Walnut Maple Antique Vintage Chest Depression Era Drawers & Glove Box Sheraton
1700- 1800's Sheraton chest/ dresser. Two toned wood. Hand carved and just a beautiful piece. I think it may be walnut and maple but could be mahogany too. Exquisite piece with the beautiful designed front and glove box on the top. This is one of the most beautiful pieces I have seen! I don't know the maker because I don't know alot about furniture so can't answer too many questions. If I guessed by looking at other ones listed on ebay it looks like a Sheraton but I don't know how to really tell for sure. But here is a description of Sheraton furniture and it is exactly like this chest with the marketry and different woods and straight and tapered legs. I do know it is very old and has the handmade handcut dovetail drawers. I am guessing the age to be circa 1700-1800's because of the handcut dovetails. There were feet and bottom trim, but they were removed because they were not original to the piece. The drawers pull easily and straight out. There is a ding in the back. I was told by the previous long-time owner this piece was originally in a Doctor's office in Archdale, North Carolina. It is the first of its kind I have seen in my many years of dealing in antiques. American Chippendale Period Walnut Diminutive Chest of Drawers Possibly of Southern origin Late 18th Century Item# 130102RIG18 This is a very interesting early work of American craftsmanship- an American Chippendale Chest of Drawers. Crafted with diminutive proportions during the fourth quarter of the 18th Century. It features a single solid board top attached to the case with pegs along the rim, this projecting lightly over a distinctive reeded molding wrapping around the three sides. Chamfered columns flank either side of three graduated drawers with molded lips, each with replaced brasses and original locks(top drawer lock is period, we believe it to be original, but it might be a replacement) The sides of the case are likewise solid walnut planks, these almost certainly joining to the bottom of the case with horizontal nails hidden by ... morethe molding- naturally, we have not removed the molding to verify this, but this presence of nailed joinery is evident throughout the case coupled with a lack of dovetails on the bottom board. The backboards are undisturbed yellow pine attached with rosehead nails. The drawer joinery is consistent in the top two drawers. Slightly varied at the back of the bottom drawer. This variation would typically suggest an alteration or rebuilding. But in this instance it does appear to have been crafted as such originally: Top drawer- a yellow pine drawer bottom deeply chamfered to rabbet into the poplar drawer sides. The bottom nailed to the poplar back board with a neat row of four nails; front dovetails are nailed from the sides, rear dovetails are nailed from the back. Middle drawer- a poplar drawer bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the yellow pine drawer sides. American Pennsylvania Chippendale Walnut Lowboy over Trifid Feet After the original period works of Philadelphia and Chester County. Pennsylvania Probably crafted during the mid-to-late 19th Century Item# 130102YTP18 This is a simply gorgeous American Pennsylvania Chippendale(Style) Lowboy Antique Chest of Drawers crafted in solid walnut. While every detail is careful executed in the manner of the original works. We believe this piece was actually crafted nearly one-hundred years after the period during the mid-to-late 19th Century. It features a fine two board top, the majority being a single solid plank with only the last few inches at the back being crafted of a second joined board, the grain selected carefully and quite fine. The edge has a carved quarter-round molding of the solid, scalloping at each front corner, projecting generously ... moreover the chest. Three small drawers rest above the deeply serpentine apron, each joined front and back with fine scored dovetails, the bottom deeply chamfered and rabbeting into the sides, period Queen Anne hardware on each drawer face. The apron around the entire table is noteworthy: bold. Flowing, inspiring, the overall flow of the skirt gives incredible lift to the table. It gives robustness to the form, the lines active and dancing, the table looking poised for action. The three-scrolled form of the apron matches the trifid form of the foot, almost matching it's proportional flow. The legs are carved of a single solid piece of walnut from the table top to the foot, the sides of the table tenoned into the top of the leg and pegged symmetrically before curving in bold knees over fine cabriole form. This American Chippendale Lowboy is above reproach. A simply outstanding piece for a serious collector of benchmade works not concerned with the period of craftmanship. While not of the period, it has garnered a very fine patina in the shellac finish, the wood with a light oxidization throughout, the pine and poplar deeply oxidized and with great character in the finish. Offered for bids is an early 19th century Sheraton chest of drawers measuring 42 ½” high& 40” wide. Top measures 40 ½” wide& is 19 ¾“ deep with an appropriate rear over hang. Four graduated drawers with matching flame veneered fronts. I suspect this might be walnut but may also be a brown mahogany. Bought out of Reading PA. All drawers are dovetailed& beaded. The drawers runners are worn but run smoothly. There is some small chipping to the beading. One of the balls of the right front foot has a chip. Retains its locks. Brasses are replacements. Evidence of other pulls. The chest has been refinished at least once. There are some cross grain scratches on the sides from previous stripping. American Federal Period Walnut Chest of Drawers Four graduated drawers flanked by chamfered columns over splayed French feet Pennsylvania. C. 1800-15 Item# 130101PHP13 While the Hepplewhite form employing splayed french feet in case pieces is well developed. Even common, this chest exudes a certain strength that is uncommon in Federal period works of the Hepplewhite style. The solid walnut and solid poplar construction gives it inordinate weight, but the intense lift of the feet, raising the apron sharply in the corners, eliminates the heaviness of the look. The projecting top is crafted of two boards, the last 3/4" along the front actually a continuation of the front of the chest up through the top, a somewhat unusual and perhaps unique construction method. Surrounding this is a dropped and applied molding over four graduated drawers. ... moreThese with molded lips of the solid, each framed with hand dovetailed poplar boards with a deeply chamfered poplar bottom sliding into rabbets in the frame and tacked at the back with square nails. The dovetailing method is somewhat original, using very large dovetails at the front, smaller dovetails at the back, the lowest back dovetail squared on it's lower edge to receive the drawer bottom in the rabbet cut. Flanking these drawers are chamfered columns on either side. Both sides of the case are single solid planks of walnut. Incredibly large boards with wonderful grain appearance. Five vertical poplar boards line the back of the case, these entirely undisturbed and nailed in neat rows, the boards on the far left and right sides continuing all the way to the ground. As a result of this construction method, the feet are in simply outstanding stable condition, despite the incredible weight being supported. The feet are entirely original, the interior blocking of each a complex and almost puzzle-like formation. Ogee Bracket Feet(replacements) Dovetailed Case Top and bottom. This Chest of Drawers was always a low chest. The sideboards come all the way through the case to the form the outline for the feet, typical of Pennsylvania Furniture made around 1789-1790's. This chest has been restored. No significant reworkings have happened aside form replacing the feet. there are however several drawer patches, and 2 lock holes slugged up. The hardware are most likely replacements. The company was known for its"royalty designs" and finest craftsmanship using fancy woods and unique veneers to showcase stunning designs. This piece is part of a whole bedroom set but being offered also as an individual piece. Made of walnut burl wood which was the most decorative veneer used in the period and much sought after and considered a"prized possession" It also features a masterful intricate marquetry design. Additionally it shows carved details. Overall largest measurements are approximately 56" wide x 22" deep x 37" high The style is French Rococo in the fashion of the 18th century ... moreFrench royal court and Louis XV and it dates between 1915 and 1925. The small drawer on the right is compartmentalized and features a hiding compartment.
