Unusual Antique Arts & Crafts Flemish Sacrificial Blanket Box Pagan Cult
This incredibly unusual and mysterious piece is absolutely breath taking. It features burnt wood artwork. Characteristic of Flemish, turn off the century decorative arts, all around, on this solid pine, handmade blanket box with hinged lid. Some separation in the boards on top, but this gives the piece added character and doesn't generally devalue folk art pieces, such as this. The motif is the real stunner: a pagan gathering of men and women, playing lutes and hand drums, marching in a procession, carrying dead animals, presumably for sacrifice. The bottom of the chest depicts round flower icons, alternating with what appear to be goats' skulls. It measures 44.5" long x 15" wide x 15.5" high. Incredible piece of folk art.

Antique Blanket Chest (wooden hinge) hand crafted, hand forged nails? 6 plank
I am not an expert in antique furniture and I will try to describe the little blanket chest to the best of my ability. The measurements are 31" X 16" X 17" The exterior of the piece show wear with nicks around the base. The top was originally a solid plank but has been repaired in the past to keep the plank from cracking more. What is so unique about this piece is the wooden hinge system it has. Clearly this piece was handcrafted. On the inside you can see the panel has been tooled maybe by hand? The pins and nails used(with the exception of the newer repairs) appear to be hand forged. The bottom is removable in two pieces not sure if the two pieces were originally joined together at one time. The piece has been oiled and no other attempts have been made to restore this. I do not know the date of this item nor do I know the ... moretype of wood used in making this chest. If anyone knows more about this piece I would love to find out more information. First off the photos are terrible and does not show the true color. So it will look much better in true life. This fine little chest is all hand made with a great paint decorated pattern. Shields. The box is pine and nailed together using square nails with a few round head that are later additions. I would date this box in the last quarter of the 19th century. It has some type of a side catch to keep the top from falling back when opened, one side is broke. The finish is all alligator and adds to the great look. The proportions of the box are great in form. Box measures 13” long, 6 5/8" deep and stands 6" tall. There are 12 photos for your viewing as well as a good guide ... morefor the condition. C. 1775-1800 Item# 130002EEP16 This is a well worn and nearly untouched American Pennsylvania Chippendale Blanket Chest over Two Drawers. The interior of the lid covered in a fine woven green textile embroidered lower right"A.M.M. 1779" Likewise, the bottom of the inside of the chest bears the very faint initials and date"A M M 1779" these difficult to capture accurately with the camera and hard to see also with the eye. The underside of the lid of the till is inscribed in pencil"Hannah Britton" in a script that would suggest a somewhat early inscription by someone who owned the chest at one point. Crafted entirely of tulip ... morepoplar. Each surface of the case is crafted of a single solid unjoined board painted with a heavily oxidized brown streaked paint. The dovetails that join the case stretch from the top to the bottom of each toe, the feet becoming an integral part of the form, these well preserved and fully original. The molding around the lid, the midsection and the base are applied in the same manner, each with tiny wooden pins hammered through at regular intervals. The pair of drawers both bear pairs of replaced hardware, these inserted into the same original holes, both locks appearing to be fully original. The drawer frame is dovetailed front and back, the bottom heavily chamfered into rabbets on either side and nailed at the back in the typical manner. The interior of the chest has a later stain. While the 18th Century blanket chest is a very prevalent form. These are regularly refinished and rarely retain the original oxidized surface- even fewer also retain numerous matched inscriptions, dated and with some prior ownership inscribed on the interior. Antique Hand Painted Pennsylvania Dutch German Wedding Blanket Trunk Chest
This is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The flower painting is in pretty good shape on the sides and on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46 inches wide by 23 inches deep by 25 inches high. It has been passed down in my family for several generations. I can remember it always being in a guest bedroom in my grandparents home and they were art and antique collectors. I am in the process of downsizing and I have quite a few pieces to sell. I would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The paint is in good condition but there is some wear on the corners and edges. The interior is in pretty good shape. The boards are solid. MAGNIFICENT"MOTHER OF ALL BLANKET CHESTS" GIGANTIC DOVETAILED SIX-BOARD-BOX õ Actually I think this heroic trunk is an Indonesian Dowry Chest. Or Javanese Storage Trunk(or" Grobog" in Bahasa) To my knowledge. These were the most spectacular, titanic dovetailed chests made anywhere at any time. Each side of this chest is a single gigantic slab of Teak. Cut by hand from the giant Teak trees that once were plentiful in the region. This is the Real Deal, a now rare form, and a magnificent example. The work in this piece is astounding. Every incredibly wide board is hand-planed. Revealing the rich, dark ripple of the aged teak through the subtly faceted carving. The moldings are hand-planed into the boards. The magnificent dovetails seem almost large enough to be a log cabin, the carvings lovely and tasteful subtle coloration ... moreto the wood rich& warming. The iron work is tremendous, robust, aged, hand-forged& intense. And as was the tradition, it's on these really great, large, built-in solid teak wheels! The top slab measures an incredible nearly 25" wide by 36" long in a single slab. Overall height is about 36-1/2" There are two handy compartments inside. One the full height of the interior and one with space underneath. I've been a collector of dovetailed chests for many years& I've collected some absolute beauties. This one is about the most heroic single-slab six-board box I've seen. The Indonesian Grobog chests can be very ornately carved& painted with striking colors. Indonesia is known for its amazing tradition of woodworking and crafts. I like that this one is much more simple& plain than most. And that the aged wood is allowed to be the most prominent surface. Indonesian chests like this are getting very rare. There was a time back in the 1990's when great containers of Indonesian Antiques were being shipped over. But like the flood of large Chinese Antique chests& cabinets that seemed to crest around the time of the Three Gorg

A 19th century painted blanket chest. Dovetailed throughout, in need of restoration or display as is. The surface is very worn and dry and we believe it to be original. Working lock and key. The hinges, while old, are replacements; the lock we believe is original. There is significant damage/loss to the bun feet. Lots of dings, scratches, wear and tear. Repairs to the area around the hinges on the back of the piece. The piece measures approximately 15" tall(including 2" bun feet) 27" wide, and 14.25" deep. The width and the depth are the box dimensions- the lid is a bit bigger. We do not know the maker or the region of origin, but it does not seem like an American piece to us. Rare Vtg PENDLETON Indian WOOL Blanket 1920's Camp Trade Antique Southwest Indian Estate sale purchase of an old Indian trade camp blanket.No tag that I could find, fragments left in the bottom hem of a cotton tag. Reversible one side is darker than the other from age and fading. Has a great design, both sides of the hem lengthwise is has frayed edge with no hem it appears it was not hemmed at all but woven or stitched. The size is large at 90 by 62" squared. The colors and design are very good as shown in the pictures all Native American Indian style designs, has one hole as shown in pictures. This blanket is very old will show some signs of use and needs a wash(sold as found, no odors but some signs of use) Light weight, great to make robes and clothes or for camping. Check out this antique blanket! This is a vintage/antique Stroock buggy/horse/lap/carriage blanket/coverlet. In fair to good condition. The unique design looks fantastic both up close and far away. The original Stroock tag remains on the back of the blanket. There are some holes and wear on one edge and a corner. I've captured the most siginificant of these in the photos. There are seven holes on each side(some go all the way through, some do not. There has been no attempt to repair them. In totality, the blanket is very nice as I hope the pictures show! The back is a solid black. The blanket is clean. It measures approx. 46" x 61” Weighs about six pounds. Antique Hand Painted German Pennsylvania Dutch Chest Trunk Dowry Wedding Blanket
Beautiful Antique German Pennsylvania Hand Painted Trunk Chest For sale is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The painting appears to be on top of a gesso or tempera of sorts. The flower painting is very nice and in pretty good shape on the sides but worn on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46.5 inches wide by 23.5 inches deep by 23.5 inches high. It shows a good deal of age because it is very old. I am not certain but would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. It is possible that it is older since the joints and hardware are similar to chests claiming to be early to mid 1700s. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The iron hinges could use a little straightening. There are square ... moreand round nails holding it together. Some of the nails for the hinges have been replaced with screws. The paint is cracked and peeling and missing and dirty. The interior of the trunk shows mostly red. The lid has a label and a picture of cupids. The label in in German but I don't think it has anything to do with the origin or maker of the trunk. There is a small lidded storage compartment on the left side. The ball feet appear to be correct. One toward the back shows deterioration. There are some random areas that show past termite activity or worm holes. I am not sure. The boards are solid. Though. This trunk was just removed from a Los Angeles storage unit and needs a very thorough cleaning. I am not an expert on such pieces and welcome any details people might be able to add. It measures approx. 80" x 87" It it completely reversible, with very minimal wear if any to the fabric, no color loss or fading. It is all expertly hand done, except the on un-fringed side is sewn with a machine as shown. This can be used as a rug, blanket or tapestry because of the one smooth edge. It is my opinion that this may have been custom ordered for someone who preferred it to be used on the bed, and doesn't appear to have ever been on the floor. There are no tags on the rug, so I truly have no idea of it's age. I took it to a wonderful shop in Mt. View. Ca. and they were very helpful in identifying it as an authentic Moroccan Rug or Blanket. This is a very nice colorful Vintage antique Southwestern Navajo Indian Double Saddle Blanket. I really do not know much about it. It was purchased at an estate sale a while ago. It is approximately 21.5 inches wide and 26 inches long. the size does not include the fringe) It is nicely made. It looks handmade. But I honestly have no idea how to tell. Antique 1920s Navajo Indian Trade Post Eye Dazzler Wool Blanket Prayer Rug
Up for auction is a beautiful old Navajo weaving. All handmade with beautiful colors of red. Black, beige and tan. Striking, geometric eye dazzler pattern. Rug shows signs of wear consistent with age and use. There are a number of hand mended spots, mostly to one edge. Soiling, fading, a few small holes. Please see photos carefully for details. The tassels are worn. One small hole and some thin spots as seen in the last 2 pictures. It looks like it was made with secondary tassels which are quite rare. Very unusual design. This is one of those Navajo Rugs that is a one of a kind. A real Eye Pleaser.

Antique NAVAJO SADDLE BLANKET Native American ESTATE Old Southwestern Wool Rug
A wonderful antique Navajo rug. For a discerning collector. Top quality homespun wool. Classic striped saddle blanket. Turn of the 19th century piece. Colors from wool were hand died. Like sage brush to create the golden wheat color. Rabbit brush and small snakeweed to create the pale tan and sand colors. Also has black, light turquoise or aqua blue to accent. The weaving is solid. In great condition for it's age. No stains, holes or tears. This came from an estate of someone who had an amazing Navajo rug collection and collected them for the better part of 70 years. This piece has been in storage for the past 50 years, so there are no signs of wear! It was already old when purchased in the 1950s. It once hung on the wall. This traditional, nearly square size, in an antique saddle blanket, that's authentic Navajo are hard to come ... moreby. Plus I must say something about the artistry of this piece. It's what drew me to it. It's a personal favorite. I love the color scheme. It's neutral, with just a splash of blue color& a bit of black for a subtle yet substantial look. And I appreciate the quality, the heaviness of the piece, it's just a really beautiful rug that anyone would be proud to have in their collection. It works especially well when you are decorating a small space, you don't want a lot of junk. You want a few really good quality pieces to give a special touch to a room. Easily blends with hard wood furniture, from darker older mahogany pieces to lighter more contemporary upscale distressed ash pieces. Looks amazing hung on a wall in a man cave, library, study, or Southwestern themed room. I'm very pleased with the condition of this. There are no holes. Tears, rips, pulls, stains.
