This Roos chest was made in Forest Park. ... moreIL. The chest is made of Claro Walnut, Striped Walnut and Black Walnut. The inside of the chest is aromatic Red Cedar. The cedar chest is still quite aromatic, it has a special sealite lid to prevent the escape of the protective cedar fumes. The chest measures 47-1/4" long, it is 23" tall and 18-1/4" deep. It has a cedar tray on the inside which is 10" deep. The cedar chest is in excellent condition, the wood is rich and it gleams. On close inspection it shows a few vintage scuffs, mainly where the back edge would rub against the wall when opened, but nothing outstanding and it shows no abuse. The inside looks like new. There is a lock on the chest but I do not have a key. This chest comes from a smoke free and pet free home. It is clean and ready to use. Buyers are welcome to ask for other forms of payment. Here we have an incredible hunter green wardrobe trunk made by the Dread-Naught Luggage Company of Petersberg. Virginia around the 1930's. The interior has been completely recovered in a stunning ivory/ cream satin fabric. It has a locking mechanism for the drawers in addition to the exterior lock and the keys are included for both. The exterior has the wear and tear you would expect for its age and the leather handle is worn and torn as well, all of which add to its antique character. The top latch is off, but we have it; someone who is handy could probably easily re-attach it. The lower latch and lock keep it securely closed without it. Antique 1860's Stage Coach Wagon rare trunk leather brass nails old chest
Selling this rarely found stagecoach travel trunk from circa 1860 that has been refinished. The leather of the top of the trunk had shrunk to the point where it could not be reattached to the sides so I covered it with a black buffalo hide that is thick and comfortable to sit on. I think the results are pretty good.There is a minimal color difference between the old and original leather. Every brass nail is original to this trunk. Because the original leather could not be reattached to the top. I built a wooden seat, added some padding and covered it with the new hide. It functions perfectly as a seat. The interior of the trunk has a small door. It is through this small door that users would store their laundry. There is some available space to store some small items. The leather on the bottom. The sides on the top and bottom, are original. ... moreThe dust covers on the sides are original, but the cover on the front is new, as is the lid lifter. There is a lock behind the lid lifter, but there is no key. The interior is lined with come cloth that is dirty in a couple of places. I added two stays to support the lid. Handels are original, not sure how much weight they can support. Over all the trunk's dimensions are 24 x 13 x 14 1/2. I attached a picture of what the trunk looked like before refinished it. very nice antique carriage travel trunk chest brass tacks 1827
Selling this old travel trunk/chest that I have refinished. The trunk is covered with old brass tacks. The top has a design that resembles a football along with the letters I.W. Prior to refurbishing the chest was covered in deerhide and the brass tacks shown. The interior had newspaper dated 1827. Prior to staining the wood had an almost white color to it. As a result. The Early American Minwax stain looks great on it. The trunk was treated with three coats of polyuerothane. The handles are original as is the lock. There is no key. I add the stays to the trunk. Refinished Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Straps, Key, & Tray
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Interior Tray Here is a real nice refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 21 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 16 1/2 inches. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This lovely dome top appears to be made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. Some of the boards are rough cut. lumber. These are boards that were used straight off the saw mill and still have the saw blade marks on them since they were not run through a planer. There ... moreare also some typical older character marks or distress marks on the wood which include older nicks and dings in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have some form of distress marks including these that we have mentioned. This dome top comes with the original working lock. It appears that the key hole cover is missing, although we have still matched up a key that does activate this lock. The front latches are original and do work properly since the springs are still in good condition. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The fancy slat board cap metal that drapes down over thr front from the dome top has patent dates on it. It is hard to clearly make out the date. We have shown a picture of one of these patent dates. It looks to read, Patd Mar 15(or 16) 80" referring to 1880. The side handles were gone and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. He said it was from WW1 era, I can not confirm. It is painted with a wood effect and is beautifully aged in a Shabby chic way. The inside is blue. Some of the paint has been worn off, but it all adds to its character, would look great as a coffee table or side table etc. I researched this trunk and the only others like this I could find were for sale in Europe. Here is a large antique solid wood 10 drawer chest which I believe was for prints or drawings based on the size of the drawers. Also would be great to store a relic collection in. Measures 70-3/8" long X 33-1/4" deep X 36-3/4" tall. The inside drawer measurment is 28-3/8" X 25" This chest has some deep scratches across the top& the RH side panel is an added piece of particle board because it had been mounted against something else at one time. The left side still has its original side panel. I do not have any pics of that side because its sitting against the wall& I cant move it right now to get the pics. The chest could stand to be refinished primarily because of the deep scratches on the top& discoloration on the legs. Outside of the deep scratched in the top& the added side& normal wear. Antique Trunk / Chest 30x18x20 Inches
I wish I knew more about this trunk. But I simply don't know anything about antiques. I purchased this at an impressive antique shop(south of Pittsburgh) for more than what I am listing it for. Sorry about the poor lighting in the pictures. I included the dimensions in the description. It is obviously"distressed" But other than that, very structurally sound. The only knock I could put on it is that there is a"slight fracture" in the top. It is slight though. If you look in the 3rd picture, there is a line that runs across the top from left to right. It is very fine and hasn't caused me any problems. It came like this and my original thought was to put my 60+ pound plasma TV on top of the chest. I am 100% confident it could hold that weight and there would be no problem or further fracturing. But over time, I'm ... moresure it wouldn't be good for the piece itself, so I never tried. I hope that is a good enough description. Just want you to know its there and that it didn't deter me from making the purchase. This is a beautiful chest. This bid is for a great small antique leather Chaplin's Mason's truck or chest. Marked David C. Scholl. Temple 3. Albany Oregon. The hinges are dated 1866. The handle has damage issues. Aside from that, this is in great condition considering it is nearly 150 years old. It is complete with good straps and buckles. No key for the lock. The leather is all in good condition. Just normal edge wear that is expected for something of this age. The interior is in nice clean condition. I do see one of the little metal legs on the bottom is missing. The hinges work properly. Antique German Wooden Toy Chest
According to my mom. This toy chest was handed down to my grandmother when she was a child in Germany. This would mean it has to be at least from the late 1800s if not earlier. It is in fair to good condition with marks and scrapes. It appears to still most of the original hardware. There is a beautiful heart design around the lock(see image) but there is no key. It is long gone from countless moves. Inside is a lining, and as shown by the picture, it is in pretty good shape. I am not sure whether the lining is original. It measures 22” L x 9.5” H x 12" W. Boston and New York were first linked by telephone, the Cincinnati Reds held their first game at Crosley Field, and Dayton, Ohio, had its first paved street. Harry Gerstner first started working when he left high school at age 17. He signed on as a woodworking apprentice to become a pattern-maker starting at a salary of six cents an hour. At the completion of his four-year apprenticeship, Harry received a one hundred dollar bonus and was earning ten cents an hour- top wages for a journeyman woodworker in the Dayton area. Harry Gerstner made his first tool chest while working as a pattern-maker. It took him a year to design and make. As he only spent evenings working on it.
