Stunning vintage 1870's steamer trunk. Little different to the normal ones from this era. Quite a topic of conversation with visitors this one. The large impressive chest comes metal upright banding. Horizontal hard wooden banding held with large brass studs. Replacment top clamps added these were missing. Brass lock and Hasp. Shellac with Bri Wax polish finish. Two working side catches. ANTIQUE VTG FLAT TOP STEAMER TRUNK - VICTORIAN PIRATE CHEST RESTORED REFINISHED
Up for sale is this beautiful refinished antique flat top steamer trunk/victorian pirate chest with tray. It measures 28 1/2" long by 18" wide and 11 1/2" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained then sealed with of spar urethane. The interior has been redone with a newer fabric liner at some point in this trunk's history- it has some wear and blemishes but overall it is in very good condition. This trunk is a great decor piece that is functional for storage, hope chest, files, etc. Ask if you have any questions and thank you for looking.

Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk/ Chest This is a Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk/ Chest. My best guess is that this dates to the mid 1800's. I purchased this in the Amish area of Pennsylvania about 30 years ago. It is in the same condition as it was when I purchased it. It is complete with the tray and the top has a compartment with a hinged door. The inside and the tray have been lined with wallpaper- beautifully done. To the best of my knowledge. All of the leather is original. It has the original Brass Lock with a star pattern. The key is included and the trunk does lock. The trunk automically locks when you close the lid. If the key is not present. Large Flat Top Steamer Trunk Nice. Sturdy well made, beautifully restored Steamer Trunk. Newly refinished in a unique antiqued brown. Oak slats have been sanded and stained in a rich red mahogany and coated with polyurethane. My goal with this one is to make it look untouched, but still have a clean usable antique. The interior is newly finished as well. Stripped, sealed and covered in a deep brown felt, no old trunk smell! The handles are original. And still look very nice. It doesn't appear to have ever had wheels on the bottom. Bottom is also refinished. Note: the top has 2 cracks. This is a very nice refinished steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 24 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. There are some common or typical distress marks on this trunk. These include older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. The majority of all trunks have distress marks of some nature like this one. Local pick up only.

You would have to look hard to find a better restored origianl Genny Lind stagecoach trunk. This mid 1800s trunk has had a great restoration including new leather straps and buckles on the outside. Lovely quilted interior. And beatiful restoration of the tooled leather covering. And it does not smell! On the interior it still sports the wood restraining flap that would allow you to fill that side of the trunk and then close it without everything falling out. See the last 2 photos Petite size approximately 20" long. 13.5" wide and 9" deep. A kind and knowledgeable ebayer just added this info. the actual name for one of these is a valise. They used to put that on many of the old labels. Such as trunk, valise, and carpet bag manufacturer. condition. Overall a great looking trunbk but it is about 150+ years old. the hinges have ... morebeen replaced and work perfectly. The lock in not functional but it closes fine. Some of the leather is loose, mostly noted on one side. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side ... morelocking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. Arch Top Steamer Trunk Beautifully restored. 1800's trunk. Top is covered in a crocodile vinyl, new handles made of the same crocodile vinyl. Wood has a deep red mahogany finish, remainder of trunk is finished in deep browns, finished on the bottom also. Interior is covered in a deep brown felt. Nice sturdy piece. Doesn't look like it ever had latches, does have a lock, but no key. I have been told that a locksmith will be able to come up with a key, due to the primitive nature of the lock. It also never had wheels, like some do, and no interior trays. Has enough of a flat surface on top to hold a tray, so it could be used as a coffee or end table. Fancy Refinished Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key & Tray
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Fancy Hardware. Working Lock and Key, and Interior Divided Tray This is a really fancy dome top steamer trunk or hump back chest from the mid to late 1800's. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful camel back chest is made up of pine and poplar base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. As usual. There are plenty of older distress marks on this trunk from many years of usage. These character marks do include older nicks and dings and some stress cracks in various places. Overall, the trunk is sturdy and you can sit on the top of this trunk without any problems in case you want to use it at the foot of the bed while changing your clothing. Here ... moreare the dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. This one definitely has a heck of a lot of fancy metal hardware. None of the metal on this trunk is brass, so we have therefore brush painted the metal parts by hand in black and gold leaf. If you have been waiting for a flashy, fancy dome top, then here it is. There are patent dates on some of the cap metal. It looks like March of 1880. We have shown a close up picture of one of these dates on this trunk. This gorgeous trunk comes with the original working lock. There appears to be a patent date on the key hole cover, although it is difficult to see the year. It does have April abbreviated. We did match up a key that works with this lock. The engagement prong on this lock has been pried open in the past, but it still engages with the upper part ok. The front latches work properly since the springs are intact. Vintage / Antique 1800's STEAMER CHEST TRUNK - Large - Needs restoration
This antique steamer trunk has no identifying information; however. We believe it is from the 1800's. The trunk measures approximately 38" long x 26" high x 22.5" wide when closed. It is a fabric-covered chest with wooden ribbing and what would appear to be additional leather stripping. It also has metal corners and hardware. Our trunk is in need of repair and restoration. The lock is missing and the hinges in the back of the trunk require attention. The top must be held open so it does not fall back. The inside of the trunk shows signs of age and wear. Please look closely at all of our photos and contact us with any questions. We have found no name or identifying information on this item so we do not know who manufactured it. 1800's ANTIQUE STAGECOACH RAILROAD STEAMER TRUNK CHEST
Up for consideration is a nice size Stagecoach antique trunk that has been restored. It has been cleaned well inside and out. The wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish. It os all original exccept for the handles were replaced with new leather ones. The inside was recovered so no musty smells. It does have some minor dings and stress cracks. But this only adds to the characture of this 150 year old trunk. It would be Great for a blanket chest. The measurements are; 30" long x 17" wide x 18" tall. This beautiful hump back chest is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. Here are the dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in it's natural patina or color which is a medium reddish brown. This trunk has a nice unique pair of original front latches that are patent dated and do work. They are"Patented July 1, 73" referring to 1873. These latches have a tab at the bottom that you flip back and forth ... moreto engage or disengage the latch. The lock is original to this trunk. It is brass. So we have semi polished it. Unfortunately, we have not been able to match up a key for this lock. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. Going to the interior of this trunk, it has two nice features which are under the dome. One is the compartment at the left. We have remade the drop door to this compartment and added a nice picture to this door. At the right under the top is the original small compartment which may have held people's smaller belongings. If you look at the close up pictures, you will see the lids being held open to give you an idea of how these work. The picture above the small compartment is original. It portrays a gap in a mountain. We are not sure where of where this area is that is portrayed in the picture or sketch. We have also made a tray that rests at the top where the original one once did. The interior wood and tray have received two coats of polyurethane. Would have been green compartment lined when first made. The richer you were. The more of these chests you had. Each would have a name plate plus the number of the chest. e.g. Earl John Smith 1 of 5 etc. It has large iron swing up type handles to each side. Nice Refinished Antique Arched Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key Here is a nice refinished primitive steamer trunk or travel trunk from the mid to late 1800's. It has the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 1 7 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 15 inches. This one has a very slight dome to the top. The trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are plenty of older stress marks on the wood. These older markings include nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. Some of the wood that makes up this trunk is rough cut and you can still see the saw blade marks on the wood. We have shown a picture of this on the top. The top center slat ... moreboard has been replaced with an old board off of a parts trunk. The two original slat boards on the top have grooves at the outer edge. The replacement one does not. There is a very small piece of the upper slat board missing at the front left side. It's not a big deal. We just thought we should mention it. If you look closely at the top view picture, you can see what we are talking about. This trunk has a working lock. The lower part of the lock is brass and original to this trunk. The upper part that goes into the lock is off of a parts trunk. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock so you can store your belongings away under lock and key if you want to. The metal parts that are not brass have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior. We have finished the interior wood with two coats of polyurethane. There are some typical stress cracks running across the bottom. Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key Here is a lovely refinished steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 13 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This nice trunk consists of poplar base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older distress marks which include nicks and dings mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards. And a couple of hairline stress cracks in the base wood. This one comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The front two latches are original and do work properly since the ... moresprings are intact. The metal parts which make up this trunk are not brass and have there been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing. Someone had drilled small holes in the wood and run rope through these holes to make handles for this trunk. They were rather lousy looking, so we have removed those handles and installed a pair of nice Amish made black leather stitched handles where these rope ones were. These handles are sturdy. Going to the interior, we have removed the paper lining which was worn out looking and finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. A nice trunk maker's style picture of a Victorian woman standing in a boat on a pond has been added to the underside of the top. The exterior bottom has normal wear and we have finished the bottom to make it overall cleaner. This trunk could be used as a low coffee table, tv/stereo stand, and/or a storage chest anywhere in your home where storage space is needed. ARRRR ME HEARTY'S. For your consideration is the ultimate Shabby Chic treasure chest(steamer trunk) Canvas covered which is worn and torn in spots and has a name painted on top. Has a faded K.M.G.W. emblazoned on lid. Merbou ribbed. Which is heavliy faded and has paint on the top rib which says Dunedin. Pine interior great condition which was once lined with white silky fabric. Has a metal base with two well worn wooden protector strips. Metal fittings are mostly there but well worn and quite old. One and a half hinges are there(half of them) and lid is not attatched to box(2 parts) All of the above metioned faults can be fixed easily by a restorer. We are pleased to offer this very nice. BEAUTIFUL antique VICTORIAN steamer trunk. The chest has a domed top and is wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim and leather side handles. This wonderful trunk has an UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL INTERIOR. The interior is lined in decoupage fashion. It has 4 compartments that are each defined with a different decoupaged portrait. They lift up(the top compartment lid lowers) for storage but they are not the"lift out" removable type of replacement trays. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. The trunk has no major dents or damage. There are a few minor dings but they are not very noticeable and they do not distract from the beauty of this chest. The interior is aged and is in untouched and unrestored condition. It is quite lovely with no major rips or tears to the decorative paper lining. The trunk measures 30" wide. My great grandfather, was the owner of this trunk, I don't know where he got it from, but he was very wealthy, and he owned, a huge mansion, up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, witch is very rare, as 99.9% of folks are poor up there, as there is nothing but trees, and water, he had left the estate to my grandfather, about 40 years ago my grandfather never went back to the estate, he let it become basically codemed or he let it go, and it became un-livable, when my grandfather died the estate went to me I didn't know about it so I went and checked out, and I found this trunk hidden between his closet, and a little trap door in what might have been my great grandfathers master bedroom. This trunk measures 15" long 9" wide and 9" tall.The outside of it is in very good condition.The inside will need a little work. A piece of wood that acts as a ledge for the tray is missing and the wood in the back of the trunk has a piece missing.Someone plastered the space and the plaster eventually fell out. Auto epoxy body filler would do the job to fill that void and a 1" x 1" strip of wood wood replace the ledge.
