that I have never seen another like it nor have I found any even close to it in my research. ... moreIt appears to me to be quite aged but in spite of that it is in very solid condition with glaze imperfections that look to have occurred at the time this was made and a horizontal crack on the inside of one of the handles that is tight in appearance. The metalwork is stunning and the cap or stopper on top that removes is connected with a metal chain. Patina throughout this and I have not disturbed a thing on this piece and will allow the buyer to care for this as they see fit. This stands 14 1/2" tall with stopper in place. Please see pictures! A very attractive piece- It has vertical corrugation on the belly and is beautifully engraved around the neck- see the photographs. Which describe it a lot better than I can. But has worn at the bottom revealing the underlying solid copper. It has blackened at the base, as if this portion sat over a fire or was submerged in coals for heating. A hole has been made on the side-I don't know why, it now allows water to leak through. There is a heavy lid that is attached and fits well. I own. Have owned and have sold several of these pitchers. The bottle has writing as in photo#8. If anyone knows what it says I'd sure appreciate the help. The bowl is 2.5" tall and 5" in diameter. It's decorated around the side with a painted fish motif. The bottle is 5.5" tall(counting stopper) and approx. 4.5" at its widest. The only piece similar to these that I've found are listed as 18th century or older and are priced between $3.000-$4,500 for one piece. The thinner sides of the bottle have little imperfection crack lines in the glaze which I believe are natural imperfections in the pottery. There's some wear to the glaze of ... morethe stopper in one spot on the edge and some on the inner lip as in photo#4 but otherwise these pieces look great. I purchased these at an estate auction and am uncertain of their age, hopefully you'll know better than me but they could be quite old. A Superb Antique Qajar Period Persian Lidded Jar or Vase Decorated with Male and Female Figure among Flowers. A repeating band of fruit around the rim similar to that being offered by the male figure. Could be Yusuf and Zulaikha from the well known Persian story or this possibly could be a depiction of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The lid is decorated with flowers with a Flower Bud and Leaf Handle Circa late 19th Century or possibly very early 20th Century. Large Persian Islamic Copper Repousse Vase Jar Pot
Available for auction is a large. Beautifully made copper pot or jar measuring 10" inches in height and 11" inches in diameter. It is made of two separate pieces with a copper welded seam. The design is absolutely gorgeous and it is in excellent condition. Not sure of the use of this piece, but the base is slightly rounded and not flat. I believe it is a jar of some type. VERY NICE! I'm not exactly sure what this is but its interesting. Fine tear drop shaped brass or bronze container. It has great patina and a magnet doesn't stick to it so it must be solid brass or bronze. It looks Middle eastern to me. The decorative rings around the top hide the fact that the"loop" finial turns to lock or unlock it. If you look at the inside of top you will see an upper and lower flange or tab.the finial turns these to lock it. The tabs are worn and it does not lock well. you can jiggle it open no mater if you have it turned right or not. it seems very very old. its heavy and well made. there is a little number painted on it like from a collection or museum. maybe its a snuff bottle? powder horn? not sure.
