1800s Primitive Jewish IMMIGRANT'S CHEST/BLANKET CHEST with 6-POINT STAR VGC

With No Reserve, is a Gorgeous, Primitive Footed Immigrant's Chest/Blanket Chest Featuring a 6-Point Star of David on the Front, and Curved Pieces in Each Corner, From the 1800s, in VERY Good, Antique Condition! This to be a Jewish immigrant's chest and the Star of David is prmminently displayed on the front is remarkable. The chest is very old- the top, front and back are constructed of 2, 12" boards and the two ends also have a 12" board with two thinner ones above and below. The bottom flooring is constructed with 5 boards. The wood is 3/4" thick and is in very good condition with only a few minor cracks that we can find and there are a few paint spatters. There is some warping to the lid- see photos, but this could be eased down with the proper procedure. Also, in order to keep the chest together, ... morethere are later repairs- several"squiggle" fasteners on one end and some brackets on the inside of the lid. This is a truly remarkable chest and imagine what it has seen! It is also quite large. It measures 49" wide x 31" tall(it has 5" legs) x 25" deep. The star is 14" from point to point and the center circle has a diameter of 8" it sticks out from the chest 1" The piece on the lid is 37 1/4" x 9" x 1/2" We have"guestimated" the weight to be close to 90- 95 lbs. and it will have a shipping weight of 100lbs. It may weigh less. It may weigh more- our scale only goes to 75 lbs. The inside of the trunk has never been stained or sealed. But the inner surfaces are in very good condition. I get most of my items at estate auctions and sell them in an"as found" condition. I do no repairs. Alterations and very little cleaning. This is done in the belief that most buyers prefer to receive them as original as possible. Because the items I sell can come from anywhere. I can't guarantee they all come from smoke free environments. DESCRIPTION: The existing color is mustard but there are several colors underneath. Including a coat of blue and another coat of salmon. One of those two is probably the original color of the chest. It is not a dove-tailed chest but it's tight and sound. It does have damage on one of the corners of the lid(see photos) and there is some evidence that some gouges on the lid were filled at one time, and not an expert job. The piece is old enough that the the hand plane marks can be felt on ... morethe interior. The piece probably is no more recent than the mid 1800's and could be older. It is about 47" in length, 16" in width and about 17 1/4" in height. It comes straight from a farm barn near Odessa, Missouri. The metal handles are original but the hinges are not and do not match. Antique primitive or country blanket chest with bracket feet. Simple six-board construction with an unusual half-moon cutout to create the feet at each end. The lift top is held in place by modern steel H-Hinges and a brass finished rest that keeps it from reclosing unexpectedly. Beautiful aged red wash finish. There are large iron nails holding the chest together that look like they are handmade. This piece is in good condition. Especially considering its age. There is a split to the wood near the back of the lid as well as a little bit of separation at the joints. The nails have also come out of the wood a little bit. There are what look like water marks to the finish as well, including splatter marks on one end. Very Primitive 17th Century Pilgrim blanket Chest
This is a very primitive chest that is 45" long. 22" deep, and 24 inches tall. It is beech, with a replaced top(long ago) of pine. It has traces of blue paint in places mostly on the front. An antique miniature chest with wonderful dovetail joints. Footed. It sits on 4 legs. 19 th Century. There is paint on the bottom. Original paint. Lovely warm patina. There are hints of green paint on the outside. This is a beautiful primitive. I measure just over 17 ¼ inches tall by about 26 ¾ inches wide by just under 14 inches deep. A hard to find size. Weighs about 24 pounds. It looks like both hinges have been moved a time or two. There is an inlay patch on the lid near the keyhole. The key hole is quite worn. I’m not sure of the type of wood. The lock is off. There is part of the lock loose on the inside. The box inside may be called a keeper or keepsake or candle box. Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. There are 2 strap hinges which look like they may be original to the chest, but have been relocated on it, probably because they pulled out at some point in their life. I have not done any work on it other than cleaning and adding a canvas strap so the lid won't flip all the way open. Inside is unpainted I have been told by another that this piece is probably the 18 60's to 1900"I want this. But how will I get it to my house? you might say, well, Local Pick Up is always FREE. A piece of wood nailed under the top to stop the crack and yes one of the corner legs is worn down a little but it still sits perfect still and have a lot of(CHARACTER) This is a nice size chest and could be a beautiful coffee table with the great pine wood that you will find in this very old chest. The Pine Wood is all Heart Pine and not 1 knot in all of the wood. You have boards that are 15" wide and all heart pine. The chest is 38" Long. The chest is 23 1/2" High. The chest is 24 1/4" from Front to Rear. You have photos of the square nails that date this chest. The 15" board is joined to a smaller board with a hand planed tongue and groove. You have a round large peg on each side as the top hinge pivot. You have hand carved strong handles on each side that look to be carved from hickory. When we got the chest it was super dry and looks like no kind of finish has ever been applied to the chest. We did a bee's was hand rub finish on the chest to make all of the great grain in the pine boards pop out. This little fellow weighs in at 85 lbs. so

Antique Miniature Blanket Chest Old estate find. This is a nice, well made wood miniature blanket chest box. There is a raised panel on the top, and several layers of decorative moldings. Dark wood finish, I am not sure what the wood is, maybe walnut. Inside the chest has a little side til with a lid that flips up, and there is a lock and key. I am not sure if the lock is original to the piece. The lock does work and the key is included. Very nice antique condition, some wear to the finish as you would expect from years of use. Primitive Blanket Chest, Dry Blue/Green Paint, Handmade, Early 19th C., 6 Boards
This is an early to mid 19th C. blanket chest. Handmade from 6 pine boards and fully dovetailed. It retains a very old blue/green paint, and it measures 36.25"W, 19.75"D, and 18"H. The chest is partially lined with Wilmington, DE area newspaper that dates ~1870. Due to the type of hand tools tools found in the chest, I suspect it was converted to a tool chest in the late 19th to very early 20th C. There are outlines on the bottom where the original round feet were located, and these would be appropriate for a late 18th to early 19th C. chest of this type. Due to the hardware(nails, hinges, etc. I feel confident that the chest was made after the 18th C, and that repairs including new hinges and clasp were made in the later 19th C. I fastened two pine reinforcements to the interior bottom of the chest to stabilize a crack in ... morethat board. The chest is now structurally solid and the hinges and clasp work very well for a chest of this age. The trim of the bottom sides are missing, and there is slight movement in the front trim. Additionally, there are losses to the bottom board, particularly in the right-rear corner. This chest clearly spent many years in a workshop of some type, and there is appropriate wear to nearly every surface. I vacuumed the interior and carefully cleaned the exterior. This chest is a genuine early American primitive object. I acquired this chest in Chadds Ford, PA, and I doubt it has ever left this immediate area. Primitive Hand Made Blanket Chest by Peter Kramer Estate sale find. This is a nice original blanket chest made by custom design furniture maker Peter Kramer. It is stamped on the bottom with his name. The top has a beautiful wood patina that looks like it has years of use. The sides are painted a country blue with floral painted decoration on the front. There are cotter pin hinges and fancy cut out boot jack sides. On one side is a long drawer with hand cut dovetails. It is a newer piece with great early detail. In very nice condition. Antique Primitive Lift Top Two Drawer Country Sheraton Cherry Blanket Chest
This wonderful early 19th century chest exemplifies many forms of old world wood construction. The lid appears to be pinned mortice and tenon. The sides and drawers are hand dovetailed, and the base is mortice and tenon. The drawer bottoms appear to be hand planed and fastened with square nails.The hardware appears to be original, but the latch is missing. Judging by the edges and evidence of past screw holes, the lid appears to have been turned around. You can also see that a latch cut-out is now at the back of the lid. All of the wood is solid and at least 1" thick. This a very fine antique that measures 44 inches long, 20 inches wide, and 31 inches high. Originally found in central Illinois west of Springfield, now available for local pick-up only in Elgin, Illinois.Thanks for looking at my auction.

We purchased this beautiful old blanket chest at an estate sale(Centennial Farm. Jackson County) in Brooklyn, Michigan from the family. The chest is all original just like we bought it. The chest has the original blue paint and is made of all pine wood. The hinges are good as well as the lock(no key)see last picture of lock) The chest is hand planed(see pic.11) with a one board top, front, sides and bottom. The feet are separate pieces from the other boards. The measurements are 43 1/4" wide, 17 1/4" deep and 22 3/4" high(tall) There are 2 names on the boards as you can see in the pictures. One is Sidney McKee? and the other is L.G. Picket. I think I looked at them several times. If anyone can identify the names better please do so. There is a chip on the back of the lid(see pix) and someone has used new screws on the hinges. The grain painting is in good condition with a few missing spots on the lid(see pix) There are no splits in the wood. All original feet and it has lock but no key. It is very sound structurally. MEASUREMENTS: 37 1/2" wide x 27 1/2" tall x 19" deep. The front and side planks are 21 1/2" one plank. Lid is 17 1/2" one plank and so is the back with one added plank. the drawer is cut from the front plank) Item offered is a great antique one plank grain painted blanket chest with one drawer and on turned feet.
