It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. Camel back, Dome Top, Hump back Antique Storage Trunk
Beautifully shaped camel back antique trunk. As far as I can tell this trunk appears to be from the late 1800's or early 1900's. The hardware is gorgeous! The shape of the trunk is great! At first glance. It looks like a gold painted textured tin exterior with black hardware. Upon closer examination, it looks like the trunk is wood covered with textured tin. A magnet will attach to all the tin and all the hardware. The arch accents and straight accents on the sides appear to be wood(the magnet does not stick but slides to the metal areas) The bottom has seen better days. The tin shows wear at the corner and at the bottom edges of the sides. I tried to show this in the pictures. The bottom has been covered with felt. There is no tin used on the bottom-it appears to be antique wood covered by felt. The interior has been lined with a ... morecream colored polyester lining fabric. The lining was applied with upholstery tacks and a glue gun. Along the two short side there is a ridge of wood inside the trunk which probably held a tray at one time. In one corner. I was able to pull back the fabric and take a photograph of what looks like the original lining paper. All the nails in the top and sides look like they are original except 3 philips head screws that are used in one of the back hinges. I was trying to figure out why there were air holes on the sides when I realized that the handles are missing. The beauty of the shape is the main attraction. Measures 28" wide x 17" deep x 18" tall that peaks to 20" Very pretty piece. Looks like with a little work the original splendor of this piece would be a delight to own. It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side ... morelocking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. I don't know for sure what this one was called for certainty I just know that it more closely relates to the old"Barrel Stave" luggage trunks. Although this piece is quite old and Non-Restored it is still quite charming to behold. The inside is quite lovely. The trunk could be easily restored to it's former glory. From information I have gathered I believe it is a camel back trunk from the 1870s or 1880s. Several pieces of the hardware on the trunk have"Patent mar 16" on them. Dimensions: Length 32" 18" wide, 21" tall, 14" deep The trunk is made of metal and wood. The leather handle/strap on the left side of the trunk has been broken off and is MIA. The latch on the front is intact. But it won't latch and the key is also MIA, presumably with the leather handle. Maybe they are lying on a beach somewhere together. Made around 1880, the metal clovers? on top read(pat'd Mar 16, 1880) it is trimmed with pressed metal panels made to look like alligator skin. The trunk is solid, the bottom wheels are all in good working condition, the lid is firmly attached and it has it's inside drawer. It has wear to the surface paint, the leather side straps are missing/damaged, it looks like the front center latch was re-attached years ago with a small metal plate added, and there is a small hole in the metal along the front right edge(tried to show in picture) There maybe other small issues I missed or forgot to mention but overall this is a very nice decorative trunk that will display well. The trunk has very ornate tin floral sheeting across the top and the outside panels of the trunk. This trunk is in good condition. With wear co nsistant with age. Trunk does not lock. A n d key is not included. The leather s trap handles have deteriorated with age and have torn and frayed. But are still attached. The inside of the trunk is papered with a patterned paper and has a colorful border as well as a large sticker. They were self made professional people who knew the value of things and how to take care of them. Their smoke free home was very nice and well kept with no pets. This old trunk is well preserved for it's age. It is sturdy and mostly intact with quite a bit of ornate detailing on the flat metal and reinforcing overlays. The hinges and buckles are also in working condition and the inserted original storage tray is also still with it and in good condition which seems to be missing with most of the kinds of trunks. The only thing missing is the leather carrying handles which have worn away with age over the years. Also we did not mess with the locking mechanism because there is no key. Antique 1877 Camel Back Embossed Tin Trunk
I get the date 1877 from almost every latch and hinge which are dated Oct 23. 1877. Also, the locking mechanism is a"Star Lock Co. and dated 1877 as well. This is a previously owned trunk. And I do not have the history on it. I do not know the manufacturer. Condition is good, with age and wear obvious. Particulars include, but may not be limited to: No key. Slats are repainted. Pink, interior card board compartments have loose lids, one lid is missing, one wooden divider is missing. One leather handle is gone, the other has been removed and each handle is now a piece of painted chain. Easy fix) obvious dents in the tin, some leather hinges on the interior tray are broken or missing. I first noticed a"basement" smell to the wood, but it has since gone away, Some water damage to one side of bottom of trunk. My assessment. Condition ... morefor a trunk well over 125 years old is very good. It has obviously received at some point a kind of"home made" restoration. The bet news is. Almost everything is present minus one lid for the interior tray, and the key of course. I would recommend a box of baking soda to take what lat little bit of odor away that may be present. Otherwise, it is either a fairly easy restoration, or good enough to go if one doesn't mind it as is. I measure the trunk to be 29" by 19" by 17" Weight is around 32 lbs. Antique White 1800's Camel Back Steamer Trunk
I picked this at an auction and as I carried it to the truck a gentleman who appeared in his mid 70s stopped. He wanted me to know that his great grandfather immigrated from Europe in the 1800s and used this trunk to carry his items on the ship that brought him over. I love the stories and was glad that he stopped me. It is painted white and has been for a long time. It is solid. Sound and in great shape. Even the leather handles, which typically rot off, are BOTH in place. The inside, as you can see from the photos is beautiful complete with a drawing of a young woman. Restore it and you will have an incredible trunk or leave it as it and enjoy the beauty and age of this wonderful trunk.

Desirable small size"Camel" Barrel Top Trunk. Fully Restored. Unknown Maker. Very similar to a 1909 trunk catalog reference, available from current owner. The interior is lined with white acid free paper and wheat paste was used as the adhesive. This is how it would have originally been done in circa 1900. The insert is original and recovered in white paper. The bonnet or hat compartment and parasol compartment lids are fiberboard as original. The lock does not work and key is missing. Here is a rare find. this is the tray from an antique trunk. The measurements are approx. 34 5/8" in l e ngth. 19 9/16" width at the bottom. 19" width at the top and approx.4 5/8" deep. As you can see in the photo's the top is warped, and one of the leather straps is broken. There are some water stains as well. Selling as is, as you see it. This is a great beginning for restoration. This dome top camel back steamer trunk circa 1800s has been beautifully restored outside. The interior remains as original. For 40 years at least this trunk has stored extra items in a guest bedroom. The great storage without smells or moisture will be missed. The approximate dimensions are: 30” length. 17” width, 24” height. This trunk has all the original hardware except that one latch is missing the bail. The lock fastens but needs a key. The outside is all original except for the black paint has been redone and the wood and metal cleaned and preserved. The inside tray is missing. This trunk offers great storage and charm.

18 th to 19 th CENTURY ANTIQUE EUROPEAN CAMEL BACK TRUNK Up for sale is my 18 th to 19 th Century Antique European Camel Back Trunk that came from the Estate of Lydia Gordon in Santa Cruz. CA(my sister-in-law) The history as I know it is Lydia is from the Netherlands and in 1971 came to America with my brother and brought the Camel Back Trunk with her. I estimate the age to be between the late 18 th century and the 19 th century. Square nails were used to construct this trunk this type of nail was used during this time; they stopped using square nails at the turn of the 20 th century. I had an appraiser look at this trunk and her estimate was around one million in excellent condition. However this trunk is in good condition with the exception of some rough areas such as the wooden wheels. Wooden axel and the trunks stand. Nice Vintage Sample Trunk Made By H.W. ountree& Bros. Richmond. VA This is a wonderful antique sample trunk in good condition for its age. The trunk measures almost 9” high. 12” long and 8” wide. It has a lift out tray that features a compartment with a domed lid. The bottom of the tray is made of canvas and is coming loose. It was repaired at some point but needs more work. There is a vintage sticker inside the lid that describes the trunk and has the makers’ name. The lid does not have hinges. I’m not sure if it ever had them. The handles on the side are missing. Selling is the sweetest antique doll trunk with a domed lid. The trunk measures 16" long. 9 3/4" wide and 12" tall to the dome top. The trunk is made of wood with wood ribs on the outside of the trunk. The trunk is covered with a textured silver tin that is showing some darkening with age. There are metal straps with a black finish on the edges of the trunk and they are held in with small rivets. There are 2 clasps that hold the lid down that look like cast iron. The clasps are marked"Pat. Jul 9 72" The center clasp is brass, although it is old this looks like it was replaced at some time in the past. The bottom of the trunk has 3 small legs or rollers in the corners, one is missing. Inside the trunk there is an original label a paper picture of a girl. The tray from the inside is missing. IT WAS IN REALLY BAD CONDITION, AND I WANTED TO USED IT TO STORE CLOTHES& BLANKETS IN IT, SO I CLEANED IT UP, PAINTED IT, REPLACED THE LID STAY. This little steamer trunk is wood and metal and was likely for a child who wanted one just like his/her parents had. The finish is military army green. The top is the wonderful curved camel-back style. It is metal finished on all edges and affixed with what I believe are brass tacks. And there is metal strapping all around, as well. It appears that there was a shelf inside at one time, but it is no longer present. The hinges work fine. There is a ... morepicture inside the lid of a boy and girl on a wharf. The boy is wearing a striped middy blouse and what appears to be knickers although from his sitting position it is hard to be certain. There is wear to the finish and light stains inside. There is a strip of fabric attached inside which has a name woven in it, likely the maker's name, but I cannot make out what it says(see last picture) On the outside, one side is stenciled Wash, D.C. and the other side is stenciled A.D.L. Antique Camel Back Victorian Era Steamer Trunk Double Lock ca. 1871 Original NR!
You're looking at a Victorian era camel/hump/domed/barrel back steamer trunk wrapped in tin ca.1871. This trunk is showing the overall wear you'd expect to see on something over a century old but I'd say this is in fantastic shape for its age. I'll describe the flaws as best I can but please use the photos provided to make your own assessment. It has a double key lock which works but is a bit tricky and. The key is present but cannot be removed from the lock(I didn't wanna pull too hard) The leather handles have torn off over the years and one wheel on the bottom is missing along with one of the decorative metal pieces on the lid. The original lidded insert(which rarely survives) is completely intact however. There is a tear in the left lid(see photos) Most importantly. It appears that no one has tried to paint, paper ... moreor modernize this in any way. The hardware hasn't been painted, the interior still has what appears to be the original paper lining(no wall paper) and the nails all appear to be original. Dimensions are: 32" width. 18" depth, approx. 26" height at the peak of the domed lid. In my humble opinion. This trunk could be displayed as-is with all of its original character or would be an excellent candidate for restoration! eBay limits the photos to 12 but if you'd like more. HUGE Antique Dome Top Camel Back Steamer Trunk --- 40"W x 32”H x 22”D
This is simply a HUGE steamer trunk. One of the largest domed trunks I have come across. It is 40" wide. 32" high and 22" deep. It is a very sturdy and solid trunk. The center lock was cut off of it, however the side latches work properly. It is incredibly ornate and has immense potential. The insert inside the lid works but is coming loose and there is no drawer insert. Trunk still has a sticker on the bottom from the American Railway Company from the 1920's era. Large Antique Dome Top Camel Back Steamer Trunk Tin & Wood --- 34” x 26” x 19”
This antique dome top trunk is in marvelous condition for its age. There is no major damage to this trunk. Just normal wear and tear that you would expect in an item this old. This beauty has tons of character! The beautifully curved dome top, with 4 strips of curved 2-inch wood…is a sight to behold. Just on the top of this trunk are 14 ornately etched plates of metal hardware. All the tin on the chest is embosed with a raised floral pattern. It is truly beautiful. The lock comes without a key and I am not sure if it works. Both latches operate properly. Both leather side handles are missing. They can easily be replaced but I want to leave the trunk 100% original. The trunk is made from tin, metal, and wood. There is a total of seventeen 2” wood strips of varying lengths found on all sides of the trunk. The wood strips look like oak to me…they’re ... morein excellent condition. The trunk measures about 34" long across the bottom x 19” wide at the ends x 26” tall to the center of the dome, which is the highest point. The insert inside the trunk is fully functional and just needs a new coat of lacquer. The trunk was found with many others in the basement of an old building in lower Manhattan. The building manager said they were stored there years ago from unclaimed steamer trunks owned by immigrants who came over from Europe to Ellis Island. Please ask any questions. Antique Wooden Tin Covered Hump Camel Back Trunk, Great Shape!
This is a beautiful antique steamer trunk. It is covered in very ornate stamped tin on all sides(and bottom) with wooden accents. It measures 30" wide x 17" deep x 23" high. Very little damage. Especially considering age. The leather straps are mostly gone, the two side latches are not functional, and one roller us missing from the bottom. Just a great show piece.
