This auction is for a very heavy vintage silver plated sugar dispenser made by the fine British silversmiths Walker and Hall for a hotel in Beachy Head England in 1939. Beachy Head is famous for having the highest chalk Sea Cliff in Britain. This area is often filmed and featured in many movies. There are not many hotels in the area. But there is a Victorian"Cavenish Hotel" dating to 1873 that is still in operation today. This sugar shaker is clearly side marked with the letters"CH" Cavendish Hotel? and underneath the stylized letters is"B'Head. It is in excellent condition. With very little usage markings. This auction is for a RARE Large Old William Maurice Carmichael Silver plate Sugar Castor. The castor. Which measures approximately 7 3/8 inches tall. Is in good condition with no signs of silver wear through or monograms; however. There is some minor denting to the body of the castor(please see close-up photo) The body of the castor has a classic design. Aside from the old time use of sugar castor. These make wonderful shakers of Spices, Icing sugar on pastries or Parmesan Cheese on Pasta or Salads. The base of the castor is hallmarked with the Carmichael"MC" and the letter E.P.N.S. This is quite a special piece for both Collector of Canadiana or an avid Sugar Castor Collector. I copied this from the internet- W.M. Carmichael was Victoria-born and-educated. After a brief practice in civil engineering and service in the First World War, he opened his first workshop behind his parents' home in Oak Bay. The first products were jewellery and electroplated tableware made to Carmichael's own designs. In 1924 a Sheffield-trained silversmith. George Bennett, joined the firm and showrooms were opened in Victoria. Expansion continued during the 1920s with the establishment of a larger factory on Government Street in 1927, followed in 1929 by the construction of the impressive Tudor revival business premises on Fort Street. The firm prospered, even during the 1930s. From 1935 to 1940 a showroom on Vancouver's Howe Street was maintained by the firm and supplied from the Victoria workshops. I think its for sugar or jam. overall stands 10" There is a lid that was purchased with this castor and not pictured and is included. but it doesn't appear to fit. the jar is heave glass flutted and beaded pattern. no maker mark and does have a handle. Danish ? Silverplate Sugar Shaker / Castor - Solvplet
Up for the offering is this interesting Danish? or at least Scandinavian Silverplate Sugar Castor/ Shaker. I am of Danish heritage and I believe that Solvplet is the Danish word for silver plate- it also might in some other language as well. Ina addition to that there ia a C.MIO? possibly the maker's mark and 1951. That might be a pattern number rather than a date. It strikes me as being older than 1951. It is approx 7 7/8" tall and 3 1/2" at it's widest- sits on 4 feet. In good condition with light wear- most wear is on the ridges of the swirls on the top/ lid- showing brass underneath. This Auction is for Beautiful Floral Etched CRYSTAL SILVER plated Muffineer or SUGAR SHAKER. The metal rim is marked Regis Silver Plate which is a registered trade mark for the fine silversmiths of William Suckling Ltd. The Castor body is of thick and heavy crystal with multiple cuts to the design with virtually covers the entire surface area of the crystal. The sugar shaker measures approximately 6 3/4 inches in height and has a total weight of 348 grams. Both the Cut Crystal base and the silver plated top are in very good condition with minimal signs of use- with no chips or cracks(a couple of minor nibbles) No hazing or staining and no signs of silver wear through or monograms- just a very nice Old Castor. ANTIQUE CRANBERRY GLASS SILVERPLATE CAVIAR SUGAR SPOONER CASTOR
From my personal collection is a Beautiful Cranberry Glass. In Thumbprint pattern, caviar/sugar spooner castor with 12 places for spoons(no spoons) This is a quality set with no major issues but I will make sure to mention everything that I see. Condition.some very minor nicks around the top rim of the glass insert. Most likely from the lid being lifted off and on and would be considered normal wear. Also pictured is an imperfection to the inside of the bowl that would have happened when being made, not a crack or chip but rather a bubble burst, which is very common with true Victorian glassware, but just want to mention for accuracy. The beautiful cranberry insert is in the thumbprint pattern and does lift out of the holder for cleaning. This cranberry insert is Original to the holder! The metal holder and lid has expected normal wear and ... moreone small area on one side of the holder is raised slightly. This is a stunning piece of glass in a very decorative holder and. As time goes by, is getting harder to find this type of quality. As with any true antique. There will be the normal wear from years past and will make each item unique! Beautifully shaped vintage sugar shaker(castor or caster! with handle and lovely engraving. I have not tried to polish this piece. As it has a great vintage/antique look with the beautiful patina. Marked on the bottom with Reed and Barton as well as the number 70. Please look at all the photos before bidding. I am not an expert on item condition.
