Beautiful piece is very ornate. With grape vines around top and spout, and flora design on both sides with lovely pearl flowers. Please see photos. Bottom is well marked with Anchor logo and numbers. 2011" circa 1895-1904 Measurments are, 3-3/4 inches tall, 5-1/4 inches. Spout to handle, 3-3/4 inches diameter. Approx. Piece has slight dings. Very hard to detect and faint scratches. Common for the age. I do not clean my silver or brass peices, I love the patina. So it is your option. This is for a Vintage Silver Plate Homan It is Quapruple Plate. It is a Ornate Sugar Bowl. This measures 3½" high X 6" long from handle to handle. This is design with embossed flowers. Antique~Homan Silverplate Co~Pattern2014~Quadruple Plate~Creamer&Sugar Bowl~1896
This creamer and sugar bowl are at least 110 years old. They were made sometime between 1896 and 1904 by the Homan Silverplate Co. These belonged to my husband’s great grandmother. These pieces are pattern 2014. These are beautiful pieces with an etched flower design. The creamer has a dent close to the bottom(see photos) The dent is about 1 ¼” by ¾” It is close the bottom so it is not very noticeable at first glance. I would say that these were probably used on a daily basis so they have minor dings and marks. Silver is hard to photograph because of the reflection. But I hope you can see how beautiful these are. I have polished these and it seems like some of the silver plate has worn off on the lid of the sugar bowl. The little handle on the lid does not even seem to me to be silver. It was very tarnished. But did not polish up ... morelike the rest of it did. There are probably other small areas where the silver plate is worn off. I am in no way a silver expert. More like a novice, so please let me know if you have questions or if I have erred in my description. Read below to see the history of Homan Silver and an explanation of what quadruple plate means. The Homan Manufacturing Company of Cincinnati was founded in 1847 by Henry Homan and Asa Flagg. From 1847 to 1896. The name of their company was Homan and Company. With many of their early wares marked“Flagg& Homan” Primarily, their wares were made of a white metal alloy Britannia. Their“special metal” Britannia is a pewter-like metal made from tin that is hardened by adding small amounts of copper and antimony. Pewter was known as the“poor mans” silver, and by the 1850’s most companies had replaced it with Britannia metal, a higher quality of pewter ware prized for its color and durability. Homan Silver Plate Co. sugar bowl- beautifully ornate. Marked on bottom Homan Silver Plate Co. Quadruple Plate- 2037/I assume this is a pattern number- Special Metal. Weighs 1 lb. 1/2 oz- 6" tall- 7" wide from handle to handle- top is 3" in diameter- base is approx 4" wide at its fattest. I don't see any obvious dents or dings but there are some minor scratches and marks which I would expect from such an old piece. I have not polished it at all. There is ver little. If any, pitting inside. I tried to do a little research on the Homan Silver Plate Company online and believe this piece is late 1800's to very early 1900's. I found one site which said that it became the Homan Manufacturing Company in 1904 which would date this sugar bowl before then. I am not an antiques dealer- just a person who loves the old ... moresilverplate pieces and sometimes I have too many! I think they are beautiful pieces of history and I actually use many of them. I love the connection of using something that someone else used 100 years or more ago. That being said. Please understand that my description is made to the best of my limited knowledge of what I'm selling- and what I'm seeing in front of me.
