It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. Antique Steamer Trunk, 7 dome oak wood slats- replacement parts
These are 7 dome top trunk slats removed from an old trunk. This is one of those trunks I saved for my garden. These are probably before 1890 because there are pairs of nail holes. In the mid 1890s there was a change to only 1 nail where the 2 had been before to save money. These slats have both double nail holes and single nail holes but they came from the same trunk top. These need to be cleaned and refinished. See photos for condition. I think I labeled the picture correctly. Steamer Trunk Dome Top Pirates Chest. I'm not sure if this is pre or post 1899 but it is a solid trunk. There are bulit in rollers on the bottom. The trunk is not rotted. The interior was covered in contact paper. I pulled it off exposing the original paper or what's left of it. The inside of the dome has reside from the contact paper. The leather straps are broken. There isn't a key. Trunk has a wonderful patina showcasing its age. Own a Piece of American History Today! This trunk is over 100 years old! ANTIQUE METAL BARREL STAVE DOME TOP TRUNK WITH WOOD SLATS(591.100) With Measurements: 30.5"w x 17 3/4"d x 23"h Dome Top Trunks 1870-1920 Built in many sizes and styles. They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. over ... morethe top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. Often early examples of this style have a graceful. Well proportioned look and the later examples into the 1870's are quite simply well made. This trunk is in good condition. Obviously it will show wear marks from age as it is over 100 years old. No rotted metal or holes present. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. They represent a much simpler time in this country. It's that emotional connection that makes them so appealing to collectors, and will only increase the value of the piece in time. Untitled Document Purchased at a recent estate sale in NC full of fine antiques. This beautiful ornate trunk was a nice rare find. It has many exquisite and elaborate details. Please see images. It measures 23" tall. 30" wide and 17.5" deep. A collector's item! Looks great for its age though it does have some wear. It has the original finish and great old hardware lock. Purchased at an antique auction it dates to the mid to late 1800's. The inside of the trunk is lined with layers of antique newspapers dating to 1865. Great old advertising. The newspapers are not in the best of condition and are hanging in some areas and falling apart. I have left them as they were found because it does help verify the age of the trunk. Most people will want to remove the paper and clean the trunk. You may be able to save some of the newspaper and advertising. The trunk measures about 11 inches high. It is 11 inches deep(front ... moreto back) and 21 inches side to side. It is in good antique condition. There are imperfections as would be expected. Marks in the wood here and there and there is a slight separation of the boards on one end as shown in the photos. Please refer to photo#5. The lid of the trunk has a separation in the boards; please refer to photos 7& 8. An unusual lock which I am not familiar with. It has a small lever which slides over the opening for the key and this does stick a little; it should loosen up nicely with a little care. I do not think all of the lock is there; it appears there should be another piece on the lid. As I said I am unfamiliar so I am not sure; just using my best guess in regards to the lock. Please refer to photo# 6. There is no key. Wonderful old trunk. It looks great displayed and would be a nice addition to any collection. Antique Dome Top Hump Back Pressed Tin & Wood Slats Steamer Trunk Herringbone
A recent estate sale purchase. An antique 1870's dome top/ hump back steamer trunk covered with pressed tin in a herringbone/ basketweave pattern. The wide tin mixed in on the edges has a pattern of tiny diamonds with dots in the center. The lid has curved hardwood slats and lots of heavy tacks holding all of the metal in place, the tacks are most likely brass plated. The previous owner painted it a shade of dark rust/ reddish brown so you will probably want to refinish it- it looks as if it could be sanded down to the bare metal and wood because the paint isn't very thick.We believe the metal handles seen in the photos are not original to the trunk, they were probably replaced with the black metal handles whenever it was painted. The handles should be leather and if you'd like to replace them(as well as the metal brackets that ... morehold them) you can find them reasonably priced at any trunk restoration site on-line(they even sell them here on Ebay) The trunk measures approximately 31" long X 20" wide X 24" high at its highest point near the center. The tray for the inside of the trunk is missing. The hardwood slats and all of the metal on the trunk look to be in good condition. The bottom of the trunk is covered with black metal and 3 hardwood slats that have done a great job of protecting the trunk over the past 100+ years. The key is missing and we're not 100% positive that the lock is functional so it will arrive open. There are two(2) hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there are two small metal lever-action clasps that keep it closed tightly in front. These are a tight fit and probably need lubrication but you can still get them to open and close. These clasps are stamped what appears to us to be' PAT MAY 1875' The inside of the trunk is clean and dry and it retains its original paper lining- the lid has just a hint of the original chromolithograph and the border. This is a fabulous Antique 1800's Salesman's Sample Wooden Trunk with an alligator embossed gold painted front and brown painted dome top. The sides and back are floral embossed and the sides are green while the back is white. It has black painted metal strips. Hinges, and metal lock( Lock does not lock) There are wooden strips on the top, front, and sides. The bottom is plain wood. The interior is paper lined. It measures 16" wide and 9" tall in the front and back while the sides due to the dome, are 10.5" tall in the center and 9" wide. The handles on the sides have been broken off. It is in really great condition for being over 100 years old( hope I look so good! It has age and desirable patina! Shipping includes insurance.

A Ladycomet Refinished Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key and Tray
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock With Key and Interior Tray Here is a lovely refinished dome top or arch top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 24 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 14 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. We removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. The trunk appears t be made up of poplar base wood which are rough cut boards. These boards show the saw blade marks from the saw mill since they were not planed down to a smooth texture. The outer slat boards appear to be oak or ash. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve the wood. This one was missing the lock when we ... morereceived it and we have given it an older replacement lock which is signed. It says, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. This replacement lock comes with the proper key and does work correctly. A lot of doll collectors and collectors of coins and Civil War items have purchased this smaller sized trunk to store their collectible items inside. If you have a teddy bear or doll collection, you can display those items in and on the trunk with the lid in the open position. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. We do obtain all of our leather products for these trunks from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. The front latches are original and do work properly and they have been remounted with screws. There has been a couple of areas of metal patchwork done on this trunk. One area is at the top left side of the lid. A piece of metal was missing and we have put in a piece to cover this area. A close up picture of this area has been shown. Antique Small Dome Top Hump Back Steamer Trunk w/ Tray Embossed Tin& Wood Description: Up for sale is this great old small sized Dome top or Hump Back trunk! This trunk measures 24 1/4" x 14 x about 17" tall. As you can see from the photos on the left this trunk has been painted sometime in its past. The bottom tin is black in color with four embedded wheels near the corners. This leads us to believe that the original color of the tin on this trunk was black. You can see in the closeup that this trunk is covered with an embossed floral patterned tin covering held in place with wood straps with very ornate angle pieces at the corners. This trunk has 2 latches and one hasp type lock. Unfortunately the key for this lock is long gone. The hasps both close snugly but appear to be a little fragile. At one time there were leather handles ... moreon either side of this great old trunk. One side still has a little of the handle left. But the other sides handle is gone. The inside of the trunk is natural wood without any covering. The tray still feels pretty solid. There is one knot hole in a side as shown in the photo and most of the original paper covering is still in place. Dome Top Trunk Civil War Decoupage. I picked this up at a local auction and know nothing about it. Top is cracked. Has new hinges and handles were added. It has newspaper glued on the inside with Battle of Gettysburg article and other war related newspaper articles. It looks like old pine. Measures 18" wide 9" deep and is 6 1/2" tall. Antique Dome Top Wooden Steamer Trunk- 1800s- Local Pick Up You are looking at a dome top wooden steamer trunk from the 1800s. This trunk has definitely been used. And it is in its original condition. It comes with 4 original(3 currently installed) casters on the bottom. I have included a pic of the bottom showing all 4 casters. As you can see by the pic, the top right caster is detached due to wood loss. The term"original condition" also includes the following: One of the side carrying straps is missing. The lower section of the left hinge for the lid has become detached(see pic) The wood slat second in from the right has suffered a split at the peak of the dome(see pic) There is no key. For sale is this BEAUTIFUL antique dome steamer trunk. It comes with the ORIGINAL key(very rare) The dimensions are: Width: 30" Depth: 19" Height: 24" If you live close(LI/NYC) and are unable to pick it up or do not want to pay for shipping. The trunk has wheels and an additional compartment inside(see pictures) There is a place along the top of the inside where the liner seems to be coming off(original liner) It also has both original handles. Hello, Today I am offering an antique child's dome top trunk. I was told it is circa 1880s. It is a beautiful combination of black and silver. With a lovely star pattern. The inside is covered with antique wallpaper. It comes with the original tray. It is 14 inches long, almost 8 inches wide, and 8 3/4 inches at the tallest point. This trunk is super tiny and can fit into almost any space! Unfortunately. Due to the age of this piece, it does have a few flaws. It has dings, dents, and scratches. There is a small gap on the top between the tin and the wood, it is featured in the 7th photo. Two of the little slat clamps are broken on the end, and one is bent. One of the brackets on the inside isn't level and causes the tray to be a bit tilted. Also, I do not have the key. Buy it now or make me an offer! If you have any questions. Gorgeous Extra Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Double Latch Style Lock. Working Key, Interior Compartment Area, and an Interior Tray Here is a rare find since this trunk is exceptionally loaded with fancy hardware and it comes with the beautiful double latch lock. This beautiful dome top should date back to the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. This wonderful trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome top is made of early ply. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it look ... morenice. There are some typical older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. These distress marks are quite common and typical on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. The base wood has a tannish brown color while the outer slat boards have a more medium or walnut brown color. This trunk maker must have spent who knows how many hours applying all of the fancy metal hardware to this trunk. We counted how many metal hardware parts are on this trunk which include the lock, latches, and wheels. It came up to over 90 pieces. That is just incredible. We have not had a trunk this fancy in quite a long time. We wish we could find fancy trunks like this more often, but they are hard to come by. Some of the fancy metal rosettes that are on the top slat boards have been pressed flat over the years of being shipped on railroads and having other trunks and items stacked on top of them. They are all there, just we wanted to say that some are flat and some are still domed. It's not a big deal, we just thought we should mention it so there won't be any surprises. Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock and key and full Interior My husband and I have refinished over 170 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is absolutely beautiful very nice decorative refinished dome top hump back steamer trunk from the late 1800's. The particular d imensions for this are 28" length. 16 1/2" width and 18 1/2" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. This would also make a wonderful Christmas gift for you or someone that you cherish. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began ... moreby taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and on the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We also found on the metal a patented date of March 16. 1872. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we installed a new lock with 2 working keys. The lid has the original picture and original label. The label has written on in"Baer's Evansville Trunk Factory" Evansville. Photos tell the whole story. Selling"as-is" and"where-is" Buyer to pay all S/H/Insurance. Previous owner said one of the handles are original. The all hand made lock looks to be made in a very old style that I am not familiar with. Definitely pre-industrial revolution. The interior is clean except for some dust. Hinges are a bit loose. I will tighten them up. Possible harden the wood receiving the hinge screws. The trunk has no obvious markings. I don't about the paint it is in good overall condition probably less than half the age of the trunk( my guess! really REALLY cute size and nice piece. Note ruler in photos showing ~17" ... morehigh. ~16 deep and under 32" wide. Nails appear to be a mixture of machine made and square top hand-cut. Presumably the newer nail are from repairs So. LARGE ANTIQUE GERMAN IMMIGRANT DOME TOP STEAMER TRUNK EARLY 1800'S
For sale is a huge 1800's immigrant steamer trunk. Best guess is German or Swiss. Has a man's name on the top, AUGUST GEUNERT. NEW YORK. I bought it in Pa. At an antique store. They said it belonged to a Doctor. In Philadelphia.They bought this and several Hepple White pieces. From his estate. It is massive. 45 inches wide,22 deep, and 25 1/2 inches tall. And weighs about 75 pounds. Has a some issues with the wood. Please see photo's. Most are the 1/4 inch trim that surrounds. The lid base. A very easy fix for a carpenter. All the straps are present and in great shape with only the hinge. Front pieces altered. The lock plate is 6 3/4 by 4 inches in great. Condition.I do not have the key. This lock was way ahead of it's time. There is one like this on ebay now for $167.Even they have value. I can find no markings but all metal ... morewas hand forged and smithed. No screws. All rivet and hand pounded straps. The common screw was not mass produced until around 1800. I do not know how to age this chest but. There are no screws in the original chest and metal parts.Look close.This is an old chest. A set of hinges was added later to help to help support the back. This trunk is a very rare find.
