ANTIQUE 1718 ENGLISH 958 SILVER SUGAR BOWL w/LID Presented is a very nice old English first standard silver sugar bowl with lid. This piece dates to 1718. It's worth noting that the silver purity used is 958. A higher degree of purity than sterling which is 925. The sugar bowl is done in a very classical style, raised on a pedestal base. There is a large shield crest engraved on the body, and a smaller crest of a man's profile on the lid. The interior of the lid has a marriage inscription or monogram of'R& B A' The base has another monogram of'DW' A fantastic piece of antique English silver, just shy of 300 years old and in great shape, ready to join your collection. This piece is hallmarked on the side with the Britania mark for 958 purity ... moresilver. The lion's head erased for the city of London, the date letter C for 1718, and the maker's mark for William Fleming. The lid is also hallmarked with the lion's head erased and the maker's mark. This piece is in great overall condition. There is some surface wear. As should be expected considering age. There are no splits, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. This piece stands approximately 3 inches tall with lid. And has a diameter of about 4.5 inches. This piece weighs 190 grams or 6.6 regular ounces. Good luck and bid with confidence. A most unusual silver plated sugar and cream caddy made by the creme de la creme of English Silversmith's. Elkington& Company. Both the large Sugar basket and Creamer give the appearance of being created from coopered wood, the sugar appearing just like a wooden bucket or pail. The interior of both are washed in gold. Very beautiful and HEAVY silver Sheffield sugar and creamer from England. Simple in design but stately at the same time. Nice addition to your holiday table this month. The height of the sugar is almost 3 1/2" and the width on the opening is 2 3/4" The base is 4" The Sugar bowl weighs ONE POUND 2 OZ. And the creamer weighs FOURTEEN OUNCES. The creamer is almost 4" high and the opening is 2 1/4" The base is almost 3 1/2" wide. The bottom of the creamer is stamped E P N S. Hard soldered and made in Sheffield, England. These are silver plated on copper material. First. The sugar and bowl has on the bottom Wm. A. Rogers, Old English Reproduction#6133 on the bottom. Offered here is a very nice large monogrammed sugar bowl made in England in 1855. The hallmarks are very hard to read. The date mark is legible(see photos) and the letters"EP" Meaning electroplated. It measures just over 6" tall by just under 7" wide. Estate Hand Chased English Silverplate Sugar Scuttle Bowl w/ Scoop Silverplated
We acquired a large amount of mid-century English hotel quality silverplated holloware from a Fairfield County. Connecticut estate and will be listing some of the items this week. Here we have a gorgeous silverplate sugar scuttle or bowl with the original scoop. This lovely piece is hand chased(engraved) with a floral decorative engraving on the top. The edges of the opening have a very traditional beaded treatment which is repeated around the base. The handles at the top and back are done in a rococco style. The entire scuttle swivels on the base. It is just beautiful and modelled after sterling silver sugar scuttles from the 1700's. It is meant to hold sugar cubes. Personally, I serve cubes of raw sugar at the end of dinner parties with coffee and tea and my guests are always surprised and enchanted by this. The scuttle is about 5.5" ... moretall to the top of the handle and about 6" wide from the tip of the mouth to the edge of the handle on the back. This piece is silver plate over copper. Which makes it more valuable than today's pieces which are plated over a base metal. This particular piece probably dates from the 1930's-early 1950's. Aside from sugar cubes. I could see this pretty container used in the marble bathroom to hold cotton wool or Q-Tips or even guest soaps. You could also possibly use it for potpourri but I would probably line the bottom with waxed paper first to keep the silverplate from tarnishing. Our items are vintage and are sold'as is. These are in excellent used condition with no dents but do obviously have a fair amount of blush showing through at some of the fluted areas. There is no reserve on this beautiful Silver Plate Sugar Scuttle& Scoop. Here we have this lovely 19 th c. sugar scuttle with original scoop. It is English and marked EPBM and we think the maker’s mark is H& H Co. but it is hard to make out. There is also a# 9306. The design of this piece is very simple and elegant with only beading around the opening and echoed around the base. There are two matching handles on the top and on the back. The very back has a sort of repousse starburst design. The scoop fits into an ingenious little loop under the opening of the scuttle. We found a nice little sugar or sweetmeat basket, with a delightful turned or twisted handle, glass bowl liner, and silver plated spoon. The spoon is stamped Sheffield, but the basket is simply marked"England" I am assuming they go together, but am not sure, and am also not sure of the age of this set, although all of the collectibles at the estate sale were 1895-1950. This set needs to be cleaned of tarnish. I used a silver cleaning cloth on the spoon only, just to make sure it would clean. I find no chips. Cracks, or imperfections, other than those listed herein.
