It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. There are two areas on the inside where the wood is split to the outside(one on the top and one on the inside backing) scratches and faded areas of original black decorative decor. The bottom has a couple nails sticking out. There is rusting on the decorative brass fixtures. There is some fraying of the wood in various areas and some holes that do not protrude to the outside of the box. There are handles on either side of the box. It appears that the tray and handles were added and are not original to the chest. Very nice and decorative detail and appeal. Inside original interior paper is mostly gone. But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. The front of the trunk may read Hauve(France)New York. I think this is a really nice piece, I think it has a good folk art look to it and great to find it with original green paint. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain the antique patina. Hand wrought iron handles and hinges are original, the giant lock has a key but does not latch the lid. Korean late Joseon Dynasty Zelkova wood coin money box This is a beautiful antique Korean coin storage chest. Which dates to the late Joseon Dynasty. It was hand made from solid zelkova wood, and has hand wrought iron mounts. This chest measures about 42 1/4" long, by 17 1/2" deep, and 16.1/2 inches high, and sits on shoe feet. The hinged lid is a single board 11 inches deep. This is attractive distressed leather trunk from the first quarter of the 20th Century is a truly charming decorative piece. These are quite versatile pieces, originally designed to carry luggage, but today used flexibly in the home as a decorative piece in the living room as an incredible strike point coffee table in front of a large leather couch. As the side table between the sofa and another chair, as an end table behind a low sofa- possibly with a setup similar to the image above. The present example is a fine work that would originally have been prohibitively expensive, crafted of thick ... morecowhide leather covering the entire surface of the exterior and interior of the trunk, the exterior surfaces still fully original with a fine worn and distressed appeal. The straps are replaced, along with the handles along the sides, allowing this to be a more functional and sturdy piece. It is remarkably heavy, but with the replaced handles it is not a difficult piece to move around the home. It rests over small caster wheels, allowing it to roll if necessary. If you open the lid. The fitted interior is a complex formation of interlocking boxes and compartments, still retained though overall in rough visual condition. The opened lid has it's own compartment, held in with two brass slides that lock in on the right and left- this flips down for a large storage box. Purchased at an estate auction: a circa 1800 deer hide covered document box/ chest. The domed box is lined with newspaper. Much of which is still intact. I have tried to determine a date of the newspaper, but I cannot find a year. There are a couple of articles about"Mr. Jefferson" which could date this piece earlier than 1800(I am not an authority-just a guesser) The 12" x 7 1/4" x 6" tall box is completed with leather hinges, a metal handle, and metal strips and tacks. The body of the box is wood. The piece weighs 3 1/2 pounds. There are losses to the hide hair, the leather strip across the front, and the metal strips on the top, some tack losses, etc. Please note the pictures for further detail. Antique Hand Painted Pennsylvania Dutch German Wedding Blanket Trunk Chest
This is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The flower painting is in pretty good shape on the sides and on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46 inches wide by 23 inches deep by 25 inches high. It has been passed down in my family for several generations. I can remember it always being in a guest bedroom in my grandparents home and they were art and antique collectors. I am in the process of downsizing and I have quite a few pieces to sell. I would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The paint is in good condition but there is some wear on the corners and edges. The interior is in pretty good shape. The boards are solid. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Working Lock& Key Here we are offering a nice refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is a true flat top with no factory arch. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 20 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/2 inches. This lovely trunk is made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. There are plenty of older distress marks on this trunk. This includes some older nicks and dings on the wood in various places along with a couple of small holes in the metal in a few spots. These markings have accumulated over time and are what gives the trunk some of it's antique appearance. We ... morehave the original signed working lock in place on this trunk. It is signed. Corbin Cabinet Lock Co New Britain" We did match up a key that does work with this lock. This one originally had leather straps with buckles that had eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles in the same location where the original ones once were. The front latches are also original and work properly since the springs are intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the inside of this lovely trunk, we have finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. We added a nice trunk maker's style picture of a Victorian girl holding her pet cat which has been applied to the underside of the top. There is a stress crack running along the back of the trunk that we did have to glue to ensure strength in this area. We also remounted the hinges that hold the top in place since they were loose. Going to the exterior bottom underneath this trunk, we had to replace the two bottom slat boards. We also installed a set of four metal glides, one at each corner. MAGNIFICENT"MOTHER OF ALL BLANKET CHESTS" GIGANTIC DOVETAILED SIX-BOARD-BOX õ Actually I think this heroic trunk is an Indonesian Dowry Chest. Or Javanese Storage Trunk(or" Grobog" in Bahasa) To my knowledge. These were the most spectacular, titanic dovetailed chests made anywhere at any time. Each side of this chest is a single gigantic slab of Teak. Cut by hand from the giant Teak trees that once were plentiful in the region. This is the Real Deal, a now rare form, and a magnificent example. The work in this piece is astounding. Every incredibly wide board is hand-planed. Revealing the rich, dark ripple of the aged teak through the subtly faceted carving. The moldings are hand-planed into the boards. The magnificent dovetails seem almost large enough to be a log cabin, the carvings lovely and tasteful subtle coloration ... moreto the wood rich& warming. The iron work is tremendous, robust, aged, hand-forged& intense. And as was the tradition, it's on these really great, large, built-in solid teak wheels! The top slab measures an incredible nearly 25" wide by 36" long in a single slab. Overall height is about 36-1/2" There are two handy compartments inside. One the full height of the interior and one with space underneath. I've been a collector of dovetailed chests for many years& I've collected some absolute beauties. This one is about the most heroic single-slab six-board box I've seen. The Indonesian Grobog chests can be very ornately carved& painted with striking colors. Indonesia is known for its amazing tradition of woodworking and crafts. I like that this one is much more simple& plain than most. And that the aged wood is allowed to be the most prominent surface. Indonesian chests like this are getting very rare. There was a time back in the 1990's when great containers of Indonesian Antiques were being shipped over. But like the flood of large Chinese Antique chests& cabinets that seemed to crest around the time of the Three Gorg

This was really a great find.a turn of the century Late Ottoman Turkish or Middle Eastern inlaid with mother of pearl walnut chest or dowry or blanket box. The pattern involves stars and other geometric shapes and some carvings that resemble birds and it is in very good condition. Patina is beautiful and finish is original. The base is an interesting combination of incised lines and inlaid mother of pearl stars on a reticulated base. It is all hand dovetailed. Height = 19 5/8" Length = 33 5/8" Depth = 16 5/8" Add a piece of glass to the top and have the perfect coffee or even side table. These old antique inlaid mother of pearl chests and tables and trunks are very flexible as they can be added to man different decors. REDUCED Beautiful Antique Vanderman Stong Box/Trunk/Chest - Nicest you'll find!
Beautiful Antique Vanderman Strong Box This is an 1897 Vanderman Strong Box which has been professionally restored and is in absolutely beautiful condition. It was made by the Vanderman Mfg. Co. of Willimantic. Conn. and patented July 13, 1897. Vanderman manufactured these boxes in several different sizes, many of which were used as tool chests and by the construction trade. It is made of 1/16" steel which was formed into a rectangular shape and on the top, sides, and bottom are solid oak wood staves/slats riveted to the steel. The corners have custom fit steel reinforcing at every outside edge point. There is a Vanderman brass plaque at the lower center of the front panel. Additional locking mechanisms are in each of the two upper corners of the lid and body wherein railroad style locks were used to secure bolts which are no longer ... morepresent. The original bolts are not included, but I am including two replica bolts, similar to the originals, that can be used to"lock down" the top. The bolts are hex head cap screws in 304 stainless steel and have been given a black oxide finish to match perfectly. There is a large handle on each end which features a stop mechanism that doesn't allow the handle to go beyond a 90 degree position so that no hands could be crushed due to the excessive weight which this kind of box typically held. Unfortunately, the original lock is not included. The oak slats are all in excellent condition and the wood tone of the oak is really impressive. All the steel rivets have been polished and look great against the oak. Matching the rivets that also hold the box together. The body of the box has been polished clean with a wire wheel and is smooth to the touch. There are a few minor dents/dings, but nothing major. Several of the photos turned out a little dark. The body of the box is not painted in any way, but rather has a sort of gunmetal gray/steel look and pictures#2 and#3 are best representative of the body color. This beautiful PENNSYLVANIA blanket chest belonged to my great uncle. He was a huge collector of antiques! My husband and I love this piece. But we are such huge collectors ourselves we simply do not have the room for it anymore. I tried to find out the how, when and where of this piece, but was only able to get a little info. My grandfather(his brother) said he had it in his collection since he was married, so that was between 1930-1940. He loved estate sales and auctions, so I am assuming that is where he first purchased it. He pretty much didn't travel at all, so I would bet this came from an estate around 1930-1940 and in the area of Somerset, Westmoreland, Fayette or Bedford county PA. He lived in Indian Head PA-if you want to Google the area) My grandfather said it was always in his living room but you would never notice because ... morethey kept a blanket over it to protect it. This piece is mid to late 1800s at least.it may be earlier than that. My husband is a dairy farmer but also builds furniture on the side. He added the base. When we got this piece it had no base. But he tried to match it with the time period. He loves Soap Hollow furniture and tried to match it to that type of look. It also has a small section on the top/lid that has been repaired(early repair, not by my husband)pics 3& 11. The hinges were replaced at some point as you can see in pic 10-to the left of the hinge you can see the original nails used. It is old and not perfect.but it shouldn't be it is from the 1800s. This is a very nice and all original vertical wardrobe steamer trunk that has a label on it for Cappel Luggage Stores Dayton and Cincinnati. My research shows that Adam Cappel had an umbrella factory in Dayton Ohio and was in the luggage business. At this point I'm unclear whether he made luggage at the factory or simply sold it in the retail stores. It does have many of the characteristics of the Schmidt manufacturers in Oshkosh. Either way. Nice Refinished Clinton Brand Flat Top Wall Trunk With Manufacturer's Label. Working Lock& Key, And Interior Tray Here is a very unique refinished patent dated and factory labeled Clinton Wall Trunk. Here are the following measurements: from left to right across the front is 33 1/4 inches. From floor to top is 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This trunk is named a wall trunk since it can be put right up against the wall and the lid can be lifted up without hitting the wall since very little space is needed for it to open properly. Most trunks need to be about three or four inches away from the wall for the lid to be opened. Look at the pictures and we have shown the signed and patent dated hinges. It is signed, Clinton Wall Trunk Mfg Co Clinton Mass Patented Feb 25 1890" We detailed these embossed numbers ... moreand letters with black paint to make them more legible. We are calling this a flat top steamer trunk, although there is a very slight factory arch to the top, noticeable in the side view picture. This trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it and give it a nice appearance. The wood is in it's natural color which is a tannish brown color. There are a couple of typical stress cracks in the wood. Most all of the trunks that we refinish have one or more stress cracks. The front latches are original and work ok since the springs are in place. We have given this trunk a nice older sturdy working lock, signed"Yale" It comes with the proper key so you can lock your personal belongings away from others if you choose to do so. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have made a nice tray for the interior. It rests at the top edge. You can sort smaller items in this tray, then lift it up and place many more items deep inside the belly of the trunk. We have shown a close up picture of

Antique Rawhide Doucument Chest, Trunk, Maine Forged Iron, Folkart, 200 yr.old ?
We bought this Document Chest in Maine almost 10 years ago. They told us it was a'Pony Hide' Document Chest. It is made of wood and covered with rawhide. I think it could be up to 200 yrs. old. I think it is Folkart; It would make a wonderful display or decor piece as it is not too big. 18"L x 9"H x 10.5" deep. It is made of wood. With a gently curved top. Decorative upholstery type tacks hold down the rawhide, thru tanned leather strips. The rawhide has split in a couple of place due to its age, and shrinkage. I believe someone inherited the Chest and changed the first inital from a P to an L. The lock and handles are delicately hand forged Iron. They did not have the key for it. Country Pine Folk Painted 1840's Antique Immigrant Trunk or Chest. Hand crafted in northern Europe in the 1840's. This picturesque immigrant trunk or chest is wormy pine with hand painted floral motifs resembling traditional Scandinavian rosemaling. Hand planed with hand cut corner dovetails. This furniture has a beautiful old finish. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina. The interior is very clean. There is a compartment with a lift lid for valuables. Hand wrought iron mounts and handles are original, there are losses to the banding as shown. Target Stores Market Bazaar Map Trunk Decor Storage Chest
Up for bid is a Market Bazaar Map Trunk small storage chest distributed by Target Corporation. I am unfamiliar of the wood but it is light brown in color and very lightweight. There is a paper covering on the chest that is in the theme of tropical foliage and maps. The colors are browns and greens. With various shades of gold and it has the old world appearance to it. The hardware is oiled rubbed bronze metal and in great condition. Please note in Photos there is an area in the front where the paper is peeling up that looks like it can be glued back down as well as a small chip in the front right hand corner of the trunk. The trunk measures 10" in length by approximately 8" in height and 6" wide. It weighs approximately 2 pounds.
