RARE Early Primitive Antique Colonial Camphor Chest Voyage Trunk Original Brass
This auction is for a Primitive Camphor Voyage Chest. The chest is made from the aromatic Camphor wood. The chests were used for travel and safe keeping of personal items. The aromatic wood therefore served as a natural pest repellent. I have been unable to determine the precise age of this chest however it is believed to be a very early primitive example from the mid to late 1800's. The craftsmanship is amazing, there is dovetailing at each corner joint and the original brass slats are still fully intact. The lock mechanism is also fully intact but missing the original key. The exterior has seen some age and wear, but the integrity of the box has not been compromised, it is sturdy and will continue to withstand the test of time. I am offering a lovely vintage wooden trunk measuring approximately 23 inches long and 12 inches wide and 9 1/8 inches tall. The box has lovely and beautiful metal decorations. The inside of the box is lined with I believe rice paper which has Chinese writing on it. The box is in very good condition but does have a few scratches and some small nicks(see pictures) The postage is estimated and will refund any significant overcharge.

Vintage Hand Carved Large Chinese Chest/Trunk Purchased in Hong Kong 1950's
Here is a unique find. This was a recent auction purchase that was brought over from Hong Kong in the early 1950's. It was purchased by a Minnesota military pilot who lived in Hong Kong in the early 1950's. When he and his family moved back to Minnesota in 1954. They brought the chest with them. I don't know the age of this chest other than when it entered the country. The chest is very intricately carved with wonderful detail. The chest measures approximately 39" wide. 19" deep and 23" from floor to the top of the lid. The lid of the trunk has a broken brass interior lid stop that prevents the lid from being opened to far. There are a few small marks on the lid probably from someone forgetting about the broken stop while opening the lid. One of the Asian men has part of a lock of hair missing on the lid. The back ... moreright joinery of the trunk does have some movement and cracking however the lid still functions as it should. I am guessing the humid climate in summer along with dry winters have had some effect on the wood. The latch will need to be reattached by removing the three screws and putting it back together. It is shown in the pictures however is just laying on the hasp. There is a very unusual brass lock that needs to be repaired. The brass claws will need to be reattached to the locking mechanism and the H key for the lock is not present. There is also a dime size blemish in the front of the chest. Looks like it may have been bumped while moving. This item will be for pick up only however we can bring it to a shipping location in Minneapolis area however all logistics will be the responsibility of the buyer. Different Chinese motif that is exquisitely carved on five sides of the chest. camphor is a natural repellent against moths and wood boring insects. there are some scuffs and scrapes and some pink paint drops on the back(see last pic) on this piece. we took pictures from a lot of angles so you can get a better idea of its condition. it's a very attractive piece and will compliment any room. this measures approximately 15" tall x 33 1/2" long x 16" deep. this has been stored for many years. Beautiful Refinished Large Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks& a Key and Interior Tray This one has surely come a very long way from when we purchased it. This one was completely painted pastel green on the exterior like they used to do in the 1970's with a lot of furniture items. We spent a heck of a lot of time stripping over 99% of the ugly paint off of the exterior. The trunk should date back to around 1900 or so. It is quite unusual in which it has the double locks. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has turned out to be a nice tannish brown color on the base wood and a tannish color to the slat boards. The wood is in pretty good condition although there are some scrapes and nicks ... moreon the wood in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. All of these markings are very common on most all of the trunks that we refinish. When we received this trunk. The lower locks were cut off. So we have installed two vintage Eagle Lock Company locks, both of which will work with the one key provided. The upper receiving part for the locks on this trunk are original indicating that we have replaced the locks with similar ones. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/4 inches. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. All of our leather for these trunks is obtained from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. This beautiful flat top trunk which is a true flat top with no factory arch, did have a leather strap that ran up the front and across the top. It was missing, so we have replaced it with an Amish made leather strap with roller buckle. It

Gorgeous Extra Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Double Latch Style Lock. Working Key, Interior Compartment Area, and an Interior Tray Here is a rare find since this trunk is exceptionally loaded with fancy hardware and it comes with the beautiful double latch lock. This beautiful dome top should date back to the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. This wonderful trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome top is made of early ply. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it look ... morenice. There are some typical older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. These distress marks are quite common and typical on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. The base wood has a tannish brown color while the outer slat boards have a more medium or walnut brown color. This trunk maker must have spent who knows how many hours applying all of the fancy metal hardware to this trunk. We counted how many metal hardware parts are on this trunk which include the lock, latches, and wheels. It came up to over 90 pieces. That is just incredible. We have not had a trunk this fancy in quite a long time. We wish we could find fancy trunks like this more often, but they are hard to come by. Some of the fancy metal rosettes that are on the top slat boards have been pressed flat over the years of being shipped on railroads and having other trunks and items stacked on top of them. They are all there, just we wanted to say that some are flat and some are still domed. It's not a big deal, we just thought we should mention it so there won't be any surprises. Fantastic 19th Century German Trunk The sides are slightly curved by design-this is not a square box. Probably for a buggy. Overall good and worn condition with great old patina and attractive wear to the wood and paint. Circa mid 1800s. The hinges and straps are original. There are missing and rusted pieces of the metal and some chips and cracks in the wood. This came to the US in the 1880s from Germany and was found in the barn owned by the same family whose relatives were those German Immigrants. There is part of a paper sticker on the side with German writing. 1870's Small Antique Chest Trunk Refinished Original Hardware
Beautifully refinished 1870's children's trunk or chest. Great wooden handle with ornate metal edge brackets. Has a latch that closes but doesn't lock. This size and style was very commonly used for children to store their clothing or toys. I wouldn't recommend it for children now. However. Originally. The trunk was covered in paper with the"Western Squares" pattern out the outside. This pattern was intended to resemble a pressed leather design and was all the rage in the 1870's. The inside was covered with faded calico paper. As is common with restoring antique trunks, the paper was too degraded and musty smelling to save. Still maintains most of the original hardware with it's patina including metal hinged latch. Lid hinges, nails, and edge banding around lid. Three nails needed to be replaced during the ... morerestoration process. Fabric strap lid restraint was degraded and replaced with an new 100% hemp strap, similar to the original. Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock and key and full Interior My husband and I have refinished over 170 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is absolutely beautiful very nice decorative refinished dome top hump back steamer trunk from the late 1800's. The particular d imensions for this are 28" length. 16 1/2" width and 18 1/2" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. This would also make a wonderful Christmas gift for you or someone that you cherish. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began ... moreby taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and on the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We also found on the metal a patented date of March 16. 1872. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we installed a new lock with 2 working keys. The lid has the original picture and original label. The label has written on in"Baer's Evansville Trunk Factory" Evansville. The lid is held perpendicular by a chain when it is opened. The chest measures 26" L x 11.5" W x 10"T. The toolbox is divided into several different compartments inside. Up for sale is this vintage or antique early 20th century humpback trunk. The front. Back and top have metal panels with a reptile skin texture. The side metal panels are smooth with a blue tint. The humpback top has wood banding. There is metal banding on the edges. It has metal one directional wheels on the bottom. There is extensive patina on the metal and wear on the wood finish. Part of the metal lid strip is missing on the front corner, and the leather handles are missing. It has 2 broken hinges and the inside shows use wear as in soiling, filth, staining. The lid on the insert is detached but is included with the trunk. It has a strong smell of moth balls. The lock does not latch and we do not have the key. However, the other 2 latches do function. The wood appears to be old growth Oak boards. Hardware is ancient and also hand made. There is what looks like some non orginal wood added to the edges. As you know Chicago was the center of Industry in the 1800's so it may have come from an old factory or on one of the many ships that came in from Lake Michigan. I did see a similar chest at the Chicago Historical society a few days ago that was from the early 1800's. I'm not sure how to date it. so see the pix and you be the judge. Measuring 61" long, 21 1/2" wide, and 21 1/2" deep, it has all of its original brass latches and appointments and is monogrammed" H" surrounded by a stenciled diamond. This Barnum Dressing Trunk has a roll-out maple cage with clothing ties to keep garments contained. The original decorative trim. Nail heads, and anchor-type handle add to its charm and character. Antique Wood Wooden Chest / Marriage Box Trunk Hand Painted Flowers / Tulips
Hi. For sale an antique wood/ chest(circa 1800s/ early 1900) marriage box. I am not positive of the boxes origin but I believe this is Folk Art. There are hand painted tulips on the edges and hand painted white flowers used in early American art. The measurements are 17 inches wide or long. 9 1/2 inches in height, and 7 1/2 inches deep. The chest/ Box weighs 11 pounds. It does have wear which is to be expected for it's age. The paint on the flowers have faded in some places, there are a few cracks on the wood, one is on the bottom(does not go all the way through, and one is on the inside of the lid. Wood shrinks with age and cracks are normal. There are a few places where wood has chipped off(one on the foot) the lock is missing and there is a heavy patina especially the places that would get the most use(by the handles. The front side ... morehas a darker patina(see 2nd picture) than the back side, it was probably sitting up against a wall and was covered on the top. The feet did have felt pads at one time. The rivets(or nails) are old type nails. It is made very well, it is very heavy and sturdy and it closes fine. It is a very beautiful piece whatever its origin is and the paint job is intricate and looks like it was very time consuming. Please email with any questions I will be glad to help. Here we have 8 near perfect TIN corner bumpers. They are a small size at 3/4" across the flat. All are identical! You'll need"Flat Head" screws because the holes have flared edges to mate with the screw head angle making a flush mount! The small size must mean they are used on jewelery box's.
