This is a very cool primitive trunk or blanket chest. If you love primitive furniture. This is for you. It is a very light color wood. It measures 17 1/2" high by 32"long by 20" deep. You will see from the photos that there are dings, scratches, paint marks and water stains(on the right rear and side- see photos) It holds a lot of sheets, pillows, a blanket or two, etc. The leaves and petals on the bottom are potpourri. Originally it smelled musty and I keep potpourri in it just to be safe. There is a hole in the lid for a rope pull. The rope wasn't there when I bought it. There is a slightly domed piece of decorative wood on the top. Top has two nails inside lid. John Tuckley says that his family's history records that John's grandfather. William Henry Tuckley was a tinplate worker who worked with Jones Brothers from 1910 to 1918. His work there included making Jabecoe metal boxes, which were supposed to be unsinkable. The trade mark attached to each showed an African man holding one of the boxes. These boxes were presumably connected with the extensive West African trade. William was a shop steward and lead a strike at Jones Bros. when the firm started to employ women to make ammunition belt boxes. These women were not replacing men who had left to join the war but were employed simply because they were cheaper. This trunk was owned by Tony Orlando(see below) This steamer shipping trunk has a hinged domed lid painted with"Bremen and New York" in black letters. The trunk opens to reveal a small raised compartment on the interior left side. There are some cedar shavings that are still present in the trunk. The large storage piece has its original wrought iron handles and having brass pull and escutcheon to front. The Trunk measures 31"H x 45.75"W x 23.5"D. We put the date to early 1820's to mid 19th century. The Trunk's condition has overall surface wear& scratches. We have not yet waxed this piece and offer it in it's"as found" condition. This is a great antique trunk that at one time was used by Lumpee& Russ Harness Makers; I cannot make out the rest of the wording. The trunk is structurally solid. The valet tray has two holes but this could be nicely refinished. The top tray has two sections with one that does have the leather/button loop closure intact. There is no key in the locking mechanism that was made by Yale Towne MFG out of Stamford. Conn. It weighs just under 55 pounds. This is being sold as is. If you live on the I-5 corridor on the west coast(Washington, Oregon and California) I have a shipper. Up For Sale is this awesome antique trunk. It has M.F.M. initialed on the side. The trunk is very solid and has a lot of character. It is a green color. It only has a slight arch on the top. So it would be great for a coffee table or to store blankets and such. It is good shape for the time and could be easily restored. There is no structural damage. The only damage is that on of the latches is missing some pieces and the leather is worn. Both of the handles are intact, but as you can see in the photo one is coming apart. 1920's OSHKOSH STEAMER WARDROBE TRAVEL TRUNK CHEST Ironing Board PIN CUSHION
Stands about 42 tall x 26 x 23 inches. It has a last patent date of 1923. It has six drawers. One drawer has an iron holder insert and there is also an original large pin cushion that came with this trunk. Each drawer is unique with various partitions and tie downs. There are telescoping rods for the many various original hangers. There is also a removable latching box. Pretty clean inside with very light wear. The top leather handle is broke. Some minor scuffs, scratches, paint drops present. No holes or big dents. The key lock looks as if it was pried open, but it still latches the trunk shut when rotated. No key. weighs around 90 pounds. You can set up the shipping if you would like, and i could pacakage it for a small fee.

It is intricately and beautifully carved and in overall fine condition for its age. It has wear as expected, some repairs to wood, some holes in wood in the base. Antique 16th Century Wedding Chest / Cassone / Trunk; Ornate Carved Walnut 1500s
We bought this cassone at an auction in New York several years ago(I have included the auction listing in the final photo) It is really. Really beautiful and really, really old. While most cassones of this type originate in Italy. Apparently this one is from Syria and was dated as 16th Century. It obviously has quite a few scratches and nicks, but is still in good shape. It has not been refinished or polished etc. On the base. A small piece broke off at some point- it was glued back, which is not ideal, so this does, apparently, affect the value. The pulls are in good condition and have hammer marks and rustic charm from being hand forged by a blacksmith. These were likely removed after the chest or tool box was rotten from being in a barn. They are 4 7/8" long and stand out 3/4" and when lifted the handle stands out 1 7/8" The back plate is 2" tall. 19th C leather covered brass studded camphor wood trunk. Hand painted. Floral design border.Measurements(inches)35.5" wide18.5" deep16.5" tallThis beautiful blanket chest in its original condition. There is wear to the leather and the paint as shown in the pictures. Most noticeable is the lid on the trunk. The leather is worn around the edges of the trunk as well. The leather has been recently conditioned with 100% Neatsfoot Oil leather softener preserver. One of the original rolling ball type footing hardware is missing, the other three are still in good working condition. Missing original latching hardware. Dimensions are 30" length) x 24" width) x 20" depth) Not sure the maker of this trunk but it came from Brendel's Hat Store run by John F. Brendel on Main Street in Galena. IL and there's plenty of interesting history behind that: Mr. Brendel first saw the light of day Nov. 15. 1815 at Neuemuhl, Baden, Germany. In 1836 he came to American and located in New York for a short time, from which place he passed on to Cincinnati, O. where he met and married Miss Margaret Miller, of Buffalo, N.Y. After working several years at his trade, that of a tailor, in Cincinnati, he came to Galena in 1842 and opened a merchant tailoring store, soon after taking into partnership a Mr. Held. That gentlemen remained in business with him but a few years, when he withdrew. Mr. Brendel ran the business alone very successfully for a number ... moreof years, when in 1871 he took into partnership with him his eldest son, John, who died about three years ago. From that time till the present the firm was designated as Brendel& Son. As a business man he was both successful and unfortunate. He made a great deal of money, and but for unforseen[sic] and unpreventable reverses he might have died a very wealthy man. His first streak of bad luck was a fire in December, 1845, where the Johnson building now stands. This was only the first of a series of similar accidents, he having burned out no less than five different times with heavy loss each time. The second time he burned out was in'53 where the Nagle building now stands. On the 1st of April, 1856, his property went up in smoke in the great Schmohl block fire. In June, 1859, his household goods were destroyed by fire while living in the Maxeiner building. Some years ago he purchased and moved into the building opposite the European hotel, where he since continued the business. It is 12.5"x37"x21" Made of a thick resin board that is riveted and has unique metal corner caps and metal support brackets. The leather handles on both ends are damage one is missing. No Reserve, This is a lovely aged wooden trunk recently removed from a small cottage property, The wood has an appealing honey coloured patina, The top lid has a naturally occuring crack running across it that in my opinion only adds rather then detracts from its authentic charm. Either end has a metal carrying loop handle. There are black gothic flavoured embedded metal reinforcing corners. The lid clicks down nicely into place but there is no key for the lock, Inside the trunk is lined with Vintage paper. This item has all the knocks and bruises of historical usuage. Antique Hand Painted German Pennsylvania Dutch Chest Trunk Dowry Dower Blanket
Beautiful Antique German Pennsylvania Hand Painted Trunk Chest For sale is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The painting appears to be on top of a gesso or tempera of sorts. The flower painting is very nice and in pretty good shape on the sides but worn on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46.5 inches wide by 23.5 inches deep by 23.5 inches high. It shows a good deal of age because it is very old. I am not certain but would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. It is possible that it is older since the joints and hardware are similar to chests claiming to be early to mid 1700s. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The iron hinges could use a little straightening. There are square ... moreand round nails holding it together. Some of the nails for the hinges have been replaced with screws. The paint is cracked and peeling and missing and dirty. The interior of the trunk shows mostly red. The lid has a label and a picture of cupids. The label in in German but I don't think it has anything to do with the origin or maker of the trunk. There is a small lidded storage compartment on the left side. The ball feet appear to be correct. One toward the back shows deterioration. There are some random areas that show past termite activity or worm holes. I am not sure. The boards are solid. Though. This trunk was just removed from a Los Angeles storage unit and needs a very thorough cleaning. I am not an expert on such pieces and welcome any details people might be able to add.
