You see the condition, she definitely has character. The bare wood was once covered with a heavy type decorative paper, most of that is gone but you see some remnants of that in places. The original label was found in the trunk. It belonged to a gentleman in Escanaba Michigan. Maybe you can reincorporate the label back into a repurpose project(maybe lacqure it onto the top side? There is leather and metal construction incorporated into this little trunk. The leather handle is broken and the leather straps are gone with just some of their remnants being in place. A Ladycomet Primitive Early Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest
Charming Early Primitive Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk Here is a nice refinished flat top steamer trunk from the mid to late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is 16 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/2 inches. This one is a more primitive style trunk in which there is more wood showing and less fancy metal hardware. This one still has the Jenny Lind influence in which there are the small brass rosettes or buttons on the thin metal banding at the sides. The trunk is made up of poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards on the top. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older nicks and dings on the wood in various places. This trunk comes with the original lock which has been remounted ... morewith screws. The lock does not work since the top engagement piece or latch that swings down into the lock is missing. The lock is AS IS since this part is missing. The side handles have some wear, but were in good enough condition to keep. They are brown leather stitched straps. This trunk might serve nicely as a coffee table since it does have a flat top. These trunks can also be used to store collectibles like Civil War items or coins within. A real common way to use a trunk like this is to store clothing and other personal belongings within it, especially in a bedroom at the foot of the bed. Going to the interior, the wood is totally rough cut boards. There was glue residue on these boards which held the paper lining in place. The glue residue was light colored, so we had to stain the interior wood dark to try to cover up the lighter glue areas. The interior is dark colored with some glue areas showing and has rough cut boards. A nice picture of a girl holding her pet cat has been added to the underside of the top. Antique1800's mini trunk. In original great shape for it's age[1860s-1870s] very sound structure and no mildew or musty smell. Measures in inches approximately: 7" D X 16" W X 8" H inches. Has been in the family since the early 1970's. Features: Small wooden dome top style antique chest red/brown black lithograph paper covering from the civil war period. The paper covering is original but tattered. No mildew or musty smells. Ornate metal accent features are not damaged nor bent and are all present. The leather hinger look to be from the 1800s but may not be original or have been renailed over the years. Some missing paper at edges. Some edges and a section on top. 1880's Dome Top Trunk Painted and Great Storage Pirate Chest
Up for auction today we have a very nice refinished antique trunk- dating to the late 1880's- this trunk is wood with tin covered over the wood. The original trunk came to us with drab green metal on the sides and front and top. The back has a marbleized yellow pattern on parts of it. I sanded the wood slats and stained and treated them with Tung oil and polyurethane- they shine and are beautiful. The top I painted hunter green- adding a nice"pop" to the trunk. It is not period by any means. Just cool and colorful. I finished the black metal sides with flat satin black and then polyurethaned the other parts of the metal. We replaced the handles and the trunk is solid- heavy- with the original four small castors on the bottom, making it easy to roll on carpet. This Huge Vintage truck measures 40"x23"x 25" and has a dark military green finish. The base is made from metal and the sides are wood wrapped in leather. I have seen these used as storage trunks as well as coffee tables in the past. It could also double as a Cedar chest or window seat. The outside has that natural distressed look that is sought after these days. The hinges and latches all work and the key and lock mechanism has been removed previously. The leather cary straps are in great shape and can even be used to carry the trunk. Here is an antique Steamer Trunk Wardrobe. The sides are flat so this could be used as an interesting coffee table. The outside brass has a little oxidation and there are assorted nicks and dings from use but overall it's in pretty good shape. It has all four(4) drawers. The top drawer locks and I believe one of the keys works in that lock. All the hanging mechanisms work- the hanging bars extend out etc. I have all the wooden hangers(see photo) It smells a little musty inside but probably nothing Febreeze and fresh air won't fix. The lock on the outside works and I have two(2) original keys plus a new one I had to have made when I locked the keys inside. I have always called this the Circus trunk because I bought it in Sarasota. Florida which has very strong circus ties. Sarasota was for many years the winter home of Ringling Brothers ... moreCircus and Barnum and Bailey Circus and now has an excellent Circus Museum and the Ringling Art Museum(formerly the Ringling residence) The man I bought the trunk from said it had belonged to a circus performer. This is a fun piece of Americana and of special interest to Circus fans everywhere! I don't know how much this weighs. Probably 70-100 pounds I would guess. Antique Rare M M Secor Original Leather Steamer Trunk Chest
Antique Rare M M Secor Original Leather Trunk. This is a beautiful old rare original MM Secor of Racine. WI leather trunk for stagecoach, train, steamship traveling. It is leather over wood with four roller wheels. It is circa 1866-1900. The exterior leather has a beautiful soft patina with beautiful hand hammered copper rivets. This trunk has some scratches and stains and discoloration but overall it is just beautiful. MM Secor was established in 1861 and was the first trunk maker in the US. Please have a close look at all of the photos. Two of the of the leather handles are missing and I will leave it to the new owner to replace with the correct leather handles. Two of the four roller wheel brackets on the sides have screws in them instead of the original copper rivets, these can easily be changed back. Inside it is mostly complete with ... morethe exception of some missing straps and small hardware, another easy fix. The trunk has all original hardware in good condition but the key is missing. The bottom of the trunk has three labels, Texas Express Company, Dallas, TX, Texas Express Company, Austin, TX and Moore's Hack Baggage and 10 Cent Parcel Delivery, San Diego, CA. This travel trunk measures 29 1/2" long x 17" wide x 19" tall and weighs 54 pounds. There is a patent date on some of the hardware, Jan 16'66. This trunk is solid and straight. This is a Antique Pirate/ Ship Trunk that is in great condition outside and excellent condition inside. I actually just refinished the inside by removing the old paper mounted within and then primed it with Kilz Paint and then painted the inside with a warm cream color. It has a removable inside shelf with two dividers( one divider is removable) It measures 36 1/4" long. 21 1/4" deep and 12 1/4" high. The removable inside shelf is 4" tall. It is super clean inside as you can tell by the pictures. It dose not have a key. The two side latches keep it closed up tight. Antique Vanderman stagecoach/railroad trunk from the late 1800's to early 1900's. The trunk/Strong box is in original condition and has not been restored. One top board is damaged as shown in photograph. This trunk in solid and in very good condition for its age. Also included is a set of vintage tools to include a large level. A 30 inch block plane, drill bit set with box, saw, wood mallet, axe head, and ammunition belt. This is a rare trunk and extremely rare to have the vintage tools included.
