Mid 19th century American miniature chest with good proportions and original dry surface. This piece was found in a Memphis. TN estate attic and is sold as found. The diminutive chest measures 11 1/2" x 7 3/4" x 7" The ches t retains it's original red(now closer to brown) paint and has a beautiful dry surface. It is constructed with square cut nails. The chest is elevated on four small brass feet and a matching brass pull is found on the lower drawer. The piece has good proportions with an elegant thin overhang. Antique primitive or country blanket chest with bracket feet. Simple six-board construction with an unusual half-moon cutout to create the feet at each end. The lift top is held in place by modern steel H-Hinges and a brass finished rest that keeps it from reclosing unexpectedly. Beautiful aged red wash finish. There are large iron nails holding the chest together that look like they are handmade. This piece is in good condition. Especially considering its age. There is a split to the wood near the back of the lid as well as a little bit of separation at the joints. The nails have also come out of the wood a little bit. There are what look like water marks to the finish as well, including splatter marks on one end. The outside lid has a black silhouette of dancers. The wood is a walnut? dark stain. Not sure what is the wood. The thickness of the wood around the edges is about 5/8" The bottom panels are thin. The Crane logo by itself is extremely rare and the actual stamp is the holy grail of collectible advertising stamps. This finely made candy box with finger joint corners is in very good condition. The front brass hinge does no t appea r to be complete- but overall appears very lightly used and very well preserved. It measures 12 1/2" by 5" standing 1 1/2" Conceived in an American Arts& Crafts/ Art Nouveau aesthetic. Maxfield Parrish was commissioned in the early 1900's to do a series of these for the candy manufacturer they are today quite rare as few survived. The box is really a work of art as seen. STUNNING ANTIQUE 1926 ROOS CEDAR HOPE CHEST! The Ed Roos Company. Based in Forest Park, IL, was in business from 1916-1951 and made chests in popular styles from Edwardian to Art Deco. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. The entire Chest has wood inlay around the body. And lovely carved embellishment around the edges. Antique Oak Bathroom Cabinet Towel Bar Silvered Mirror Medicine Chest Early 1900
Very. Very nice condition. This was made by Edward Mikkelsen& Co, Chicago Illinois. The stamped image on the door says, Manufactured by EDW MIKKELSEN& CO, Chicago Ill" Edward Mikkelsen was a cabinet maker and was best known as one of the founders and craftsmen of the Automatic Machine and Tool Co in 1898 with John Gabel. He continued to make the oak cabinets for John Gabel's amusement and music machines. Including jukeboxes, in the very late 1890's and very early 1900's, even though he sold his share in the company a year after they started. Mirror has some slight scratches in the silver. But overall it is very nice considering the age. Please view the sixth and seventh pictures to get an idea of how the mirror looks. The outside looks great with minor wear. On the inside, the wood piece that holds the mirror in has ... morepulled away a bit on one side where the wood split a little(see eighth picture) Still functioning properly, though. The back appears to be pine, but I am not a wood expert. It is not oak like the rest of the cabinet. There are two additional shelves. All shelves are in very good condition, with some minor staining. The towel bar is original and is removeable. I do not know if the white porcelain knob is original or not, but would assume that it is. Cabinet is 22 1/2" high x 16 1/2" wide and 5 1/2" deep. The initials DR and the year 1798 is burned into the back board and another date appears in paint 1810 thought to be the year the chest was painted as the year is the same color paint as the painted part of the chest. Original brown paint on the top front and sides. 5 boards are ⅞ inch thick and hand planned. The back board slightly thinner and is split horizontally from end to end but not split open. The top left portion has a other split that measures about 11 inches. The overall measurement of the chest is: 22 inches ... moreWide 28 inches High Side board 22 ½ inches Wide Top board is 49 ½ inches Long Across the top front are 3 small nail or screw holes that appear to have been used to prevent the chest from being opened at some point. In spite of where they are positioned they are not particularly noticeable. The top is distressed with a few incomplete dark rings and a couple of random scrapes and irregularities in the paint. Normal and minor wear and tear for a piece of this age. Inside is clean and in excellent condition. The nails are hand wrought as are the hinges and as is the lock. Vtg Antique 1926 HAMPTON COURT COMMUNITY PLATE SILVER SET Orig Chest VICTORIAN
This chest of silverware belonged to my Grandmother Mary. And she was always saving it for really special celebrations. Etc ~ so this beautiful silverware was hardly ever used. I can only recall one time and that was when my Mother had a baby boy(after three daughters) This is the early HAMPTON COURT from the early 20s. I like the old appearance of the chest which shows the passage of time(87 years) However the Service for Six plus some Serving Pieces show practically no wear at all. Hampton Court" is a beautiful pattern ~ like a Victorian valentine. Graceful scrolls and wee bell flowers all the way down the handle(I will do my best to try to capture this delicate beauty) The back of each piece is lovely. Best of all. Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock. 2 Keys and Tray My husband and I have refinished over 100 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice refinished flat top steamer t runk. The particular d iminsions for this are 30 1/4" length. 18 1/2" width and 20 1/2" heig ht. We refinished this particular trunk by taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. Inside and out. A fter t his. We applied 2 layers of tung oil to the trunk and tr ay. After lots of research on rest oration. We have found that it is better to finish old wood ... morewith tung oil as it helps preserve the wood from drying and cracking from the inside out. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made brow n leather hand l es. We also put on a new lock with 2 working keys. Th is trunk also ha s the two original latches newly painted and working properly.Attached to the lid of this trunk is the original stay so it will remain opened when wanted. Included with this trunk is the original tray. Newly sanded and finished. Working the way down to the b ottom there are 4 original metal casters that are securely in p lace and working properly. Antique Victorian icebox lock catch hinges vintage cast brass ice chest hardware
I have a nice set of ornate Victorian Eastlake cast brass icebox hardware for your consideration. Includes three nice hinges that open and close smoothly. Measure 4 1/8 x 2 inches. A nice large surface rim lock with ornate Eastlake patterning. Hinged handle, and latch. measures 4 5/8 x 2 3/8 inches. It works nicely as well although there is no key for locking mechanism. As well, there was a repair on the right hinge pin. Looks like it was replaced with a brass pin. As the original would have been iron. There was a small amount of grinding marks where the repair was. Not very noticable but I wanted to make you aware. See last two pics closely. And a nice hard to find matching catch for latch. All are cast brass with no cracks or breaks. The back service panel on lock is iron and has a date June 28th 1887. Hard to read date. 5 pieces in this ... moreset. Nice set for renovated furniture, cabinet, or cupboard as well. Tea in early 18 Century was expensive and was drunk in the famous pleasure gardens in London and the very Wealthy of the Colonies. Early tea caddies were small and made in precious materials. All caddies carried locks on them and it was typical in the 18 th century for the lady of the house to keep the caddy key on her chatelaine around her waist. This meant the servant and butler of the house would not be tempted to try such a precious commodity. Tea caddies by 1780 began to be made in walnut. Mahogany and were often Satinwood cross banded. They began to become larger from 1784 when the hated tea tax was removed. An emergent middle class could start to take tea for the first time as the average price of tea dropped by three shilling a pound. Antique Oak Chest or Trunk c. 1800's Country Folk Primitives
Wonderful antique oak trunk or chest. Six-sided construction with molding around the bottom. Overhanging top has a raised panel inside a frame made using mortise and tenon joints. A small smooth notch has been carved into the front to allow the user to lower the lid without crushing their fingers. Sturdy wrap-around hinges hold the lid in place and interior corner-braces help keep the trunk solid. A more recent looking chain is also attached between the trunk body and lid. This piece has a ton of character and has definitely been put to use during its time. Probably dates from the mid to late 1800's Although it has some obvious wear. Including dents and dings, paint marks and other cosmetic damage, the piece is in very good condition. The entire trunk stands 17.5" tall. It is 19 1/4" wide and 31.5" long. We are offering an early antique Korean tansu chest in original finish. I am selling this from my collection. This piece is circa 1800-1900. Dimensions are: 30" high. 34" wide and 17" deep. The inside of the chest is very clean. It lifts down. The chest has handmade original hardware; the lock itself is beautiful. And has old writing on it, The hasp piece that would actually lock it, is long missing. The chest has some of the metal ornamentation missing on the bottom center. There are small tacks over all that are missing, and a slit on the plank on the top of the chest. There are scratches, and marks and general wear over all. consistent with the age of thee piece. Back is made of 2 pieces of wood and is not split. Just age seperation. The bottom is covered in old felt. CONDITION: ONE SIDE of the cabinet/chest has a center split in the wood.
