Papoose Native Indian Doll Baby Antique Wool Blanket Buffalo Composition Head 6" This is an antique Native American papoose baby doll without tags or label. The head is plaster or composition. The back of the head is flat and unpainted and there is no longer any hair. There are few wisps of black natural hair fibers stuck to the back of the head and some of the original fabric that was probably the head band. The body of the doll is just a muslin type bag stuffed with something like sawdust and is very firm and intact. There is some blue cotton fabric still intact at the neck. The doll baby fits easily back into its wool blanket. The blanket is made like a pouch with open top and seamed edges and is in good order without holes. The blanket pattern is rather outstanding with bold red. White, blue and yellow colors and images of buffalos, ... moretee-pees and Indians in the design. It is marked Abraham Fehr Manufacturer Emaus. It measures approx. 80 inches by 50 inches. I believe it is made of wool. I would say it is in nice shape for its age. You can look at the photos and on both ends there is some wear. One ends has the ties which show some wear and the other end has a hemned end which a couple of parts show some coming undone but this is in nice shapr for its age. I have here a beautiful Saltillo Blanket. Size is 70" inches x 44" inches, made probably around the 30's or 40's- made of natural dyes and hand spun wool- the design/ Motif is a Sunflower which I have researched for many years and I have never found one similar- which makes this a rare blanket and very desirable- it of coarse needs to be restored as you can see in the pictures- that I will leave up to you- I did bring this up to the Museum of Natural History in NYC and an expert in antiquities said that it is most likely an early Saltillo Serape- he also said it was very nice even with the wear- anyway I am shipping only in the USA and please use paypal- thank you and good luck bidding.

The trunk measures roughly 46.5 inches wide by 23.5 inches deep by 23.5 inches high. It shows a good deal of age because it is very old. I am not certain but would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. It is possible that it is older since the joints and hardware are similar to chests claiming to be early to mid 1700s. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The iron hinges could use a little straightening. There are square ... moreand round nails holding it together. Some of the nails for the hinges have been replaced with screws. The paint is cracked and peeling and missing and dirty. The interior of the trunk shows mostly red. The lid has a label and a picture of cupids. The label in in German but I don't think it has anything to do with the origin or maker of the trunk. There is a small lidded storage compartment on the left side. The ball feet appear to be correct. One toward the back shows deterioration. There are some random areas that show past termite activity or worm holes. I am not sure. The boards are solid. Though. This trunk was just removed from a Los Angeles storage unit and needs a very thorough cleaning. I am not an expert on such pieces and welcome any details people might be able to add. C. 1760-80 Item# 1401CGP11PP This well preserved and highly austere American Chippendale blanket chest is clearly a work from South Central. Pennsylvania. Executed in thick walnut planks in all primary surfaces, utilizing walnut also for the back board and poplar for the bottom board, this chest was built to last for generations. The large dovetails that line all corners are bold and extremely precise, these left intentionally exposed as a statement of quality and longevity. The top is edged in a nicely formed molding, affixed with large wooden pegs along the front and joined to the sides on through tenons and tightened with a wedge driven between the tenon and molding. The ... moretop lifts on huge hand forged iron strap hinges to reveal the clean and spacious interior and small till on the left. The original lock and clasp are still fully functioning in the interior, this large lock a highly effective design that can hold the weight of the large lid without strain. On either side of the chest. Large original hand forged iron handles are conveniently attached for easy transport- identical handles are documented in Fabian's work on the Pennsylvania-German Decorated Chest(p. 94) found on a chest inscribed c. 1775. Several interesting examples in his book are also resting over the somewhat unusual"shoe" footing found on this chest; we have spent some time examining these and are convinced they are original to the chest. No other holes exist on the underside. These unmoved from their original positions. Each is affixed to the bottom with two original wooden pins, supplemented by later added steel screws(19th Century) each finished with a carved toe that is quite attractive. Antique Native American animal pelt blanket. Coyote. Finely stitched. Impressive
I purchased this beautiful blanket at a well respected auction in Shropshire. It was described as. A vintage North American animal pelt blanket, formed of multi pelts, possibly coyote, finely stitched verso, some wear and repair) I found out from talking to the auctioneer that it had come from the attic of an old house; many other items in the same sale were also from the same home, including a vast quantity of extremely old lace and some 18th century items also. I am not an expert and there is not any provenance so please take a good look and ask any further questions that come to mind. I have sought the advice of professional dealers in the U.S who tell me that it is most likely Cree and 19th century; without further provenance they cannot pin it down to a more specific region. I shall describe it as well as I can. The pelts are definately ... morecoyote, the size is 230 cmwide and 195 in length- they are extremely finely stitched with the faces at the top and neatly hemmed crenulations at the bottom- Many of the pelts have tiny, neat circular patches. The thread used is vegetable based, rather like root fibre or some kind of flax type material. There are some mends tyhat are more roughly stitched. The fur is generally in very nice condition- towards the bottom it has worn this and dreadlocked in places through wear. This is a rare and evocative item that has a great presence. Antique Lebanon County, Pa., Painted Blanket Chest Spectacular Circa 1800
For sale we have a Pennsylvania Painted/Decorated Blanket Chest of dovetailed construction. With three drawers and flat bracket feet. The arched tombstone panels on both the top surface and the front panel are dappled in a dark blue/green hue with a sunburst design in each arch. The tombstone panels are surrounded by an eye catching sawtooth design. The drawer fronts are painted in the same blue/green color and have brass pulls. The overall background color of the chest is an earthy orange. The inside of the chest reveals the original till, hinges and jaw lock. Based on comparisons in Fabian's"The Pennsylvania German Decorated Chest" this piece appears to date from 1800 from Dauphin County which is now Lebanon County. We did not"clean up" the surface of this chest leaving it in"as found" condition. There ... moreis normal wear one would expect to see, a replaced center drawer pull, and one of the strap hinges is broken. Vintage Homespun White w/ Yellow Stripes Blanket Coverlet, Wool ? Antique Cover
This what I believe is a homespun blanket or coverlet is made of 2 woven panels that are sewn together down the middle of the blanket. The overall measurement is 58 inches wide by 79 inches long and I think it may be made of wool or it could be cotton. It is a substantial blanket weighing 2 lbs.11 ounces. It has yellow stripes at both ends. It was used and I found about 7 or 8 weak spots and holes. There are some spots on the blanket and I do not know what they are or if they will come out. There is a picture with light showing through that shows some of the spots better. They are not real prominent and more difficult to see when the blanket is lying flat. It could be age. The blanket stitch on the ends has some broken or pulled spots to the yarn. The ends are hemmed and the blanket stitch serves as decoration. I found a broken thread on ... morethe salvage edge. It is hard to judge for some one else but I would judge this for myself as fair used condition and it might be a nice addition to a collection. This came from a sale and I did not try to clean it. It needs to be cleaned. I have listed other blankets and will combine shipping. Antique Linen Hand Loomed Blanket or Tablecloth. This beautiful primitive textile is made from two pieces of hand loomed linen cloth sewn together by hand and hand hemmed on the longest sides. If you remove the center seam you will have 5.33 yards(192" inches) of linen cloth measuring 35" inches wide. Found among a large lot of textiles from a three generation estate in Wisconsin. It is so beautiful to look at and I love the hand loomed weave. am not sure of the intended purpose of this piece. I suspect it was used as a blanket but could have been a large table linen. It has been carefully cleaned of all its storage discolorations and pressed. The fabrics used are all 100% Flax Linen. The overall size is 70" X 96" inches. This fabulous Indian blanket was recently found in a Maine estate. I have been told by the owner that it was Navajo made.but i am not an expert in Indian items so i am not positive of its origin. Please use your own knowledge to decide. The blanket measures 70 inches long and 60 inches wide. There is a 4 inch fringe that goes all the way around the blanket attached by a whip stitch. This blanket features whirling logs(swastikas) and other very interesting patterns. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE WHIRLING LOG OR SWASTIKA WAS AN INDIAN"GOOD LUCK" SYMBOL BACK WHEN THIS BLANKET WAS MADE IN THE EARLY 1900's. The colors are orange. Forest green, beige and black. This fabric is ... moresoft and feels like a lightweight blend of wool and cotton but i am not sure of the content. There is a round paper tag with a metal frame and loop attached to the edge of the blanket with metal staples and a cotton cloth tag that has the initials"RPW" but this blanket has no other identification. CONDITION* The condition of this wonderful 100 year old Indian blanket is good with some normal wear. There is a bit of very slight fading in some spots. There are no holes or tears but there is overall light soiling and several stains that may or may not come out with cleaning. These are pictured in the many photos below. I have not attempted to clean this blanket in any way and it is being sold AS IS. This piece was recently purchansed from a Kennebunkport. Maine estate and has been stored away in a trunk in a Maine attic for over 75 years. Please refer to the many photos for the exact condition. Hand Woven Old Navajo Striped Wearing Blanket(Diyugi) Created from Handspun Native Navajo Merino Wool Yarn with Natural and Synthetic Dyes. Circa 1890s 6 feet 2 inches long x 4 feet 9 inches wide Condition: Good: there is a crochet repair in the lower right corner around 15 inches square. The item is a little dusty and the corner tassels are worn. Over all the wool is rich and silky. Description; Navajo weavers have been weaving banded blankets since the early 19th century. They are attractive. Sturdy, and decorative. This blanket has good Merino wool, and would keep one warm in a cold strong wind. This weaving has a nicely balanced banded design and rich saturated colors. The warp is handspun wool. Has some light surface soil which can be easily cleaned. Wear to the fringe as pictured. Germantown Trade Yarns(produced in Germantown. PA) and other trade yarns such as Saxony, on the other hand were purchased or traded for by usually by the Skein, and ball, and were used like hand spun in that a single weft was laid, one at a time, which produced a very even field. The earlier yarns were 3-ply, and the later, 4-ply yarns. In rare cases, the plies were taken apart and the very fine single ply yarn was used. Most Germantown blankets(circa 1870-1905) ... morewere woven on a cotton warp foundation and were brightly colored. It's significant to note that the trade yarn. Being thin and fine, coupled with a thin cotton warp made a very fine blanket, but one which was not well suited to heavy floor use. Consequently, few large examples have survived.
