Shown is a vintage chased brass mounted and dovetailed rosewood jewel box from China. Measures 10" by 6 3/4" by 5 3/8" and weighs over 2.5 Kg. The box is in the form of a cabinet raised on feet with two doors opening to an interior with 4 drawers and with one drawer below. The lock is present but the eyelet on the left door is gone. The left door has a surface crack on the upper left. In good. Used condition, consistent with its vintage normal and expected wear is present as shown. This is a hand carved J.L George wood trunk. The inner inscription reads J.L. George 895 Avenue Rd. Tel 34732 Chinese beaux arts carving furniture in wood. Carving furniture in jade stone. Carving furniture in brass. Carving chest. Made in China. I believe it is from the late 1800's or early 1900's. A friend of my father's brought this back from a trip he took to Shanghai in 1929. The exterior has some exquisite hand carving as shown in the photos. It is in great condition. The top does have some fading. As if it sat in the sunlight for a period of time, and some minor scratches. Please see photos. It measures 20 inches wide, 21 inches tall, and 40 inches in length. The brass hardware is all in excellent condition. The interior seems to be in exceptional shape, with the only blemish being some mild buckling up of the wood on the ... morebottom, in one area. In 35 years as a antique dealer(now retired) I have never seen a better example of a miniature french chest. This chest is an exact copy of a fine 19th century chest with serpentine front drawers. There are five total drawers with fine starburst motif of inlay parquetry on the front-The entire piece is correctly banded in kingswood-Mahaghony and I believe tulipwood as done in larger pieces-The sides are banded in various veneers and also banded in the correct manner-The top is the original marble with three very old repairs that look like marble veining but are repairs-In my opinion these repairs almost compliment its charm and authenticity- The interior woods are oak which are correct for french cabinetry and dovetailing hand cut methods are ... morepresent-Measures 10 inches long and 6 inches deepand 81/2 tall. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese Edo to Meiji Era c. 1860's-1870's antique kimono and clothing tansu made of kiri(paulonia) wood which was. And still is, prized for its humidity repellent properties as well as it's comparatively light weight which allowed"even a lady" to move her tansu around(this was very important in an age where furniture was modulated according to the seasons) Dramatic double doors dressed with heavy iron hardware swing open to reveal a roomy cabinet housing 2 spacious drawers for kimono or clothing and 2 smaller drawers for accessories and valuables. Hidden behind the ... morelower small drawer is a a little secret box-like drawer where the tansu owner would have stashed their valuables. The metalwork featuring a central ivy shaped mon circled by a metal plate, horizontal and vertical strapping and a multitude of stapled hinges are a fine example of mid-1800's Kanto region period design and crafstmanship, as are the inner drawer square cut lock plate and beautifully draping handles. The inner drawers, protected for one and a half centuries by the double doors, are remarkably well preserved. Overall the wood has a beautiful grain and silky smooth feel to it. It has a bonus feature on the bottom: calligraphied writing that is undoubtedly the signature of the original craftsman or workshop(unfortunately I can't make out what it says as it is old hand writing) Kannon Biraki tansu derive their name and inspiration from the double doors of temples where the Buddhist deity Kannon was enshrined and are iconic of Edo to Meiji Era tansu design from the Kanto region(the area around the capital Edo. Beautiful Antique toy box. It has a few places if you look the girl has a scratch on her face. But it isn't deep. The back edges both are coming up a bit. And it has a small spot on the very front left of it as well as something on the front right that looks like a possible ink pen spot, but I'm not sure. And, lastly from what I've seen the bottom right has two small spots on it where the vinyl has come off a bit. You should be able to see all of these spots by looking at my pictures. I want you to know what you are buying. But, even with these little imperfections this is a really nice piece. I won't let it go too cheap because I know it's really nice and you can't just go down the street and find another one easily. The chest is walnut and zebra wood. It has four large drawers and two hanky drawers. The beveled mirror has minor pitting commensurate with age. Original Bakelite pulls are intact. No casters. American Federal Period Red Painted Chest of Drawers Connecticut c. 1780-1800 Item# 120102ZMP25 This is a rather fine American Federal Period Red Painted Maple Chest of Drawers. Almost certainly Connecticut c. 1780-1800. It is an absolute work of art with a somewhat early and crusty red and black painted surface over the maple primary woods. The broad single board top projects over the case, finishing in soft molded edges of the solid over four graduated drawers. Each drawer features original hand cast batwing hardware and faux-keyhole escutcheons with numerous layers of original and later paints- one picture below shows a faux-keyhole escutcheon removed from the case, depicting the gritty surface behind it as well as detailed closeups of the back of the hardware. Each drawer is hand dovetailed with broad and rough dovetails. The drawer frame ... moreand bottom crafted of white pine. The bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the frame, and each drawer bottom is nailed at the back, though many nails are later with only a few originals. Each drawer is divided by drawer blades that through-dovetail into and through the side of the case and backed by pine drawer runners nailed inside the case with rose head iron nails(one drawer runner top right replaced) The bottom of the case is uniquely designed. Sliding into rabbets in the sides of the case along the entire bottom, locking at the front with an exposed through-dovetail. The top, likewise built to last, is joined at the top with a sliding dovetail joint that allows the top to expand and shrink easily without causing cracking or pressure. The back of the case features two board construction, one board being incredibly wide at 20" the second board being 13" wide with a soft ovular flow between the back feet. Antique mahogany/veneer dresser chest made in East York. Pa circa early 1900's, by the Home Furniture Company. Pennsylvania Dutch style with hand carved legs and accents. 55" tall x 40" wide x 20" deep. 6 drawers with the top drawer being divided into thirds. All drawers are hand dove tailed. This is a beautiful piece but could use a little tlc. Has minor dings and scratches and veneer on sides has some warpage on side, all to be expected from being from the early 1900's, we think before 1920's. There are three ornate hinges on the back. It is a very heavy piece that is 9 inches in width and close to 3 inches in heigth It is has deep purple velvet on the inside and is all intake but is faded in some spots. There is carved brass ornate designs on the top of the chest that has flowers and vines. In the middle on the top there is a mirror image of triangular brass designs with flowers leaves and designs. The bottom has five felt pads to keep from scratching your furniture or the chest. It is hand made and varnished with lots of work put into it. The sideboards come all the way through the case to the form the outline for the feet, typical of Pennsylvania Furniture made around 1789-1790's. This chest has been restored. Antique Miniature Lane Cedar Chest 1938 Dated
Miniature Lane Cedar Chest dated 1938 with the name of the High School girl who received it for graduation. This is one of the harder to find Miniature Lane Cedar Chests with the upright. Rounded corners containing 3 grooves. These chests were often given go stores that sold the Lane Cedar Chests and those stores would then pass them on to graduating seniors. This chest is in very good condition overall. It does have some nicks and scratches in it. However the finish is intact, no splits, cracks or chips in the wood. All the seams and joints are in excellent condition with no damage to them either. Lock is intact and even the wooden feet on the bottom(a rare option on these miniature chests if you look around) are 100% complete. Chest even has it's original hinges inside the lid, another rare feature as the majority of these have them ... moreon the outside. On the inside of the chest there is a black stain running along the bottom edge and also a large white stain. All of this is shown in the photographs. Please note: This is a used miniature cedar chest 75 years old. As such this chest does have signs of wear and tear, nicks, scratches and the stains as I've mentioned. It is not new, it shows the character of it's years, that while it is in very good condition, this chest was used and loved obviously by it's owner as it is proud to show you. ANTIQUE COLONIAL BLANKET/STORAGE CHEST Chest came from uncle howards estate.He was a local small boat builder and used this chest for special storage.We can trace the family heritage back to 1747.Part of numerious items left to family members. The chest stands 24 inches high.20 wide and 42 inches long.It is assembled with what look to be hand forged nails(see example picture)the front and ends are 1 piece boards,some age cracks but vy solid piece,imagine the tree size which created single boards this size.The back is made up of 2 boards,so suspect it was up against a wall? There is faint traces of the mustard colored paint on the ends and sides long since gone. Obtained at an estate sale. Do not know the history but it is a really unusual and a very early piece. Not sure of age but appears to be 19th century. Is painted gray all over and painted with scenes over top, front and one side. Other sides were started but not finished. On the top in the painting of the girl the date of 1948 has been painted in. On the left side someone has signed their initials. Please see photos for description. Dovetailed all over, in good condition has a split that has been repaired on the back of the lid. The inside is in great condition. Measures 18 inches deep, 34 inches wide and 16 inches tall. We are not sure if it is old red paint just a red color to whatever non-paint finish is on it. The wood itself is heavy, looks like a walnut or mahogany. It has hand dovetailing on the corners. CONDITION: There has been a repair to the right edge of the lid which also has new hinges and is warped just a bit with the back edge being higher than the rest. Antique 1800's Large Camelback/Dome Chest
This is the largest wooden chest I have ever come across. This monster is over 3 ft. wide and about 21ins. deep and over 2 ft. tall at its highest peak. This one has more fancy metal working than your run of the mill chest and is a beauty without having to refinish. I would rather have this item picked up at my house because of the size. We may be able to ship this but it will cost some money for this monster.
