Rare Antique Hide Trunk/Chest from South America
This is a rare antique leather and hide trunk or chest from the South American frontier. These were used by Gauchos to store items being carried on Llamas and by families for storing blankets and house hold items. The chest is very lightweight and has an inner rib like structure made of wood. The remainder of the chest is made entirely of hide or leather. It also has iron hardware on the front. The particular piece is from the estate of Joanne Hearst Castro; granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst. I believe it was from one of her estates in Santiago Chile. Finding these can be extremely difficult. Several antique dealers have priced the items from $1000 to well over $2500. You can see a few for sale on 1st dibs.

Alligator Embossed Steamer Trunk 1890-1910 This is a versatile and attractive trunk from the turn of the century. A solidly constructed steamer made of wood, trimmed with embossed alligator tin, and featuring a lid with only a slight arc. It’s 34 inches wide, 19 inches front to back, and 22.5 inches tall– a perfect complement to any rustic decor. The trunk is constructed of a pine box with hardwood slats across the top and two slats on the front and back. It has new thick black leather handles and a new lid stay– otherwise in original condition. The alligator pattern has been refinished in a rich. Reddish brown that is darker than it may appear in the flash photos. Although there is no evidence of its manufacturer. The hand painted exterior finish has deteriorated over the 25 years it has resided in our 1810 Colonial. It needs an artist to bring back the originally vibrant rainbow of colors in preservation. There is an ornate brass handle on two sides. The fancy Brass bands on the lid are marked with a Daisy at the Center on each band. The metal work seems to be a combination of brass. Brass plating and some metal that might have a plated or painted finish. The cedar has a very nice color and finish, there a few marks from age or bumps to it, but overall excellent for it's age and you only see them upon careful inspection. Antique Wooden Painted Nautical Sailors Fishing Chest Trunk Box 1800's Steamer
This is an AMAZING antique fishing chest. I think it's late 1800's maybe really early 1900's. when I purchased it there was a bunch of old salt water fishing hooks and a sting ray barb& other cool stuff in it! One of the almost completely deteriorated paper boxes of hooks read 1910 on it, so I know it's at least that old. There are awesome adjustable wooden cubby compartments on the inside& spots to put a rod on the inside upper lid. In the pictures I left some of the fishing stuff in there. But its cleaned out now. There are some amazing graphics on this chest. On the top of the chest is a nautical compass reading north east south and west, on the front under the latch(which is fully functional) are the initials F.D.JR. On the right side of the chest are three flags I'm not sure if these three flags identify the ... morearea in which it was made? maybe someone with nautical knowledge will know for sure. And on the left is an anchor with rope twisting around it. Im pretty sure these are all hand painted. Or super old decals. But I'm pretty sure there hand painted. The chest appears to have a sealant on the outside. Which I'm sure they would have done to help protect it from salt water. There are no major cracks in this chest. I have put no chemicals on it to clean it. Just a damp rag. Now a couple down sides to this beauty: the back hinges have rusted and broken.see pics) and on the sides it looks like there were a couple ropes screwed in to keep it on board? That are gone. And a few cracks on the bottom. The chest measures 22" long X 10 1/2" wide. And sits 8" tall. If there are any questions please feel free to ask& I will answer them best I can. American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers. Pennsylvania Late 18th Century c. 1770-90 Over Ball and Claw front feet Item# 130204PTP08 This is a fine American Chippendale Walnut Tall Chest of Drawers. Crafted in Pennsylvania during the height of the Chippendale Period c. 1770-90. The construction of the chest is dominated by an unusual joinery, almost certainly placing it in the shop of a rural craftsman somewhat removed from the influence of the trade. Most tall chests in this form of the period are joined using a thick poplar top dovetailed to the sides of the case, backboards that are chamfered into the top and rosehead nailed in orderly grids, the rear foot supports often a separate triangular secondary wood bracing the rear foot facings, the bottom board thick poplar faced by a generous blade of solid walnut and will rest over bold ... moreand large ogee bracket feet; rather atypical, the top board of this chest dovetailing to the sides of the case is somewhat thin(and was supported with an added top board as a result) the backboards"nailed" to the chest using wooden pegs secured in orderly grids, the stiles(or right-most and left-most backboards) extending down as the braces of the rear foot facings, the bottom board a thick poplar plank that was faced by a 1/16" thick strip of walnut veneer around all sides and resting over rather unusual(but fully original) front ball and claw feet and odd bracket rear feet. The use of the veneered strip around the bottom is almost an afterthought, suggesting that the craftsman changed his approach late in the design; he may originally have been planning the gadrooned molding as the finishing for this edge, but realized that this would leave little room for strength in the ball and claw feet. The decision process around it is certainly open to speculation, but in any event is certainly a depiction of a craftsman who was not familiar with designing this form. A barrel shaped drawer tops three smaller drawers. All finely dovetailed. The wonderful pressed glass knobs are original and add a little sparkle when the light hits them. The lower drawers are designed to open only when the top drawer is opened. When the top drawer is locked the entire case is secured.I do have the very nice steel& brass key) The face of the drawers is veneered in flame mahogany. The sides and top are solid woods. Antique - Ice Block - Refrigerator Chest -early twentieth century
Hoosier Style Ice Box Refrigerator in very good condition. This cabinet was painted once with latex paint. And while it sat in an storage unit for several years most of the latex paint flaked off revealing its original green paint. 1920-1930 Antique Thomasville Vanity & Chest of Drawers
Collectors Set- Family Heirloom Chest& Vanity has been in one family since the 1930's and may predate that time. Handled gently. The Thomasville Emblem can be found inside some of the drawers. A. I. Namm& Son in Brooklyn. NY was the largest department store in the United States when this was purchased for a toy chest around 1900. As the photos show, it has wicker trim on the sides and top that was covered originally by fabric- note antique decorative tacks. No rot, sturdy wood handles and feet, hinged, it is a nice size and can be used: 29" wide x 14 3/4" high x 14" deep. Label as pictured says"A. I. Namm& Sons. I purchased this set at an old Denver Estate auction. It was made in 1940 by Wm Rogers Mfg Company. It is a used set and I would say it is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Some pieces look unused while others have some normal use to them. I noticed a couple of forks have knife marks on the back tips of the Tyne's where a knife was used to cut food against them. No dents. Dings or silver loss. The flatware is in it's original chest, which is in good shape on the inside but the outside shows its age. Could be refinished. This is a great 73 year old set that will still impress your friends and family, even after all this time. This is a beautiful antique Chinese camphor wood trunk from the 1940s made of excellent quality and construction. It is of good size and measures 21x40 inches on the bottom and 23 inches in height. As you can see every side has a paneled appearance which is quite unique. To do this panel work took a lot of additional time and effort. Much more so than a typical trunk with no carved decoration. The interior has great top quality brass work which includes the hinges and the lid bar, pictured. IT also comes with one pull out tray for convenience. There is a brass Asian lock on front, it even comes with a Chinese style lock which ... moreis quite unique compared to American locks. The interior is all camphor wood which keeps moths away from destroying wool clothes. The exterior almost seems like mahogany but i believe it is stained camphor wood or similar chinese wood made to look like mahogany. I have seen a number of camphor trunks in my time but this is really one of the finest quality trunks i have seen from the Asian market. It is in super original condition with a clean finish. We would prefer that the winning bidder pick this up in person but we know that is not always possible. There are 2 ways of shipping this which is blanket wrapped by a freight company, we can recommend a couple of people for this.
