Top& bottom are all SPECTACULAR single planks of, I believe Butternut, up to 20-24" across. The old Six-Board Box Blanket Chests were prized& prominent furnishings in the early American home. One of the most striking features and historical importance of these chests was that only the most perfect. Huge& straight trees were used, the goal being to have each side of the massive chest to be made of a single plank, and not joined from two or more boards. Only the very best trunks were made this way. Further down the food-chain of colonial& early American chests. The sides and top were spliced from two or more boards, or in the poorest ... moreof versions, the whole assemblage was covered in paint and a faux-finished'grain-painted' effect was applied, to make it appear as if the sides were single planks. The chests made with single boards on all six sides(hence the"6-Board Box' were crafted from planks cut from the monarchs of the Old Growth Forest. And often are representative of the oldest, most magnificent trees the lumber mill could find. This chest is made from the widest single boards I've seen in an American(or any western) Dovetailed Chest. The wood in this incredible chest is very hard. Clear& cut from an ancient, old-growth tree. The growth-rings are very tight. I've not counted them, but these old Walnuts& Butternuts could grow to hundreds of years old. This tree could have begun life around the time of Pocahontas. The condition of this chest appears superb. Excepting a couple of ring-stains on top(maybe a coffee mug or beer-bottle left for too long. I am told the blanket could be used on a bed. Floor or wall. It consists of five hand made(knitted? panels, three which are burgundy and two light brown. Each panel was then decorated with cross stitch floral patterns in several colors, pink, yellow, greens,orange, lavender, blue, burgundy. The panels were then hand stitched together and a 5 1/2" crocheted edging completed this pretty gem. Each panel is 11" in width. One 10" section of the edging has loosened from the blanket. I'm sure it could be re- ttached with a talented hand. Also, on one 15" section of the edging the color is just a bit different, a different shade of burgundy. Some ... moreof the stitching holding the panels together needs to be reinforced. Picture 5 shows a hole about the size of a nickel. A few other'knicks' here& there. This blanket was brought from Greece by a woman who was born in 1897. She was 15. It has been with her family since then. Their home is spotless and meticulous. Though I believe that this piece most likely was made prior to 1940. It measures 11.25" by 8" I have counted approximately 503 thread loops within 1 square inch and this is on 1 side only as I am unsure if this is 2 sided like the larger blankets. When I look closely, I believe it probably is 2 sided which would make the total thread count to about 1000 per square inch. As you can see, there is very little damage including some running of the colors or sun fading etc. I would consider this to be in very good antique condition. Antique Hand Painted Wooden Baby Boy in Blanket Decorations-Old Fishing Bobbins?
These are two extremely cute and unique hand carved and hand painted wooden baby figures wrapped in blankets with hand painted bows wrapped around them! There is a small metal piece that. I believe, is used to attach them to something. They are old and they came from a higher end estate sale, but I do not know exactly what they are for. They are 4 3/4" long and, honestly, they look like some sort of fishing bobbin to me. Maybe someone decided to be crafty using some old wooden fishing bobbins? I am not sure, but they are adorable! Very Vibrant colors to this antique/vintage fine woven wool and cotton? blend Saltillo Serape probably dates to the 1940's. The textile measures 78" Long. 36" wide, decorative fringe adds 3" on either end of the length. There are a coulple of areas with minor stains, some bleeding of color within the white areas and just a bit of wear/thinning. Please see my photos, have done my best to be accurate in description. Rare Antique George Washington Stars& Stripes Theme Saltillo Blanket Offered for your consideration is an rare antique George Washington/stars and striped themed Saltillo blanket. The blanket is in very good vintage condition. There is some yellowish spots on the top row of tassels. There are 3 light yellowish spots on George's forehead. I am confident that the yellowish spots would disapear with a light treatment of OXY clean. There is a tiny worn spot in the fiber in George's neck. There is a couple of other tiny wear spots in the weaving that are pictured. There are no holes. There is a bit of tassel loss that is pictured. Overall the blanket is in excellent vintage condition. The colors are rich and vibrant. The blanket measures 92" by 44" not counting the fringe. The British Museum has one of these rare blankets ... morein their collection. This is a Fantastic Primitive Antique Vintage Pine Wood Pie Safe/Jelly-Blanket-Storage Cabinet that was painted Avocado Green and has the distressed look. I purchased this from an Estate Sale where I was able to speak to the original owners grandson. He. At the age of 67 now, told me he remembers this being in his grandparents house for as long as he can remember back. He told me his mother painted the cupboard back in the 1960's for his grandmother the Avocado Green color it is now on the outside and a canary yellow on the inside. It has its original double doors with key turn, however no key with it, and original double pull out bottom drawers. The shelves on the inside have been replaced and are not the originals. There was one and I put that on the bottom shelf because the wood is split. I believe finding some older barn wood for ... morereplacement shelves would be great. And 2 Matching Saddle Blankets I bought these blankets from Pia Armstrong. The widow of Dewitt"Dewey" C.Armstrong IV, the son of Lt. General Dewitt C. Armstrong III. Dewey and Pia's home is just a few blocks from my dad's house in the"Roads" neighborhood of Miami, Fl. According to Pia. Dewey's father acquired these blankets while he was stationed in New Mexico. I wanted to verify Pia's information, so I checked a West Point Memorial page in honor of General Armstrong( And it says that after WW2, then-Major Armstrong joined the army's nuclear program in Sandia, New Mexico. That confirms what Pia learned from Dewey about the provenance of these blankets. The Chimayo Indians ... moreof New Mexico are renowned for their handwoven blankets. Probably the majority of the Chimayo blankets feature the diamond motif. And pretty much all of them feature the particular style of fringe you can see on these blankets. This style of fringe seems to be unique to this tribe. I could not find any Mexican or Navajo blankets online that exactly matched the Chimayo fringe. These blankets appear to be the natural color of the sheep's wool. Brown and a light tan or beige. I know the blankets have to predate 1952, as that is when Gen. Armstrong was sent to Germany. Judging by the natural color of the blankets, they may be very much older than the post WW2 era when he came into possession of them. The large blanket measures 6'5" long. And 4'4" wide. The saddle blankets are 46"x27" Three piece sets like this are quite rare. I can see several small damaged spots where the warp threads were separated on the large blanket. A couple of them have been repaired, but amateurishly. It also has several spots that are darker than the surrounding light tan color, which may be atmospheric stains, like foxing in an old book, or water stains maybe. It is a little

Antique Pumpkin Pine 6 board blanket chest
This handsome 6 board Pumpkin Pine chest has hand cut molding around the skirt and breadboard type molding around 3 sides of the cover. The hinges are hand wrought iron'bean' ends with some newer screws used in the 40's. The interior has a till box with a secret drawer under it that would have been used for hiding valuables during 1800's. There is some evidence that this was painted grey originally. But the wood is so beautiful it should have been left unpainted, in my opinion. Length is 49.75" Height is 21" Depth is 20" The hand created dovetail joinery is widely spaced indicating that it is an earlier piece. It has the original hand made lock with key still in it. There is some water staining on the top which can be attended to by the new owner. Antique Authentic Estate NAVAJO NAVAHOE Blanket Art Deco Era Circa 1930's Size: 72x42 Condition As Shown On This Estate Piece-This Piece Was Appraised By Antique Roadshow in 2002 and at that time the estimated Fair Market Value was between $1500-$2000. This piece originated from a vacation trip to several Indian Reservations near Albuquerque& other areas of New Mexico in the 1930's. It has a professional repair as pictured in one small area. This repair was done prior to the purchasing of the blanket according to the information provided by my senior client.Also noted a couple of dark spots in the lower right hand edge. This piece shows normal wear and condition for the age. Overall nice condition and makes quite a stunning display piece. Vintage antique white & pink feather bolster or blanket chest pad 48"x18"
Vintage cotton old pink and white striped feather ticking bolster. It has the feather still in it. this one is 48" long by 19" wide. tho it is probably for a bolster. To me it also says it would look great on a super blanket chest. It's not a really thick bolster so it tells me it was done up a the pad thing. In good but used condition, it does have some stains, it is being sold as found. Note-this item in a box is almost 7 pounds. There is no damage on item. Unless mentioned above. CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN POPLAR DOVETAILED BLANKET CHEST Probably Pennsylvania. C. 1820-40; almost untouched condition Item# 1401ETP11PP This is a nearly untouched example of early Americana. An austere and unembellished blanket chest from the second quarter of the nineteenth-century. The top is a single solid plank of thick poplar with molding applied to the edges using cut iron nails, lifting over original cut and forged iron strap hinges(retaining original screws) to reveal a tidy interior with a small till on the left. An iron lock used to be attached to the inside, this and the clasp now absent. The clean lines of the front of the case are accentuated by the exposed dovetailing following from the sides through the original bracket feet. The ... moreentire surface retains a wonderfully patinated early red paint, almost certainly original. While many households do not have a need for blanket chests today. We've seen some very successful integration of these forms into period and primitively styled decors as entertainment stands(being of perfect width to compliment a television) and as a table flanked by a pair of chairs, perhaps in front of the window. And naturally, the blanket chest is ideally situated at the foot of the bed in a room of early decor. Provenance: Estate of a Lancaster. Pennsylvania family Materials: Tulip Poplar(top. Solid wood with cedar lining. pad bun feet with decorative wood trim on sides and oval in center. wood bench style back of trunk is about 3" high with carved design, the skeleton key lock is original hardware( no key is included) the hinge screws appear to have been tampered with as shown- lost some screws and replaced. Caucasian - Persian Saddle Blanket - wool, antique, 24 X 65 inches
This is a wool Caucasian saddle blanket(meaning from the Caucasus mountain region around Georgia. Armenia, Azerbaijan) which was confirmed to the owner by appraisal from Davenport’s(he was thinking of auctioning it through them) Personally, I don’t know much about this piece other than that. But it is a real horse blanket, as the under-material shows signs of use. And it is old. The gold braiding. Which surrounds the blanket, has come loose in parts(see photos) though easily repaired. It was given to a group of Mormon missionaries who worked there in the late 1940's. I have two others that were also given and will be putting those on ebay as well. The weaving is super tight. Hand hemmed on two ends. This homespun blanket measures a full 94 inches by 64 inches. It features wonderful tufted graphics throughout– a large center star. Tufted borders, 22 very folky trees, and six little girls. There is no rust or stains. However. It has a patch and a small area that looks like it was re-woven. Please refer to all of the pictures provided. It has been stored away in a chest with coverlets and such with moth balls– I aired it out but it may still have a faint mothball smell. Airing it for a couple of days will eliminate that. I draped it over my French door to show the figures with backlit– the stripes are the window panes showing through. Antique Blanket Chest with 2 drawers ~ red paint ~ fish tail hinges ~ 32" tall
Description This is a large antique blanket chest with 2 drawers. It is all hand dovetailed. It came out of an estate in Pennsylvania. The chest has red paint however someone removed the paint from the lid. It has the original fish tail hinges. One hinge does have a crack at the bend but still works. The inside is clean. The original till is in very good condition however there is a black stain on one side of the bottom. The 2 lower drawers are in very good condition and have sandwich glass pulls. Which may be original. One pull has a large chip and the other one has a small chip. The drawers are hand dovetailed with chamfered bottoms. The feet have extra nails coming from the top, probably to secure them over the years. The chest has the smell of mothballs due to an old box found in one of the drawers. It will need airing out.
