Ladies Saratoga Trunk" Otherwise known as a"Barrel Stave Top" or"Dome Top" ... moreThis style of trunk is quite often mistakenly referred to as a steamer trunk; steamer trunks are a maximum of 14" tall and flat. A bit rough. Someone removed the lock portion of the main latch. It is an unusual double latch design. The compartment lid inside has broken and been repaired. Corner wear, some surface rust and oxidation. Leather handles broke off and were replaced with some very heavy duty brass handles a long time ago. The brass handles appear to be quite old. One of the cast strap clamps is broken yet all there. There is some damage to the tin clad skin. Original lining is cracked and torn in places. It appears to be all original with the exception of the handles and has not been painted(painting these trunks takes away from their value significantly) I'm sure I'm missing something so please look at the photos carefully and ask questions! Item is available for preview with appointment. I personally would leave it an unrestored original yet it could be restored bringing its value up. This would make a great display piece in your store, business or home. It has a covered hat/ glove compartment in the lid. Hardwood slats. The inside of the lid has the 2 original color chromo-lithographs; one depicting a man pushing a wheelbarrow with a woman and 3 children inside and the other is a woman pushing her daughter on a swing with a smaller picture of what appears to be ice skaters. The latch catch inside is cast and reads" Pat Oct 23, 77" 1877) There are 4 metal rollers on the bottom. There is a number 33 painted on the bottom. The secondary latches have 2"cross" cutouts. It has ... morea very pretty pressed tin design mixed in with the wooden strips. It really makes a very pretty display piece and has kind of a modern industrial look about it due to the pressed tin. It would look great in a warehouse loft apartment. It is in display condition but has issues as a useable trunk. Both of the old leather side handles are missing. The large front center hinge lock works fine but I do not have a key for this trunk and don't know if the lock works. Both of the side front locks have issues but display well. There are no interior drawers. The interior shows it's age but would be great for storage. It measures as follows. It is 28 inches wide, 17 inches deep and 19 inches tall. I've tried to take a number of pictures so that you can judge for yourself it's quality and value. Please feel free to email me any questions you may have about this item. The rich patina ... moreand rivets attest to the age of the trunk. The hand forged handles on each end of the trunk are in perfect condition. The heavy iron hinges and latches are reminiscent of medieval iron pieces. The interior of the trunk is in very nice condition and features fine natural wood. This trunk is still in spectacular condition because it was built by skilled craftsmen. It remains a strong and sturdy piece and has no real damage of any kind. It measures 49 1/2" long x 28 1/2" wide x 20" high. I believe the original latches were altered at some point, but the trunk is all original and will be a fine piece for many years to come. This flat top trunk is the most highly sought after style of trunk and makes a perfect coffee table for any room. This trunk would make an excellent addition to any home or antiques collection.
