Pennsylvania Probably ... morecrafted during the mid-to-late 19th Century Item# 130102YTP18 This is a simply gorgeous American Pennsylvania Chippendale(Style) Lowboy Antique Chest of Drawers crafted in solid walnut. While every detail is careful executed in the manner of the original works. We believe this piece was actually crafted nearly one-hundred years after the period during the mid-to-late 19th Century. It features a fine two board top, the majority being a single solid plank with only the last few inches at the back being crafted of a second joined board, the grain selected carefully and quite fine. The edge has a carved quarter-round molding of the solid, scalloping at each front corner, projecting generously over the chest. Three small drawers rest above the deeply serpentine apron, each joined front and back with fine scored dovetails, the bottom deeply chamfered and rabbeting into the sides, period Queen Anne hardware on each drawer face. The apron around the entire table is noteworthy: bold. Flowing, inspiring, the overall flow of the skirt gives incredible lift to the table. It gives robustness to the form, the lines active and dancing, the table looking poised for action. The three-scrolled form of the apron matches the trifid form of the foot, almost matching it's proportional flow. The legs are carved of a single solid piece of walnut from the table top to the foot, the sides of the table tenoned into the top of the leg and pegged symmetrically before curving in bold knees over fine cabriole form. This American Chippendale Lowboy is above reproach. A simply outstanding piece for a serious collector of benchmade works not concerned with the period of craftmanship. Scottish chest, Circa 1890, Flame mahogany, Barley twist columns, Large drawers, Turned wooden knobs, Mother of pearl inlay, Age splits to top, Consistent wear throughout, One knob broken, Overall very sturdy, This flame mahogany Scottish chest of drawers was made around 1890. We purchased it in England and imported it to our antique furniture store in Atlanta. GA. This hand made chest displays all of the wonderful characteristics that make Scottish chests so popular and useful. There is a"not so obvious" drawer at the very top over three deep, serpentine front drawers over three long drawers providing a huge amount of storage. The barley twist columns on either side give some elegance to the simple lines of this chest. The drawer pulls are a turned wooden knob with a mother of pearl inlay in the center. One of the knobs is missing about a quarter of the knob, but the mother of pearl inlay in the center is intact. All drawers are joined with hand cut dovetailed joints. All of the drawers also have locks but there is no key for this chest. The top of the chest has a few cosmetic age splits and there is consistent wear throughout the chest. This wear is mainly superficial surface dings etc. Overall the chest is quite sturdy and in good condition for its age. It would make a warm addition to any home or office. The seven drawers provide a huge amount of storage space. The barley twist columns are a wonderful addition to this elegant look. The turned knobs have a mother of pearl inlay. The drawers feature hand cut dovetails. You can see an example of some of the wear around the bun feet. The top of the chest has some minor age separations. This close up better shows the minor age separations in this part of the top.

Retaining it's original oval pulls, these with roses embossed inside an infinite double loop and entirely untouched feet, this is a particularly desirable object for collectors. The concave crown molding is bold, aggressively projecting over the unembellished case of three small drawers over five graduated full drawers. The sides of the case extend through the feet, making the interior blocking of the feet an integral part of the case and something permanent- much of the reason the feet have survived in such extraordinary condition. The backboards are untouched and typical of the period with neat rows of square forged iron nails affixing the backboards to the case. Each drawer is of fine craftsmanship. The tidy hand dovetails crisp and perfect, the pine plank bottoms chamfered on the sides and front to be set in grooves along these edges; all drawers are tacked at the back edge with three hand forged nails. Protecting the contents of one drawer is a full dust board, the other drawers with partial dust boards over the first one-third. Flanking the drawers are the deeply fluted Corinthian columns with turned bases and caps so commonly found in chests of this region. As a well preserved and absolutely stunning object of Early Pennsylvania. Particularly interesting for the meld of Federal and Chippendale designs and it's very fine craftsmanship, this is an outstanding investment grade work of art that was built to last and if well cared for will last long beyond our lifetimes. The set includes a 5 drawer Chest of Drawers and a 6 drawer Dresser with its original mirror and hardware. It is some times difficult to find a set with the original mirror intact. But this sets includes the mirror and it is in good condition. The drawers have very cool sculpted wooden side pulls that are beautifully crafted. They stand out from the dresser and chest of drawers like wood carvings. Very functional art. Each drawer is solid wood and of dovetailed construction. The top is laminate. It is a wonderful retro ensemble. The Dresser works well as a buffet and the mirror is easily detached. The furniture is solid. Sturdy and not overly large. It is in very good condition with only slight wear and tear appropriate to the age of the pieces. Chest of Drawers: 18 inches wide X 34 inches across X 43 inches high. Dresser: 18 inches wide X 54 inches long X 30 inches high. Mirror: 25 X 41 inches. The furniture is available for local pick up in Houston. Texas. Condition: Used Location: Limington, United States American Federal Inlaid Mahogany Bowfront Chest of Drawers Mid-Atlantic States c. 1790-1810 Item# 120101KVP05 This is a very fine American Federal Bowfront ... moreInlaid Mahogany Chest of Drawers. Middle Atlantic States, circa 1790-1810. Crafted of solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, the golden grain flow is magnificent and unbroken. The top has an inlaid rim with stringer inlay outlines, rectangular in shape while gently bowing across the front to conform with the case. The drawers are also bowed, each with fully original oval brasses flanking original keyholes over what we believe to be original locks with ovular stringer inlay outlining each of the graduated four drawers. They are hand dovetailed back and front, with yellow pine secondaries, the bottom board chamfered to rabbet into the drawer frame and secured with glued blocking at regular intervals along the frame. Each drawer is divided by a solid mahogany bar, backed by pine secondaries that go almost the entire way through the case to form most of a dust board between the drawers. The drawer blades are hidden behind a thin piece of mahogany. Presumably covering the dovetail slot joinery. The back of the case features all original boards, many with original iron rose head nails, but re-secured with nails and screws throughout. An original yellowed hand written label is illegible, but still present on the back of the case. The chest rests over four French feet, each with just slight outward splay and entirely original blocking along the bottom. The feet are cracked along the grain, natural as the grains run perpendicular to the pine blocking, but do not in any way compromise the feet. A fine band of yellow inlay framed by dark stringer inlay runs along the bottom of the case to complete the chest. Original in almost every single aspect of the chest. This work of art is remarkably well preserved. As an investment grade antique in every aspect, this is a very fine acquisition for any serious collector of American Federal furniture. It will certainly be treasured
