But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. The front of the trunk may read Hauve(France)New York. I think this is a really nice piece, I think it has a good folk art look to it and great to find it with original green paint. Antique John T. Barnum Dome Top Wardrobe Trunk Vintage Rare 1906
We have here a nice and rare antique wardrobe trunk. This trunk was manufactured by the Barnum Trunk Company in 1906(no affiliation to P.T. Barnum) The trunk is what you would have seen your typical wealthy traveler use at the turn of the twentieth century. A little research on the internet yielded the following information: John T. Barnum was born in Rochester. NY on March 5, 1857. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic in Troy. NY in 1879 He moved to Minneapolis. MN in 1880 and began working for D.D. Whitney, founder of the original trunk factory in 1872 In September 1880. Barnum and a colleague, Mr. Goodrich, took possession of the company from the ailing Mr. Whitney The Barnum Trunk Company was incorporated in 1905 This trunk is a dome top trunk measuring 53" high. 22" wide and 21" deep. It has a swing out drawer section ... moreand a roll out clothes rack. Both the trunk and the rack have the Barnum plaques on them from Minneapolis, MN. On the bottom of the rack the stamp reads Pat. Feb. 20, 1906. I have 33 photos of the trunk, if you are interested in seeing them send me a message with your email and I can send the rest of them. The photos show the condition of the trunk. At some point, the trunk was painted the oil-based blue shown in the photos. There are some original hangers and straps on in the trunk also. The only major problems I see are the missing leather handles, one wooded wheel is missing from the roll out rack and the key is missing. Keep in mind this item is over 100 years old, and it likely did a lot of travelling, so it's not perfect. I'm basing my price on a couple different Barnum trunks I've seen sell on the internet. 1870-1890 Victorian Dome Top Doll Chest Steamer Trunk ~ Original and Unrestored
This eye-catching Victorian dome-top/ camel top trunk is estimated to be from the 1870-1890. It is constructed of light weight wood and is covered in a multi-step process: printed paper is reinforced with wooden slats and then covered in tin pieces. The original maker’s label is on the interior lid of the trunk and depicts a young girl. The trunk was designed to mimic the steamer trunks used by adults of the times. As is common with these trunks. The handles are missing on both ends. Replacements are available on eBay if you choose to replace them. The trunks’ lid closes completely but the clasps do not extend far enough to hook. We have not been able to determine the cause of this but it is still fully functional for storage and display. Vintage Industrial Antique Dome Top Camelback Victorian Steamer Trunk Footlocker
This old steamer trunk has plenty of character on the outside and a nice interior. There is a large white paint stain down the front. The leather handles are broken, it is missing a stamped metal flourish, and there is general patina of age and wear and tear. That said, though, there is a beautiful hunting scene inside the lid and an interior that is surprisingly nice in relation to the outside. There are still some rips and splits in the interior lining, but it is almost entirely there. There is some mothball odor, but not unpleasant. The trunk measures 32 1/2" L x 16" W x 18" H. The trunk is 30 1/2" x 15" inside, with slats along either end to support a tray(not included) It measures 12 1/2" to the lip of the opening inside with 4 1/2" of clearance under the lid. I date this box from other photos of known pieces: Primitive hand wrought lock. No key, but, not a difficult one to make. Looks older than other locks I know to be early 19th century I measured it a while ago. will have to measure it again, it is*close* to 30" x 20" deep x 24" high. Antique VICTORIAN HUMP BACK STAGE COACH STEAMER TRUNK Restorable Dome Top A ca. 1880 hump back top steamer or stage coach trunk. It measures approximately 30-1/4” wide. 16” deep and 20” high. There are no marks identifying a maker. The exterior has all of its original parts intact and a caster is located at each corner on bottom for easy rolling around. The lock includes a key and is in working order. Both leather handles are in place and in good shape. The interior and tray are lined in its original paper and the lid and tray both have nice color lithographs. It is being sold as found and needs restoration. It is missing one lid corner protector. The insert box and one support rail for the insert. One leather handle is broken and the other nearly so. Antique Embossed Tin Ladies Dome Top Steamer Trunk French Country with Tray
A sweet Victorian style antique dome top steamer trunk from approximately the late 1800's. It measures approximately 31" long X 16 1/2" wide x 24" high at the highest point near the center. It is covered with a wide strip of black tin on the sides and a center strip of embossed tin with a red floral design. The tin is in nice condition. It needs some cleaning, there's some surface rust but there is no rust through(no holes in the tin) It has beautiful bent hardwood slats holding the tin securely to the lid and all are held in place with brass tacks and medallions. The trunk comes complete with its original tray which has one covered compartment. On the inside of the lid and on the cover of the compartment you'll find chromolithographs, both are women. The bottom of the trunk is covered with plain black tin which ... moreis held in place with plain hardwood slats and it's done a good job of protecting the wood beneath because the inside of the trunk has remained nice and dry. There are 4 small metal wheels on the bottom that make it easier to move around on any hard flat surface. The trunk retains a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago and it's like with its original old paper. Most folks like to remove all of the paper inside, sand down the interior and then give it a coat of sealant which eliminates any lingering odors. Others like to line them with cedar. whichever your preference this old gal will surely be a worthy restoration project which will allow you to add additional storage to you home. I currently have a flat top trunk listed that could be this trunk's sister- it has the same red embossed tin(but more of it) and the chromolithographs feature two children, a boy and a girl. This trunk has dings. Dents, scrapes and other signs of heavy use which you'd expect to see in an antique travel trunk that had been handled as much as these were over the last 100+ years. Charming antique Victorian child's doll domed top steamer trunk for doll clothes or other storage. It is wood covered in paper. There is damage to this piece and it shows its age and use. It still displays well but could use some TCL and restoration. There is no key. There is damage to the paper decoration that I've shown in the pictures and this extends to all sides. The tray is broken in that the square top edges have separated from the original cardboard bottom(but it is all there and could be repaired/restored) There is damage to both handles and one is broken through. Antique Steamer Trunk. Dome/Flat Top, 100+ years old, original never restored This antique Steamer Trunk is commonly referred to as either a“Dome-Top” or“Flat-Top” It has the rounded front and back edges. It is tin covered with wooden bands. The interior has the original tray. Covered compartments and graphics. The hook that holds the tray up is still intact and holds the tray up and out of the way just fine. The pins that hold the tray in place allowing it to swivel up are also fully intact and working. The graphics have amazingly bright vivid colors and are in pretty good shape considering it is over 100 years old. This trunk has small metal wheels on the bottom for easy transportation. As seen in the pictures. They are a little rusty, but the wheels turn remarkably smooth and freely. The leather strap handles have broken off. Through the years, it has developed mild mildew and rust. please refer to the pictures as full disclosure of the condition) I don’t know the year of this trunk but through research and family history I am guessing it to be from the late 1800’s. VINTAGE CAMEL BACK TRUNK ON WHEELS(it's screaming for a make over! This vintage wood camel back trunk is in fair condition. Considering age. The outside is scratched and scuffed from normal wear and there are a few dents. Has a reinforced bottom/boards which holds the small 1/2" casters/wheels(one is missing) There are nail holes in tin out, some of the metal on the outside has cuts/splits(sharp spots) The inside is worn with chipping, peeling paint. It does smell a bit musty, but most old discoveries do. There is no paper lining or tray on inside. The side hinges are missing or broken off. The leather handles are missing with some of the brackets missing. The latches and corner pieces all have a little bit of rust. Even with all that is missing. Antique Late 1800's Slight Dome Top Steamer Trunk Hardwood Slats
A rather plain antique steamer trunk with a slight dome lid that dates to the late 1800's. It measures approximately 28" long X 17" wide x 22' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) and it weighs roughly 38# It's covered with tin and there are attractive hardwood slats running across the top. Back and sides. The wood slats and tin are all held in place with both small and large round top tacks and there are rather plain corner protectors on all of the wood. The wood and metal on this trunk has taken a lot of abuse but these were made to stand up to even the roughest handling and the trunk is still basically nice and sturdy. The trunk has an antique chromolithograph on the inside of the lid of and cattails in the background. The trunk is lined with a dull gray colored paper that has mostly peeled away and ... moreand most folks like to remove all of the paper, sand down the interior and then seal the wood, but there are other options, one is to line the entire inside with cedar. Whichever method you choose will eliminate any lingering dusty odors if you plan to use it for storage. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are no moth ball odors, just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. There's a hole visible way down in the bottom of the trunk that appears to be bigger in the photos than it actually is, my husband has determined that there used to be a knot in the wood and it eventually came loose and was probably removed. The funny looking wood all along the back inside bottom of the trunk is not'lumpy' as it appears to be in the photos, it's flat and smooth and most likely the result of another piece of wood with knots in the finish, the entire inside of the trunk is nice and dry. There is no tray and one of the leather handles are missing and will need to be replaced. We do not have a key for the lock and are unsure if the lock even works so it will be shipped open. Bound in oak and leather with canvas ... morepanels and two interior tills. It looks like a treasure chest to me. I left it uncleaned and unrestored, just the way I found it. You can leave it dusty, or you can clean and polish it to make it pop. Ornate metal hardware(Victorian) Oak wooden slats. Tacked leather edges and decoration. The leather handles are still good. Canvas panel sides and top. Fabric lining over wood interior. Two divided tills as shown. This is trunk is in reasonably good condition for its age. The exterior shows the character of more than a century of age and use. Which includes cosmetic marks, scratches, scuffs, and oxidation to the metal surfaces(all of which looks cool to me) The exterior is dusty in general. There are a few missing nails and rivets. The metalwork and wood have a decent patina that would look even better if polished or restored. Some wood edges are well worn. The leather is dried and cracking in places, and is missing in other places as seen in the pictures, but I think still looks good. One of the four rollers underneath is not functional. This is a beautiful curved Dome top trunk. The curved top. Plentiful nails and amazing-fine hardware, lots of detail, makes this a high-end piece, often known as a Saratoga Trunk. 1860-85 Camel back / Dome Top Wood Steamer Trunk - New fabric-back vinyl lining
This trunk is called a Barrel Stave Trunk. The top of this trunk curves in both directions. And only the upper class could this kind of craftsmanship. The top was designed to prevent other luggage from being stacked on top when traveling by steamer and since they were usually packed on top, they were the first to be unloaded when at their destination. The Barrel Stave Trunks generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. over the top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880's when the other dome construction methods became more widely used. The trunk measures 31” x 19” and 25” high. The tray measures 4-1/4” high at ... morefront edge and the space below tray measures 12-1/2” deep. When I restored this trunk in the mid-1970’s. It was originally covered with a silk-screened fabric. I had to reinforce back of the lid and replaced the hinges, and the leather handles. I decided to replace the metal wheels with wood runners. I never did find a lid-support that fit. My Mother stored balls of wool yarn in this trunk for the last 30-something years. The smell of moth balls was overwhelming. When she moved into my house, her trunk was not welcome. I pulled out all the(atrocious gold and green) wall covering and I dragged it out to the yard for about a week of sunny days before I got the moth ball smell out of it. I finally got the thing relined with fabric-backed vinyl and… Mom doesn't have room for it any more. Antique Child's Steamer Trunk or doll trunk dome camel top small trunk
This little steamer trunk is wood and metal and was likely for a child who wanted one just like his/her parents had. The finish is military army green. The top is the wonderful curved camel-back style. It is metal finished on all edges and affixed with what I believe are brass tacks. And there is metal strapping all around, as well. There are also strips of wood affixed with, again, what I believe are brass tacks and metal corners(all of which are present, and also tacked) The side handle hardware is still present, but the leather that was likely between them is gone. Also, the movable metal pieces that would have gone over the latches are no longer present. The center lock appears to be intact but bent. And there is no key. It appears that there was a shelf inside at one time, but it is no longer present. The hinges work fine. There is a ... morepicture inside the lid of a boy and girl on a wharf. The boy is wearing a striped middy blouse and what appears to be knickers although from his sitting position it is hard to be certain. There is wear to the finish and light stains inside. There is a strip of fabric attached inside which has a name woven in it, likely the maker's name, but I cannot make out what it says(see last picture) On the outside, one side is stenciled Wash, D.C. and the other side is stenciled A.D.L. ANTIQUE STEAMER TRUNK VINTAGE VICTORIAN HIGH DOME TOP CHILD'S TRUNK
During the mid to late 1800's trunks were being made with a dome shape top. This was due to passengers not wanting their trunks being put at the bottom of the stack when traveling. Medium size trunk may have been used for a child. The wood all appears solid and it looks all be pine. Exterior is wrapped in metal with wooden strips and mesh like fabric. The bottom of the trunk has wooden strips with metal casters for rolling. The trunk measures 26 inches long X 18 inches high X a depth of 15 inches. There are round decorative pieces of some type of metal decorating the top and front. The pattern of the canvas is called Mesh and Square. The interior of the trunk is thin pin with light brown paper covering it. Trunks made toward the end of the 1800's used more decorative paper inside. There is an old lithograph picture of a young girl ... moreon the interior side of the dome top. There is a tray that has a compartment that can be removed. It has a lid and a lithograph paper design on it. I believe the wood to be pine and I am not sure what material any of the hardware is. The lock will need a skeleton key which I do not have. I have up for sale a unique and wonderful vintage Copper Covered Humpback Steamer Trunk- yes you are reading this right- copper covered. First time in nearly 30 years of dealing that I have seen a humpback made with copper. It comes from the estate of an elder pair of local collector's. They had a small private museum and this was one of the items in the museum. The trunk weighs approx 33 lbs as you see it. Measures approx 26" long x 19" tall, and 15" deep. It has wood slates, a copper covered body, and brass plated latches and brass plated handles on the sides. I estimate the age to be from the early 1900s to 1940s. The trunk is in very good overall condition! The copper has some age and use wear. Looks as though it was polished way back when and has now darkened and tarnished over. C713) 1880’s– 1890’s Doll’s Dome Top Trunk Maroon& Black“Alligator” Metal Covering This 1880’s– 1890’s doll’s dome top trunk. Measuring 16” across by 10 ¼” tall by 9 1/8” deep, is very attractive just as it came from its attic; we wiped off with a stiff brush, outside, a soft brush inside. It is most unusual& beautiful as its outer covering is pressed tin as an“alligator” hide design done in maroon& black& with many variations in the sizes& shapes of its textured surface. Only a small lower back end has any loss of the black paint as that’s“higher” than the red. There are 3/4” wide metal bands across the dome& down the front of the trunk& 1 end of the back; there are 7/8” metal bands around the bottom of the lid’s front& sides as well as both top ends of the lid’s back& 1 lower end of the trunk’s back. ... moreAll the straps, painted flat black, have 5/8” round tin disks with beaded edges spaced as accents or ornaments, 4 on either side of the top& front with only 1 lost on the back part of the lid. There are also 5 grooved strips of wood added, 3 on top& 1 on the front& back at the middle, all fastened on with thin ornamental tin brackets of sorts. A third of the front’s strip is lost as is that end’s fastener. These wood trim pieces each have 2 of the round beaded accents used on the black bands. The front’s lock is still here, but it has no key; above the lock is the upper part of a latch. There are also 2 round metal disks on the dome, 1 on the front section& 1 on the back; these slightly thicker ornaments have a plain raised rounded edge with a center flower of 6 small round petals. The trunk’s 2 original leather straps are gone, but their metal end holders are still here; I’m glad, especially because each has a raised union shield of stars& bars with other stars under the shields. So perhaps the trunk is older than I thought, maybe as early as the 1870’s. The diminutive handles of brown leather only measured perhaps 2 ¼” long by 1/8” thick. The botto

C713) 1880s– 1890s Doll’s Dome Top Trunk Maroon& Black“Alligator” Metal Covering This 1880s– 1890s doll’s dome top trunk. Measuring 16” across by 10 ¼” tall by 9 1/8” deep, is very attractive just as it came from its attic; we wiped off with a stiff brush, outside, a soft brush inside. It is most unusual& beautiful as its outer covering is pressed tin as an“alligator” hide design done in maroon& black& with many variations in the sizes& shapes of its textured surface. Only a small lower back end has any loss of the black paint as that’s“higher” than the red. There are 3/4” wide metal bands across the dome& down the front of the trunk& 1 end of the back; there are 7/8” metal bands around the bottom of the lid’s front& sides as well as both top ends of the lid’s back& 1 lower end of the trunk’s back. ... moreAll the straps. Painted flat black, have 5/8” round tin disks with beaded edges spaced as accents or ornaments, 4 on either side of the top& front with only 1 lost on the back part of the lid. There are also 5 grooved strips of wood added, 3 on top& 1 on the front& back at the middle, all fastened on with thin ornamental tin brackets of sorts. A third of the front’s strip is lost as is that end’s fastener. These wood trim pieces each have 2 of the round beaded accents used on the black bands. The front’s lock is still here, but it has no key; above the lock is the upper part of a latch. There are also 2 round metal disks on the dome, 1 on the front section& 1 on the back; these slightly thicker ornaments have a plain raised rounded edge with a center flower of 6 small round petals. The trunk’s 2 original leather straps are gone, but their metal end holders are still here; I’m glad, especially because each has a raised union shield of stars& bars with other stars under the shields. So perhaps the trunk is older than I thought, maybe as early as the 1870’s. The diminutive handles of brown leather only measured perhaps 2 ¼” long by 1/8” thick. The bottom of

Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Steamer Antique Trunk w/ Tray, Lock, Keys & Date
With the holiday season soon approaching what a wonderful gift idea it would be to provide that loved one with an antique trunk. This Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk comes with Working Lock. Keys and tray. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks, each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice. Clean refinished dome top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then took off the metal to reveal the gorgeous wood. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the paper from the inside, we sanded all ... morethe wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. The lid on this trunk also has the original lid stay to help keep it open. On this trunk are two new leather Amish handles. There are also latches on this beautiful trunk to keep the lid secure. You will also see on the wood I the left hand corner is the date of 1812 sketched in the wood. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. This trunk also comes with a tray made as a replica of the original. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. Circa 1910 or earlier. The use of large iron round head rivets and iron plates have a long history of industrial applications. Trunk's heavy duty hinges and hasp bound by rivets are better suited for a strong box. Four small iron bun feet are bolted to the bottom of trunk. Measures: 21" tall, 32.5" wide, and 19" deep. What an amazing estate find! Atkinson& Long mfg co. from Petersburg Va made this trunk. Overall trunk is in amazing condition for it's age. Comes with original hangers and material. it doesnt look like anything has been changed out. Trunk lock is bent so it would have to be fixed to close it fully. If you have any questions let me know. This is local pick up only unless you want it freighted to you. We would have to figure out how much that would cost, since i have never used that service before. HUGE Antique Dome Top Camel Back Steamer Trunk --- 40"W x 32”H x 22”D
This is simply a HUGE steamer trunk. One of the largest domed trunks I have come across. It is 40" wide. 32" high and 22" deep. It is a very sturdy and solid trunk. The center lock was cut off of it, however the side latches work properly. It is incredibly ornate and has immense potential. The insert inside the lid works but is coming loose and there is no drawer insert. Trunk still has a sticker on the bottom from the American Railway Company from the 1920's era. Fantastic chest, sides and bottom are made of one piece of wood like a six board chest, grungy old original reddish brown paint, great detail and character, nice patina, dovetailed joints, hand forged iron handles. It has a lock and hasp but no key so the hasp sit uneven on the lock, should be an easy fix. Very solid, tight, ready to use, some wear to the original finish. It has a chip in the bottom of one of the rear corners, looks like it had caster sometime in it's life. It measure approximately 22" long, 15" tall, 14 3/4" wide. Large Antique Dome Top Camel Back Steamer Trunk Tin & Wood --- 34” x 26” x 19”
This antique dome top trunk is in marvelous condition for its age. There is no major damage to this trunk. Just normal wear and tear that you would expect in an item this old. This beauty has tons of character! The beautifully curved dome top, with 4 strips of curved 2-inch wood…is a sight to behold. Just on the top of this trunk are 14 ornately etched plates of metal hardware. All the tin on the chest is embosed with a raised floral pattern. It is truly beautiful. The lock comes without a key and I am not sure if it works. Both latches operate properly. Both leather side handles are missing. They can easily be replaced but I want to leave the trunk 100% original. The trunk is made from tin, metal, and wood. There is a total of seventeen 2” wood strips of varying lengths found on all sides of the trunk. The wood strips look like oak to me…they’re ... morein excellent condition. The trunk measures about 34" long across the bottom x 19” wide at the ends x 26” tall to the center of the dome, which is the highest point. The insert inside the trunk is fully functional and just needs a new coat of lacquer. The trunk was found with many others in the basement of an old building in lower Manhattan. The building manager said they were stored there years ago from unclaimed steamer trunks owned by immigrants who came over from Europe to Ellis Island. Please ask any questions. Antique Trunk Refinished 1860's Dome Top - Great size for blankets
Up for auction today we have available a lovely refinished antique Dome Top steamer trunk. Dating to the Ca. 1860’s. Trunks from this era were either covered in paper, leather, or a thin canvas. This one was originally paper covered. The old paper was removed to highlight the nice wood underneath. This trunk is a beauty. The size is impressive, a perfect trunk for storing winter blankets, pillows, or other seasonal items. It measures 32 x 17.5 x 20 high. The wood was sanded smooth and then treated with a few coats of Early American Stain mixed with Tung Oil. Then a few coats of clear shellac. The original handles are long gone and have been replaced with strong leather straps with the original steel endcaps. This trunk has the metal edging along front and sides. And also wonderful metal strapping highlighted by brass buttons. The front lock ... moremechanism is original, but no key. Trunks from this era had leather straps to keep them closed. This trunk does not have any front hinges. A leather lid stay will be inserted this week. I wish this trunk could talk. The top retains the original tan paper. In relatively good shape, the bottom was stained and torn and we removed what was left. The bottom inside of the trunk is stripped of the paper and has been left as is, au natural. Happy to send additional photos. As with any item over 100 years old. There are character dings and scrapes– the trunk is not new and shows wear. Sometimes the wood underneath has been stained, but this just adds more character to an antique piece over 100 years old. Please look at all photos– this one is a looker and will be a nice conversation piece for your home. Wood is extremely smooth. Antique Camelback Steamer Trunk Dome Top Tin Storage Toys Treasure Chest
This is a gorgeous antique camelback steamer trunk. It measures 33.5" x 19" And the dome reaches 20 3/4 inches tall. It has curved wood pieces with tin fittings, and it has wheels underneath. One of the side latches works perfectly, and the one on the left will fit closed but will not stay closed. I have not tried to close the main latch in the middle because I do not have a key. Note the older style slightly rectangular nailheads. Inside you can see some bare wood in places. But much of it is still covered by the original paper. You can also see two stickers that say Uncle Sam US Army standard 10 1/2. I have no idea what that refers to or their date. Just to the right of the right sticker, you can barely see the remains of the original sticker that was in the trunk. There is only a very, very slightly musty odor. Nice Freshened Up Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key Here is a cute metal dome top that we picked up and freshened it up. There are nine pictures above for you to view. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 inches. From floor to top is approximately 22 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 16 1/2 inches. The embossed metal on the top and front has flowers and leaves patterned onto it. This is the original metal and paint from the factory. The rest of the metal has been freshened up and hand painted in black and gold leaf. The outer slat boards appear to be ash or oak and they have been given two coats of polyurethane. This pretty dome top comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. The front two latches are also original ... moreand work well since the springs are still intact. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have removed the paper lining from the wood since it was worn out looking. The interior wood has been given two coats of polyurethane. A picture of a young person posing has been added to the underside of the dome. A wooden piece has been put from the front on the inside to the back. It has been done so so the trunk lid will line up with the lock and lower latches. Going to the bottom underneath this cute trunk, it has normal wear and it also has the four factory original metal casters on the bottom that still do spin. This one has been pretty much freshened up instead of totally refinished. It did turn out to be nice looking. Especially with the flowered metal. Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key. Interior Compartment Area, and Original Tray With Lids and Pictures Here is an absolutely beautiful dome top steamer trunk or hump back chest from the late 1800's. There are twelve pictures above for you to view and some of them are two in one. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 1/2 inches. We have removed some of the metal from between the outer slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk is made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it. There are some typical distress marks in various places on the wood. ... moreThese include older nicks and dings along with some stress cracks. The majority of all trunks have these similar antique markings which have accumulated over the trunk's long journey or existence. This one has the nice vertical outer slat boards along with horizontal slat boards. The trunk maker did a nice job of putting fancy cap metal on these slat boards. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass. So we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. A nice feature on this trunk is that it comes with the original patent dated working lock. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The key hole cover is patented, Mar 69& Apr 71" We are not always able to match up keys so that the trunk locks work, but in this case we have. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. The handle cap metal is cast iron with cute little perforated stars and triangles on them. Some of the slat board cap metal is also patent dated. It is hard to make it out clearly, but it looks like patented 16 of 80, referring to possible March 16 of 1880 because we have had similar hardware

It is an antique so.Therefore, it is not flawless. The insert is very nice One hinge has been replaced as shown in the pictures and the 2 hinges on the insert have been replaced. This is one of the nicest original trunks I have seen in a long time. The leather straps at some point in time were replaced. The trunk is 27" tall, 34" wide and 20" deep.
