This is a great old child's or doll's trunk that I have been using as a storage piece. It is a domed or camel hump back top. With wooden ribs. There are are black metal bands with brads across the top, corners& sides. The think wooden ribs arch across the top and around the center circumference of the trunk. The inner structure of the trunk is wood with metal overlay- probably steel. The steel has been faux treated to given a bronzed/copper look. It is original to the trunk, not added. Some scratches on the surface. The original paper trays are inside with some decals. There is a little hook which allows you to open and close the inner"door" images 3& 4. The bottom is wood. There are 4 tiny little metal rollers on the bottom to slide the trunk. The trunk measures 12-1/4" high to the domed top. 10-3/4" deep, ... more18" wide. Offering an antique trunk with domed lid. Removable divided interior tray beautifully refinished with a quality fabric, velvet ribbon and padded lid. My parents were in the antique business and bought this trunk for me almost 55 years ago and had it refinished. I only stored fabrics in the trunk. Gorgeous Victorian era antique dome-top steamer trunk. The metal sides and top of this chest are embossed with an intricate floral design that has been painted a wonderful gold color. Contrasting black metal covers the corners and edges and is decorated with braces at the corners and where it meets the oak braces. Two heavy leather handles on either side are worn and broken. Giving the piece an authentic aged fee. The metal lock and fasteners are impressed with decorative designs with an arts& crafts flair. Two of the oak slats have writing on them, which is difficult to make out. This piece is both decorative and practical for storage. It most likely dates from the late 1800's or early 1900's. Overall. GORGEOUS WHITE VICTORIAN ANTIQUE"SARATOGA TRUNK" This trunk dates from the late 1870s to 1890s. It is called a Saratoga trunk which became popular with the wealthier class for those traveling to spas and to the Saratoga Springs in New York during the Victorian Era. It was a large domed top s tylewith fancy trim. Covered in either leather or metal. Early trunk ads and catalogs describe the Saratoga as"large round trunk of the highest class. It is believed that dome tops where made for those who wanted to have their trunks packed on the top of the baggage so as to avoid damage at the bottom of the heap. The chest is covered with embossed metal which has an ornate scrolling design. Solid wood slats reinforce the wood structure and add a beautiful design. Antique Small Child's/Doll Embossed Wooden Metal Overlaid Steamer Trunk
Up for bid is an antique child's/doll wooden steamer trunk. The trunk is overlaid in embossed painted metal. The interior is covered in paper. The trunk measures 14" x 8 1/2" x 9" high. The handles are intact. Some of the nails are slightly loose especially the ones in the hinges. The locking mechanism is no longer functioning. I am not an expert but this came from a friend's mother's estate and they had quite a few trunks that had been handed down. For sale is a very large(and heavy) old steamer trunk. It has a flat top and the outside is covered in canvas and oak with a bottom strip of steel on the sides. It features ornate corner pieces. Solid hinges in good working order, 2 working latches, and a center hasp-type lock(unfortunately, no key) There is some of the original label still visible on the top and the side. At some point in its past it has had a protective coating(poly? applied to the exterior. The inside of the trunk is unfinished wood in good condition. The top removable tray is solid with most of its original paper covering still in place. The side leather handles have long rotted away. There are 4 bottom castors. Fragments of which still remain. ... moreIf you restore this trunk, then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. I polished the exterior of the trunk and the slats look even better in my opinion. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. This trunk includes the Till. It is covered in paper which is chipping and peeling. I would remove it if you restore the trunk. The edges of the trunk are leather. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is well worn and frayed. With bits missing, especially along the edges. If you restore the trunk, one direction you can take would be to strip the exterior(and interior) of the covering and simply finish the wood underneath. The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are now gone. New leather is needed there. Inside. The fabric covering is badly stained and either should be removed and the wood underneath finished, or replaced. The interior smells musty and old, but not mildewed in my opinion. VTG 1930s LEATHER WARDROBE SUITCASE / STEAMER TRUNK Coffee Table antique storage
A Vintage Wardrobe Trunk from the 1930s or thereabouts. Made of a rich chestnut leather. With brass fittings and a canvas interior. A wonderful item that would make a great coffee table. It's very solid and quite heavy. Made by American firm Leed's Tested Travelwear. This particular style is known as a'wardrobe suitcase' And came about in the 20s and 30s. When ship travel was giving way to air travel, and clothes also became less bulky and so smaller luggage was sufficient. It's a hybrid between the classic wardrobe trunk, and a suitcase, but still having the sections and hanging facilities of a wardrobe trunk. Hartmann’s version was called a“Tourobe. And Wheary’s a“Wardrolette" and they are designed to fit under a"Pullman" berth, in the sleeper car of a train. It has handles on two sides so it can carried ... moreeither horizontally or vertically. It has removable dividers inside. Making different sections, and canvas covers that fix in place with poppers. In the lid section there are two metal fold-out rods, made to take hangers. Height: 29.5 inches Width: 20.5 inches Depth: 9 inches Condition Grade PRISTINE/PERFECT- as new with no signs of wear or flaws EXCELLENT- previously worn or used with no notable flaws VERY GOOD- Worn with minor noted flaws. Needs no repair, useable GOOD- visible wear. Noted flaws, light repair required or optional FAIR- numerous noted flaws. Needs repair, may not take repeated use POOR/CUTTER- damaged beyond repair. Study piece only, not useable Condition report: Overall this is in remarkable condition for an item of this age. My last few photos show examples of the kind of wear. But don't show every single flaw. The outside has a few dents. Scrapes and marks, but nothing significant, see pictures 8, 9 and 10. The canvas covers on the inside are slightly coming away from the edges. And there are a handful of rust spots here and there on the canvas, see picture 11. This trunk measures 34" in length. 22" in height, and 19" in width. The colors are a dark teal blue and the floral tin inlay is a silver. It may have been painted this way. Antique VICTORIAN STAGE COACH STEAMER HALF TRUNK WITH TRAY All Original Small Wonderful ca. 1880 half size steamer or stage coach trunk with tray. It measures approximately 25” wide. 19” deep and 20-3/4” high. There are no marks identifying a maker. One end has black painted initials“H.R. The lock maker is identified on the lock as“Yale& Towne Mfg. Co. Stanford, Conn. U.S.A. and carries their logo. There is no key included. It is being sold as found and untouched. The canvas cloth covering shows typical wear from use but overall in good shape. There are no cracks to any of the wood strips. All of the hardware is present and in good shape. The leather handles are both present and in decent shape. The lid holding bracket is present but not secured in position. The interior tray is missing its lid and the cloth covering shows some wear from ... morethe years. It’s all original and has great character. All it really needs is a key. Here pictured is an antique barrel-top steamer trunk. Measures approx. 37" across. 21.5" back-to-front, and 25" high(from base to top of barrel arch) Made of vertical slats(approx. 1.75" wide) Has a compartment inside the lid. Two(2) Railway Express Co. stickers grace one end. Casters(original, I believe) on bottom. The amber glass coasters seen in the photos are NOT the casters; the amber glass coasters are there just to keep the trunk off the rug, but you can have them, if you like) One leather strap is missing; the remaining one is intact, but split. The lock is by Eagle Lock Co. Terryville, Conn. USA, but there is no key, sorry. The interior needs some work, as you can see. The exterior has been preserved nicely; oiled but NOT painted. Measures 31 1/2 inches across by 22 inches deep by 19 inches tall. It has Goyard's famous chevron canvas. And is signed in all of the expected areas; Lock, clasps, interior label and side handles. Condition: The trunk is in sound structural condition. The leather trim is in very good condition throughout. There are seam lines showing through on the top lid. And there is some small missing pieces of canvas as well. It has it's share of bumps and bruises, but shows remarkably well for a trunk found in a closed guest house. What an awesome piece of history this thing is! It's in great shape. Considering its age and that it's probably traveled around the world. There is no key but I'm sure you can get a locksmith to figure that one out. 21" x 12" x 35" and ready for travel. Or as a display piece. Both handles are still in great shape and the hinges are all holding strong and intact. This is not a family heirloom so I do not know the history of it. CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING DISTRESSED LEATHER ANTIQUE STEAMER TRUNK WITH FITTED INTERIOR Early 20th Century Item# 120010ETQ02 Full of character and the warmth of age. This is attractive distressed leather trunk from the first quarter of the 20th Century is a truly charming decorative piece. These are quite versatile pieces, originally designed to carry luggage, but today used flexibly in the home as a decorative piece in the living room as an incredible strike point coffee table in front of a large leather couch. As the side table between the sofa and another chair, as an end table behind a low sofa- possibly with a setup similar to the image above. The present example is a fine work that would originally have been prohibitively expensive, crafted of thick ... morecowhide leather covering the entire surface of the exterior and interior of the trunk, the exterior surfaces still fully original with a fine worn and distressed appeal. The straps are replaced, along with the handles along the sides, allowing this to be a more functional and sturdy piece. It is remarkably heavy, but with the replaced handles it is not a difficult piece to move around the home. It rests over small caster wheels, allowing it to roll if necessary. If you open the lid. The fitted interior is a complex formation of interlocking boxes and compartments, still retained though overall in rough visual condition. The opened lid has it's own compartment, held in with two brass slides that lock in on the right and left- this flips down for a large storage box. On top of this is an old torn label, presumably from the retailer of the trunk, noting" Baier" as the establishment at 26 South Second Street in St. Louis. Fabulous! Gorgeous! This steamer trunk is just magnificent. In excellent condition though a little dirty from age and use. Wooden frame is wrapped in a black painted canvas. Drawers are wrapped in yellow canvas except where the floral fabric is present. Drawers are wood! The chest has brass or brass plated heavy duty rounded corners. The strapping is some form of inflexible metal. Steel perhaps. The leather handle is missing one end and does slip out. But w 85% of handle present the handle could be duplicated w authenticity to original design! Emblems are beautiful! Shiny and detailed. L.W. is painted and bright in a classical shadow block font. The lock outside works as does top drawer lock! Original keys. All hinges and seaman are solid and tight. Trunk is in excellent functioning condition! The laminated hangers are included! This is a beautiful Original 1877 Victorian Dome Lid Steamer trunk. It was refurbished at some point, It came from a very well cared for estate. it measures about 34" Long, 19" Wide, and 25" Tall, I don't have the key, the lock says 1877 as shown, it is missing 1 caster on the bottom, it does show some slight staining as shown on the front, not really noticeable, this is over 130 years old, a very nice piece. The bottom looks to be in beautiful condition as well. She hated to part with it but had no room in her assisted living facility. It is a beautiful camel back steamer trunk in original condition. It is an amazing piece of history and an incredible antique with an awesome look. There is hardly any rust except on the bottom and very minor. ANTIQUE LARGE VICTORIAN STEAMER TRUNK– ESTATE ITEM. A very nice. Well-cared for, large antique Victorian steamer trunk from the late 1800s.The chest has a domed top. Typical of this time period, and has wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim. And leather side handles. Side Leather handles are intact. This wonderful trunk has not been refurbished and is in good condition overall. None of the veneer is missing. The interior’s“decopage” illustrated paper lining) has a decorative floral pattern through-out. The intact original trays are all inside and structurally sound. It has 4 compartments. 2 in a removable tray and one large main compartment. The upper tray is constructed of a heavy cardboard type material. The main compartment is accessible by lifting the sides of the top tray. The trunk is very nice and is ... morevery much in original condition. The leather handles are intact and in their original condition. The trunk has the original hardware but the main lock has no key. There are two side clasp closures to the right and left of the center lock. There are 4 small intact wheels on the bottom of the trunk to ease movement. The wheels are in good working order. The trunk has no major dents or damage. There are a few minor dings but they are not very noticeable and they do not distract from the beauty of this trunk. The interior is aged and is in untouched and unrestored condition. It is quite lovely with only a tiny 1 inch repairable tear in the decorative paper lining. There are n ice embossed designs on the tin work on sides. Top, front& back. The Trunk/Chest measures 31.5 inches long 18.5 inches wide and 21.5 inches tall providing over 7.4 cubic feet of interior space. Weighs about 50-60 lbs. Antique c1860 Jenny Lind StageCoach Steamer Trunk Domed Top
This is a beautiful antique Jenny Lind Civil War Era Pine Stagecoach Steamer Trunk dating to around 1860. The trunk has a domed top with front to back metal banding and brass studs and hardwood horizontal slats. The trunk has its original steel lock. The trunk has provenance with the name in Braille on the bottom left of the lid. It is J. Bagnall& Sons. The Trunk was made in England from 1850- 1860. The back hinges and side leather straps are not original but do have some age. PLEASE NOTE: the brass cap on the left side of the lid is missing in the photo but I do have it and will be returned to the trunk. The trunk maintains its original pine planks on the bottom. Ladycomet Refinished Flat Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Straps&Key
Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Working Lock& Key Here we are offering a nice refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is a true flat top with no factory arch. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 20 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/2 inches. This lovely trunk is made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. There are plenty of older distress marks on this trunk. This includes some older nicks and dings on the wood in various places along with a couple of small holes in the metal in a few spots. These markings have accumulated over time and are what gives the trunk some of it's antique appearance. We ... morehave the original signed working lock in place on this trunk. It is signed. Corbin Cabinet Lock Co New Britain" We did match up a key that does work with this lock. This one originally had leather straps with buckles that had eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles in the same location where the original ones once were. The front latches are also original and work properly since the springs are intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the inside of this lovely trunk, we have finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. We added a nice trunk maker's style picture of a Victorian girl holding her pet cat which has been applied to the underside of the top. There is a stress crack running along the back of the trunk that we did have to glue to ensure strength in this area. We also remounted the hinges that hold the top in place since they were loose. Going to the exterior bottom underneath this trunk, we had to replace the two bottom slat boards. We also installed a set of four metal glides, one at each corner.
