The hand wrought ironwork is beautifully done and in good condition for its age with only a small piece missing from the back bottom corner as shown in the photographs. It retains its original lock, hinges and a key that is likely original and all are in good working order. The lock will only remain in the unlocked position when the key is inserted and turned to the horizontal position. If the key is removed, the lock will automatically lock when the lid is closed. There is a beautifully wrought twisted iron bail style handle on the top for carrying and there is an iron ring attached near the base at each side presumably for tying the box in place when travelling. Please view all of the photographs- the condition is superb for its age however there are some cracks to the wood from age and normal wear and tear appropriate for a chest that is approximately 500 years old. The decorative"lid" sections of the hinges are of a thinner guage iron to that of the heavier back struts, but they are fully intact& the hinges move freely. please see pics) Fantastic shape& a good rustic look, ideal for use with period furniture. Panelled to front back and sides, with the front panels having linen fold carved decoration. This is appro. 7 1/4" x 9" x 5" diameter vintage Tea/Coffee pot plus appro. also 4.5" x 3.25" x 2.25" tall creamer. And 5" x 3.25" x 2.25" tall sugar bowl. It has a crest on bottom of pot that reads SILVER ON COPPER. The crest has the letters"M" or"W" and"S" in each corner. Last year. April-June, I made a lot of eBayers very happy! I held a big sale of antique paintings and other items(over 100! from a large London mansion. Enthusiastic buyers won LOTS of wonderful family heirlooms for very little(see my 100% feedback! and came to pick them up from the house(a few minutes walk from London's Oxford Circus) I'd intended to move out and spent the rest of the year abroad. Storage Chest/Trunk/Box"A grand old chest! ... moreFor years this has been a magical dressing up box! It's full of lots of antique costumes and accessories. Younger relations head straight for it when they visit! But it would be good as a blanket box or general storage. It's very tall and has a huge amount of space. It looks a bit more impressive than many similar items. Having some grand trimmings, almost armorial. The carvings on the front are very imposing and clearly of some age. This type of carving often surrounded a coat of arms, which may have been removed in years gone by. It also has some lovely brass lion's feet(which really need shining up…they'll look really good when polished! We believe the front of the chest is much old than the rest. It's not uncommon to have wooden furniture rebuilt over the years. Often when they suffer from woodworm or general wear. One of the four rosettes on the front isn't there(I've only just noticed this, after all these years! It's dark wood, so you don't really notice. Beautifully Carved Antique English Oak Coffer Blanket Box Chest
Beautifully Carved Antique English Oak Coffer Three front raised panels are elegantly carved with fine acanthus leaf motif. The 7/8" solid top is made with breadboard ends. The 1" thick sides are panelled and beaded. The back consists of two reverse-raised panels in a 1" thick frame. The skirted bottom conceals a set of four small metal casters. The inside is all open. This piece shows beautiful rich dark brown patina throughout. This coffer took some considerable skill to build and. Although it is an antique with the usual slight bumps, it's excellent condition reflects the care with which this piece was crafted and treated through the years. The hinges and locking mechanism(no key) are solid brass. The top shows a couple of age cracks that are normal for a piece of this vintage. 17th/18th Century Oak Coffer with Inlaid Top. Rare. About as Rustic as Possible!
Description Antique Oak Coffer. Two dates here, the lower section is very early probably about c1670, the lid is a bit later, probably c1720. This is such an amazing piece. It's the most rustic thing I have ever owned, the timbers look ancient, they are grizzled and worn, rough cut in places(the back looks like it was roughly hacked off a tree) and just looks wonderful, if only it cold talk, it must have seen so much interesting history in it's 340 odd years! The top is a little later. And very unusually has satinwood and ebony triangular inlays, this is very very rare, these things are always just plain oak or some light carving(like this one has on the front) but very rarely do they have inlays. The inlays are fairly provincial looking and definately hand applied and cut, they again are just great to behold! If you love it. Old Iron Lock & Key for Antique Pine/Oak Blanket Box/Chest/Trunk/Coffer
Here for sale is an old iron lock with its original working key suitable to use on an old pine blanket box or trunk. It measures 3 1/2 inches wide. 2 1/2 inches high and 3/4 inch depth. The measurement from the top face to the centre of the key is 1 1/4 inch. The key measures 2 5/8 inches long. The main body of the lock housing the workings is 7/16 inch thick. The top face is 3/4 inch. Please note. The receiver isn't the original to the lock. It fits fine but when locked it doesn't lock tight. I have taked a picture of it upside down to show the small gap when locked.

A strong blacksmith made pair of hinges, with visible signs of manufacture where beaten& formed, with a wonderful chamfer perimeter edge& a good thickness to the metal. Cortege(Debussy) played by Mathilde Coffer All rolls have been played on our player piano- however. We didn't make notes and there are so many, that they are in varying degrees of condition. They are all playable, but you will find some minor edge frays, possible leader mends and a few edge mends in the batch. Boxes are in good to very poor condition- there are even a few sub boxes in the batch. But mostly original. A few of the rolls have NO boxes, but we'll try to point that out when we run across one. Late 17th- Early 18th Century Elm Coffer With Original Candle Box& Hinges etc. This is a nice period. C1690 to 1710, elm coffer with deed box and candle box integral with the deed box side partition and coffer lid. All in all a very nice item and just the thing for extra storage or even as a seat in an inglenook fireplace or even under a bowfront window. There is some marking and wear commensurate with the age of the coffer which is 300 + years old, also evident are signs of, now long dead and gone, woodworm which all add to the character of the piece. Clearly seen are the hand made rose head nails used to fasten the planks to each other and the hand wrought strap hinges which help with closing the top. Each hinge& nail a testiment to the blacksmiths craft who fashioned the hinges and nails. The end planks are shaped to form the legs ... moreon which this delightful piece stands and the lid has a simple moulding along the edge. For size it is 43 inches X 15 inches X 18 inches or in metric 109cms x 38cms x 46cms. Only being sold as we have downsized and have another earlier and larger coffer that is being kept. Enormous chest. Oak, heavy dark original patina, hand forged hardware, evidence of worm holes and early wood bore, none existing now) with thick solid planks of oak used in construction. Chest measures 77x281/2 x40 inches and weighs upwards of 400 pounds. Provenance: A European castle, possibly Germany. This piece came to the U.S. in the 1950's with Colonel William Shlitz, USA, and we have purchased from estate. Non smoking estate but there is evidence of purple paint to be removed on one edge(per the estate, the work of a small child) Most wood is upwards of 1 1/2 inches thick. Evidence of hand hewning on back, as well as planing. Chest is solid, and tightly together and very well kept and well built. This armoire features two drawers on the top and two removable opening doors cabinet with open carved works on it. Inside the cabinet there is one shelf to let you store your staff on it. Both sides and back are finished. This cabinet was made at about 1850- 1900 using solid elm wood with dark mahogany finished. It is very heavy and sturdy. Item Photos, Hello and welcome to the auction and thank you for viewing.I believe that this is for a Chinese lock for a camphor wood chest or similar large chest.I think that it is made from brass and it measures about 7.1m. by almost 2cm. by 2.9cm. in height.To the front is a Chinese character and there are various illustrations to the sides and the bottom including a fish and a bird.It is fairly chunky and weighs about 110 grams unpacked.One end is designed to take a key with the keyhole in the shape of a Chinese character.This item I believe would have come back with our family from Hong Kong when we returned home in I estimate the early 1960's after my dad was stationed in Hong Kong.I would think that it was purchased in Hong Kong but my parents had spent time in Singapore in earlier years.Two camphor wood chests also came back with ... moreus.It could have been secondhand at the time. 17th century Spanish Colonial Tooled Leather Coffer Trunk Chest
This stunning 17th century tooled leather Spanish Colonial coffer retains its original hardware and patterned linen lining. The mark of an old cattle brand is clearly visible in the leather on the back of the trunk. it would be great to find a way to trace this brand to the hacienda from which the herd came. The carved claw feet belong to the trunk but are two separate pieces, and serve to keep the trunk up off the floor. While very old, they may have been made for the chest sometime after its completion. Many of the hand forged nails remain but some are missing. The leather is missing in the upper right front corner of the trunk. As can be seen in the first photo, above. Piece is very sturdy and condition overall is excellent. No odors. Extremely rare antique very old oak or elm wooden crate. Coffer, cloth box estimated to be from the late 17th or early 18th Century with original handmade lock and key. Lock works and crate can be locked. This wooden coffer came from an old Monastry and according to a local antiques expert. Lock and wooden box are original late 17th early 18th Century. The very basic but working lock on it's own is a true piece of craft manship. Lock is hand made. Probably by a local lock smith and original, as is the key to go with it.
