It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. The front of the trunk may read Hauve(France)New York. I think this is a really nice piece, I think it has a good folk art look to it and great to find it with original green paint. These trunks are some of the largest and heaviest ever made and are designed to stand on end for packing or open use. One half of the trunk, usually the right half, is filled with drawers while the other half has clothes hangers, usually a shoe box, and sometimes an ironing board and even a flat iron. Pity the people who had to move these monsters around, most are heavy even when empty! Wardrobe trunks have become more and more popular just in the last few years. Many are restored and then used in bedrooms of small apartments as a combination chest of drawers and closet. Most of them were made in the 1920s and 1930s with some going back nearer the turn of the century. Note how the upper part of the left half of the one above opens up to allow better access to the hangers. The two chrome rods in the same area telescope out to give the hangers more room when the trunk is open. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. They represent a much simpler time in this country. It's that emotional connection that makes them so appealing to collectors, and will only increase the value of the piece in time. There are not many of these trunks left. The odds of anyone having the same exact one are slim. note: We have several other wardrobe trunks available but not yet listed. Well-cared for, large antique Victorian steamer trunk from the late 1800s.The chest has a domed top, typical of this time period, and has wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim. And leather side handles. Side Leather handles are intact. This wonderful trunk has not been refurbished and is in good condition overall. None of the veneer is missing. The interior’s“restored decopage” illustrated paper lining) has a decorative floral pattern through-out. The intact original trays are all inside and structurally sound. It has 4 compartments. 2 in a removable tray and one large main compartment. The upper tray is constructed of a heavy cardboard type material. The main compartment is accessible by lifting the sides of the top tray. The trunk has 4 wheels ... moreto assist moving the trunk. Dimensions are 31" L) x 17" W) x 13" H) Former owner's name has been stamped on the trunk lid and on the back of the trunk. The leather handle on one side is cracked and broken. On the other side it is missing. There is no key. There is one piece of metal hardware missing above the lock. There is a removable wood insert that rests in top of trunk. Exterior shows surface marks, scuffs, aged patina from use. Metal hardware has paint wear and some areas of surface rust where paint is worn off. Bottom underside of trunk has several areas where outer surface material is cracked, see pics for condition. Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Trunk with Working Lock and keys Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we have refinished for the past 8 years. We have refinished hundreds of trunks. Each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice, clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed the canvas from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the canvas we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil as a finish. After much research we have found that by using tung oil, ... morenot only does it not leave such a strong odor as other finishes, but it also penetrates the wood preventing the wood from drying out so quickly. On this trunk are two new Amish leather handles. You will the original lid stay to help keep the lid open. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look and repainted the metal black. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. It would also make an excellent wine rack. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. It could also be used by a college student. It could also be used as a blanket chest. Antique 1910 EXCELSIOR Storage Wardrobe Steamer Trunk Leather 42" x 23" Yellow
Early Vintage Travelling Storage Wardrobe Steamer Trunk dates back to about 1910. 42" tall X 23" wide and deep. Cured genuine leather stretched over a sold wood frame. Yellow in color with a nice patina. All edges and corners protected by brass plating. There are 6 functioning ball type wheels on the bottom which allows the user to roll the trunk while flat. And an additional 2 functioning wheels allow the user to roll the trunk while standing on end and towing with the leather handle(picture shown) All metal edges do have some wear but this gives the trunk a great look. The locking hardware is functioning. And is stamped EXCELSIOR#4230 Made in Stamford, Conn USA. Excelsior began making this lock in 1910. Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk with Working Lock and key. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks. Each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice, clean refinished dome top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the metal we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes ... morethe wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. On this trunk are two new Amish leather handles. The latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The latches have the patent date of July 9, 1872. The lid of this particular trunk also has the original manufacturer label in great condition. Also on the lid there is trunk stay to keep the lid open when wanted. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. We have also made a tray to fit the inside of this trunk so you have two levels of storage. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look along with painting the metal black. The trunk is a traveling garment trunk manufactured by"BAL" of New York(see photo of plaque) The knuckles and catches on the outside of the trunk are heavy duty cast iron. The lock in the center is in good working order and comes with two keys. The left side of the interior is comprised of seven drawers that are 21" wide and 5" to 8" tall. The drawers are 12" deep. Also on the left side among the drawers is a small 5" x 5" safe(key missing) The right side of the interior is for garments. There is a pull out garment rack that hangs from the top. Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk Excellent Condition
This is a refinished antique steamer trunk. The age is estimated to be late 1800's to early 1900's. The manufacturer is unknown. But the lock is a Yale and Towne MFG Co. Stamford, Conn. It has all of the original hardware. There is new leather straps and handles, as well as all new nails. The canvas has been refinished as well. The inside is a red mahogany stain. The tray is missing and there is no lock. The trunk looks fantastic and would be a great piece for the house. The trunk measures 33" Long x 22" Tall x 18.5" Deep.

This is a totally retro early 20th century wardrobe trunk. Which makes a perfect coffee table. It measures about 40" x 22" including the handle) and is about 15" deep when closed. I'll mostly let the pictures do the talking, but you can see how sturdy it is, and it comes with four drawers on the right side and room to hang your clothes and store your valuables and toiletries on the left. The manufacturer's diamond-shaped tag says"Dependo, Petersburg, Virginia" in the center; Independent Trunk& Bag Company" across the top; and"Dependable Luggage" along the bottom. It is in used and worn condition. Both inside and out, and, more specifically, it has the initials"H.M.M. in red paint on one end; the carrying handle is missing(from the same end) and the lock has been busted off. The lock ... moreis included, but separated and stuck in the closed position. It is numbered"912" and marked"Akinson& Long Mfg. Co. Everlasting Lock, New York, NY. We don't have the key for it, in case you hadn't already guessed. Because our trusty bathroom scale tells us it weighs more than the postal limit of 70 pounds. We are advertising it as"local pickup only" and we are in Cornish, Maine. However, if you really want it shipped to distant parts, then e-mail us and we'll see what we can negotiate. Based on weight and dimensions, we know that commercial shipping companies will charge an arm and a leg(at least) but if you want to do your own research, let us know what you find. We would, of course, entertain requests for delivery- subject to a mileage reimbursement- within a reasonable radius. Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk Embossed Tin Covered Floral Pattern Victorian
A sweet Victorian style antique steamer trunk from approximately the late 1800's. It measures 28" long X 17" wide x 22' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) It's covered with a dark red/ dark rust colored floral patterned embossed tin and the tin is in very nice condition. It has a dome top with hardwood slats that are held in place with brass tacks. It has the remnants of a chromolithograph on the inside of the lid featuring a child holding a kitten but it's in poor condition. The trunk used to be lined with paper but most of it has worn off over the years. The bottom of the trunk has 3 plain hardwood slats running across the bottom over black tin and there are 4 small wheels(one on each corner) that make it easy to move around on any flat hard surface. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are ... moreno moth ball odors. Just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. The black banding on the lid sides needs repair and the hasps on the front do not close tightly because the lid does not fit properly. The leather handles need to be replaced and the original wood tray is missing. The locking mechanism in the center is very plain and it appears to be damaged. Please view all of the photos, they are an important part of the description. This decorative old trunk could be a worthy restoration project which will allow you to add additional storage to you home. There are several sites on-line that offer free advise on how to restore antique trunks and the majority of them sell the parts you'll need. Antique Louis Vuitton steamer trunk with Civil War history
You are bidding on an authentic Louis Vuitton steamer trunk. Serial# 40294, purchased per Louis Vuitton France, around 1892. All materials are original except for the lock. The top leather strap is missing. There are a few tears on the rear of the trunk. Truck dimensions are 36 inches wide x 20 inches deep x 21 inches high. The ends of the trunk are personalized by a red trefoil with"New York" written within and the initials"A.S.W. written below. The red trefoil is the regimental symbol of the Army of the Potomac, II Corps, 2nd Division. The trunk belonged to General Alexander Stewart Webb, Medal of Honor winner at Gettysburg, and later president of the City College of New York for 32 years. My grandfather was the caretaker of Ventfort Hall(an estate in Lenox. MA built by the Morgan family and later occupied by the Roscoe Bonsal ... morefamily) My grandmother was a domestic at Springlawn(a neighboring estate in Lenox, MA) built by John Alexandre. For your bidding consideration today. We have a rare antique child or doll size antique steamer trunk, just like the big ones! The trunk is made of wood, with a tweed looking covering on the outside. This trunk stands up like the larger ones,with drawers on one side, and the opposite side has the lift top,with a hanging bar underneath. It has a center lock, and two side closures. The center lock is marked USA EXCELSIOR STANFORD CONN. The drawers have wood sides, and I think heavy cardboard on the front, back and bottom. They have a leather pull on each drawer. It is rare to see a trunk made this way in this size. The piece measures 22" tall, and 10.5" wide and deep. There are some spots, on the bottom if you had the piece standing up, on the outside and inside, maybe water damage, I don't know. There is scattered spots on the ... morehe outside, and I have not attempted to clean them. There is some rust on the hinges, and bumped corners that show the wood, and the leather handle at the top is missing. All in all, a very nice collectible that would be great in a children's room, or could be used for a doll display. It weighs almost 10 pounds before packing. Vintage MADLER KOFFER Steamer Trunk German. Circa 1914 DESCRIPTION: A World War I era steamer trunk manufactured by a company that is considered to be the German Louis Vuitton when it comes to quality of workmanship. Moritz Madler Co. of Leipzig. Germany was the largest trunk maker in Germany and patented this trunk style with the narrow wood slats and canvas covered wood body. 39" x 22" x 18. Has the owner's initials, H.B.G. printed on the top. Exterior is varnished canvas with a great patina. Interior is white canvas, all intact. Four canvas straps have MADLER embroidered on them. Corners have brackets for an interior shelf(not present) CONDITION: Please see photographs. I actually salvaged this one last week from the side of the road. It had been rained on the night before. So there is some water staining of the interior ... morecanvas, and it has a slightly musty smell that has improved as it's aired out. It's completely dry now. Overall in sturdy shape, r etaining original varnished and painted surface. Framed with original bentwood supports. One leather handle is missing, the other is broken. In the late 1870s-1890s, a large fancy round top trunk became popular, because it was used by the wealthier people visiting the spas and racetrack at Saratoga Springs, New York. The Saratoga Trunk was a very large, domed top style with fancy trim, covered in either leather or metal. Early trunk catalogs and ads describe Saratoga trunks as a"large round top of the highest class" Round top trunks(also called humpback. Camelback. Monitor top, and barrel top) were made in a wide range of sizes and coverings. It is believed that the round tops were made for those who wanted to try to have their trunk packed on the top of baggage cars, so they would not be damaged. Side Leather handles are intact. This wonderful trunk has not been refurbished and is in good condition overall. None of the veneer is missing. Large Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Manufacturer's Tag. Straps& Buckles, and Original Interior Divided Tray Here we are offering a very large refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is signed with the brass manufacturer's tag. It says. Overland Trunk" on the brass tag and we have shown a c lose up picture of this brass manufacturer's tag. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 41 inches. From floor to top is 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 22 1/2 inches. This is one of the largest trunks we have refinished this year, and it is a true flat top with no factory arch. This trunk is made up of the original brown laminate or composition exterior with the oak outer slat boards. The exterior has been given three coats of polyurethane by Minwax ... moreto preserve and protect the exterior. The metal parts on this trunk are not brass, except for the manufacturer's tag, and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk originally had a pair of leather straps which have eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. These straps are functional and when buckled, they help secure the trunk's top to it's base like the front latches do. The front latches are original and do work properly since the springs are intact. The edge banding and two bands running up the front and across the top are not metal. They are a pressed composition and we have left them in their brown color. This trunk comes with the original lock. It appears to be all intact. We were not able to match up a key. If you do match up a key, it does appear that this lock will work. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Antique Scottish Crescent Arch Top Stamped Tin Steamer Trunk Chest 1850's
A Quite Uncommon Crescent Top Stamped Tin on Wood Steamer Chest dating from the 1850's. This Unique Chest has been in one family since they came over from Scotland in the 1850's. Our belief is that it was made in London based on the construction technique and the stamping of the tin. We obtained it from a lady who was 87 years old and she stated that it was passed down from one family to the next over the years and as nobody in her family wanted it. She decided to sell it. The Chest measures 27 1/2" long by 14" wide and stands 17 1/2" in height. Condition is quite good considering its 160+ years of age. Some small surface rust, a musty small inside, one bottom corner of the tin has a small bend, paper lining worn, no key for the lock(we did not attempt to force it) normal wear, and one latch missing is just about it. ... moreBoth handles are present as are the very small bottom rollers.
