I would imagine this was done in order to convert it to a lamp? Large Flat Top Steamer Trunk Nice. Sturdy well made, beautifully restored Steamer Trunk. Newly refinished in a unique antiqued brown. Oak slats have been sanded and stained in a rich red mahogany and coated with polyurethane. My goal with this one is to make it look untouched, but still have a clean usable antique. The interior is newly finished as well. Stripped, sealed and covered in a deep brown felt, no old trunk smell! The handles are original. And still look very nice. It doesn't appear to have ever had wheels on the bottom. Bottom is also refinished. Note: the top has 2 cracks. The other cluster is white with some light red mixed in on one side. They were purchased from an estate sale of a 90+ year old woman. They each measure about 11” long. They have wood stems connected by two wires for each grape. The grapes measure about an 1” to 1 3/8” across. They are in good condition with some age wear. Mainly scruff type marks where they have been bunched up together all these years. The wear is typical age wear with a couple places where the wires that hold them together actually causing a few very small rough spots. It measures 12 inches by about 9 and weighs over 10 3/4 pounds of brass. The brass is put together with rivets for strength on all sides. It was designed by a German immigrant, Herman Schmarsow of New York City. The patent date and number are on the bottom of the box. It was patented as a Safety Jewelry Chest. What is amazing about this old strongbox is that it has a built in motion sensor alarm system. Under the brass plate on the bottom is an alarm with an arm that would strike the side of the box with a loud clanging noise if the box was lifted. Moving the alarm pin on the underside. This is a very nice refinished steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 24 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. There are some common or typical distress marks on this trunk. The original owners initials are stamped on the front and have not work. The name of the owner is still on a travel tag attached to a Holland America cruise liner tag. This tall attractive chest offers a tremendous amount of storage possibilities with classic style and elegance. This chest features floral and shell carvings. Original mirror and hardware and a working locks with the key, with the original casters intact on all four feet. This chest measures a total height from the floor to the top of the mirror of 69 1/2 inches. Height from the floor to the top of the chest measures 48 inches, chest measures 38 inches wide and 22 inches deep and weighs approximately 145 lbs. The original beveled mirror measures 27 1/2 inches wide by 17 1/2 inches in height. The original beveled mirror is in fine antique condition with only some slight cloudiness and pivots from to back to adjust viewing ... moreangle. The mirror has a carved shell crest at the top and features elegant floral carved scroll mirror supports. The chest below has 3 smaller drawers over 4 larger ones each with dove-tailed ends. EARLY 1900'S ART DECO CEDAR CHEST/ TRUNK BY TENNESSEE FU RNITURE#3010 This wonderful Cedar Chest is made out of solid wood. Solid Cedar wood, and Walnut Veneer. This classic Chest in original condition, and it has a medium/dark Walnut stain finish color on the outside. See pictures. This Chest has interesting carved accents on the front. And it has wide legs. See pictures. This elegant Cedar Chest was produced by the Tennessee Furniture c ompany. A fine furniture manufacturer, and it was sold by the Grand Rapids Furniture Company of New York. This bea u ti f ul Chest is secure and sturdy with some small scratches here and there proper with its age& w ear and tear. See pictures. There are some minor repairs and touch-ups on the Chest. Antique Hat Steamer trunk shipped 6 HATS and has ladies accessories compartment
It is 24"L x 22"H x 17 1/2" D. The cloth part is gray. This trunk was used in the early 1900's for trips abroad. I can provide you with some of the history of its owner if you are interested. For instance. She was a wealthy single woman and drove an ambulance in WW11. It can hold 6 hats, and has a separate compartment for lady's accessories. The trunk is a nice size for using as a display/storage piece, which is why I removed the 6 hot holders. But I saved them all, and you can see them in the photos. One of them is missing its covering and shows the coarse material it was stuffed with. The one in the front contains its original hat pin, which looks like it could have been a murder weapon! This beautiful French Vellum Trunk. With its incredible character and elegance, sailed on the Queen Elizabeth from New York to an unknown destination. Measuring 35" long, 20 1/2" wide, and 13 1/2" deep, the exterior has the original solid wood banding and polished chrome latches and hardware. Engraved on the lock is the word"Surete" which is french for"security" Its edges are protected with original rawhide trim secured by silver nail heads. There is a wonderful original vintage tag from the Cunard Line and an old travel decal. Circa 1920's. This French Trunk is in good condition with minimal wear from age and use. The interior has 2 working cloth straps and is clean with no issues or musty smell. The trunk has the original leather handles, but one has a split in part of the leather. Rare Goyard Trunk Luggage Vintage Early 1900's
You are looking at a very interesting piece of history. Goyard is one of the oldest and most revered trunk builders in modern history. Dimensions- 27.5” Wide. 22” Tall, 18 ½” Deep Condition- As you see in the photos there are some damages to the exterior. In only a few places is it ripped through(the worst of the damages are shown in 2 photos) All in all. The exterior is in 80-85% condition considering its age. The hardware is in working order, locking tight. The side handle hardware is also functional. Inside there is no major damage. Stains or odors. Provenance- The top of the trunk is monogrammed with the name Thomas Powers. Malles Goyard Steamer Trunk
A wonderful old travel trunk made in Paris by Goyard. This is the perfect size for a coffee table! Measurements are 33 1/2 inches across. 20 1/2 inches deep, 13 3/4 inches deep. The initials on the side are ACK in red lettering. The brass hardware is nicely stamped. There is no inside tray and the back has slight damage. A split line in the pattern design. The wood slats look great and both sides have the Malles Goyard address label. Inside lining has some spotting to the lower left side. Dates to the 1920's era. Swedish Louis XVI chest of drawer circa 1920(Gustavian) made of birch. Mahogany and fruit trees. The top of the chest is made of marble and the hardware of bronze. The chest measures 28"l x 20"d and 33"h. This chest is an exact copy of a chest made 1779 for the King of Sweden Gustav III by the most famous furniture maker of the time Georg Haupt. Thanks for visiting. Vintage/Antique Faux Leopard Lidded box or chest. Claw feet look plastic. Hardware looks like brass. Someone has used a glue gun inside the lid and on the outside of the lid on the back side. Pictured.13" long.7" wide base. Whole chest is 9"tall.Latches work well. Chest is sturdy and the lid opens and closes fine.Side medalions show screw threads like something is missing. Still in all a great conversation piece. Please be sure you know what you are buying.
