Antique Wood Leather Travel Chest / Trunk c. Late 1700's
Up for auction is an Antique Vintage Wood Leather Traveling Chest circa late 1700’s. The chest is made out of wood. Was once covered in cow hide(most of which has worn off) and has leather hinges. It measures 17.5 inches long x 10 inches wide x 7.5 inches high and has a metal clasp/ lock(with no key) The top part of the lock is no longer attached to the lid. The handle on the top is also missing. The inside of the chest is lined with newspaper which has a date of Tuesday. April 1, 1794 from the Catskill Packet. The chest was purchased from an estate sale and I have no further information or back ground on it. Shipping includes insurance.

Antique 1800's Large Sole Leather Trunk Made By Haskell Brothers Chicago IL
Awesome 1800's Antique Sole Leather Trunk made by Haskell Bro's. Chicago IL. Perhaps one of a kind since I've never seen one exactly like it before and due to the fact, the original owner was a multi-millionaire(please read the history below) during that time period. This is definitely museum worthy! It is very structurally sound and in overall good condition! The primary leather has minor cracking which is to be expected for a trunk of this age. The leather is still very tight and secure. All stitching is tight as well. Which is quite remarkable! Haskell Bro's Makers Chicago is stamped into the leather on the top of the lid and is also visible on the brass locking latches. As you can see in the photos, the handles and a loop are worn off, but worthwhile to restore since all the studs are still there. The stud tacks appear ... moreto be hand hammered and all parts appear to be original. Extremely well made! The inside is lined with material with very few tears overall. Again. Quite remarkable for a Trunk that is well over 100 yrs old! There are no compartments inside. The wood slats are all in real good condition& the wood trim is as well. I'm unsure if it's oak, but I assume so. The bottom is in good condition, although as shown in the photo, there is a probable water stain. Included are leather travel straps. A leather handle, a buckle and two keys. I was told they are the original keys, however, one clearly says Hartmann. I have not tested these keys and am scared to out of fear they may get stuck when turning. I did however check to see if they went into the keyholes and both do easily. Measures 24" high. 20" wide and is 36" long. Please note. The top of the trunk appears in the pictures to be a bit"washed out, due to the excessive natural light. It is not washed out. I can meet you in the Grand Rapids Area on this item for a pickup. As far as the history. This trunk was owned by multimillionaire, William A Coombs of Branch County, Coldwater MI. The beautiful label has the first 4 shops' addresses, dating it to post-Lille(1909) and pre-Champs-Elysees(1915) The two sides are embossed with the owner's letters"McL" ... moreThe calfskin trunks are rare because they were more expensive, and all special orders, meaning they didn't make them and have them hanging around the shop- they were custom made, so the initials were embossed on the leather before it was made, as it would be impossible after, unlike painted initials. The interior is lined with ivory linen, with fittings for one removable tray. Interior stamped with number 168673. There are overall scrapes, and chipping to the top edges, where some leather has worn away. The handle looks to be not original- my guess is the original one wore off and this one fit, so it was strapped on. This was likely a very prized trunk from the early days of the golden age of travel. Perfect for the discerning decorator. Very solid and the lid operates smoothly, and there are no problems with hardware- although I've never fully pressed in the center lock clasp for fear it would stay locked. This trunk is very nice for its age. It has sticker on side that it was made by Taylor Fibre CO. I took lots of pictures please look close and send questions if need. The hey has is missing. The lock does work. Below is information on Taylor fibre company and there trunks. Vulcanized fibre Vulcanized fibre is a laminated plastic composed of only cellulose. The material is a tough. Resilient, hornlike material that is lighter than aluminium, tougher than leather, and stiffer than most thermoplastics. The newer wood-laminating grade of vulcanized fibre is used to strengthen wood laminations used in skis, skateboards, support beams and as a sub-laminate under thin wood veneers. Up for bid is a rare original SMALLER antique trunk/chest. It has leather over wood with metal strapping and sitting on four metal roller/wheels. This chest has the original lock.but…no key. It also has the original paper lining with a Victorian style picture on the interior lid. There is also one area where it looks like someone wrote their initials in pencil. The exterior leather is intricately decorated with artwork depicting geometrical designs. The leather is fastened with numerous studs or tacks. Measurements are 25” x 14” x 13” The Bad: This trunk/chest is completely original so shows evidence of its age. Many“bumps and bruises” through the years as you can see in the many pictures I took. Great Vintage Antique Leather Luggage Handle & Straps, Garters, Trunk
This is a really cool estate find. It's an antique or vintage luggage handle with side leather straps and two long loose straps. The handle part measures 11" long by about 1-1/4" wide. It has nice flower studs holding the handle to the brace and the only marking I can find are embossed flowers on the buckle flags. The leather straps are about 40" long. Then there are two 35" long separate straps that are marked suede top. Genuine Cowhide and CODE Garter something something. Overall very good condition for it's age. All the leather is still pretty strong. I don't know that I'd trust this on actual heavy luggage but for display it's perfect. Really nice vintage example. I will combine on shipping but rates have gone up again. 19c EARLY ANTIQUE BRASS STUDDED LEATHER TRUNK DOME TOP STAGECOACH ERA PRIMITIVE
Offered here this outstanding brass studded leather dome top trunk. Trunk is very sturdy and has stood the test of time. A true survivor. Trunk measures 20 1/4" across 13 1/2' front to back and is 8 1/4" tall to top of dome. As you can see there is some wear and chipping to leather, other than that no damage. Hinges are intact and firm no loosenes at all. All the brass studs are there and it has it's original cloth lining which is quite beautiful in itself and doesn't have any tears. Weighs 15 pounds unpacked. I believe this is circa 1850 to 1860 and I can picture this trunk on top of stagecoach. I wish it could talk and tell me where its been. With something this old you'll have to read the pictures to gather your own information. It's structurally sound inside and out. No rotting! The paper and artwork inside are still fully intact. It has a few dings here and there but would be an absolute simple restoration. All parts are original. There is a barely visible engraving on some of the latches that read" PAT. DEC.23.7" The leather handle strap on the left side is missing and the main latch is bent a little bit. But other than that its fully useable. Untitled Document Purchased at a recent estate sale in NC full of fine antiques. This beautiful ornate trunk was a nice rare find. It has many exquisite and elaborate details. Please see images. It measures 23" tall. 30" wide and 17.5" deep. A collector's item! Looks great for its age though it does have some wear. The only parts I notice missing on the exterior are one of the leather handles and it did not come with a key. There is a name written on the right side. See photos to judge condition. It has its caster wheels. Overall it is very nice and I believe everything is original. The inside seems to be original and in very good shape for the age. For sale is a very rare antique steamer trunk. The trunk is very large and completely covered in brown leather. The leather has some cracks but for 150 years old. The leather is considered in good shape. There are rolling wheels on the bottom and wood slats on the top. The top also had the words"warranted sole leather" imprinted in the leather. This trunk also has possible ties to historic NY(brooklyn) politician JB Wass, who was a consultant to president Ulysses S Grant. If you search the web you can find reports sanctioned by Grant where JB Wass made recommendations on locations of illegal liquor distilleries in Brooklyn) The side of the trunk has personalized label complete with name and address. Louis Vuitton Vintage Leather Steamer Trunk. Trunk is very. Very old with a LOW serial number. Trunk comes with one original tray with working buckles and straps. Trunk has original leather strap wraps completely around trunk, however it has a small section missing from the bottom side of the trunk, not visible unless flipped upside down. Trunk has dog urine stains on the front corners with right corner being the worst of the two, this stain does have odor of urine. Please see pictures for details. Thank you.

Offered for sale is an Antique vintage small trunk covered in leather accented with brass studs. The wood looks very dark and appears to be mahogany. But I'm not sure. The box measures 12.5" long x 7' wide x 4' high. Has one compartment. The outside of the box shows some age appropriate wear, the photos greatly magnify the surface wear, in person the box wears the patina of age gracefully, and presents very well.
