Antique Stoneware Pottery Jug Jugtown Greenville Spartanburg As Is. It is being sold as found condition. I found this around the Greenville South Carolina ... morearea a few years ago. It had a chip (photo 2) and a crack following off both sides of the chip and also a small chip on handle interior left side (photo 9). I wasn't sure if it was unstable, so I dropped some super glue into the void just in case. The jug rings solid when tapped. I have had it for many years, and the cracks have never worsened. This is a great study example and a fairly rare jug in general. As always, if you have any questions, just ask!

Antique Jug This auction is for a really nice and very rare antique stoneware jug or crock that has a really nice salt glaze finish. The jug is rather ... morenarrow and it’s a very early model. But there are no markings minus what looks like a letter G stamped in the back. The jug measures about 11" tall and it has a very unusual pinched handle design that I’ve never seen. Really nice piece and in excellent condition with no damage. There is a very shallow chip at the mouth but it might just have been manufactured as such– it looks like it’s always been there. Great piece and guaranteed old! I charge a 5.1% sales tax to all Wisconsin residents- sorry. It's mandatory! Thanks for bidding! Shipping rules: If you happen to win more than one auction and live in the United States I will GREATLY discount shipping. Obviously. ANTIQUE 19THC ENGLISH STONEWARE LUSTRE GLAZED STONEWARE POTTERY CROCK JAR JUG
WHAT A CROCK OF. Gooseberry Preserves. Lemon Curd, or perhaps Clotted Cream, Dear Collectors, this is a genuine 19th c antique English lustre glazed Preserve Stoneware Crock Jar peculiar to those made across the big pond for food preservation of yesteryear in the British Isles. Every respectable farmstead would sport several in the kitchen and buttery/pantry for daily use and storage of preserved foodstuffs well before the days of modern refrigeration made these charming sturdy stoneware vessels outmoded and relegated to collector status. Quite similar to American Albany slip brown glaze. The exterior of crock is covered lavishly in pearl brown lustre wash glaze giving it a soft lustre reflective pearl shine with life that dances off the surface at all angles. It features twin lug handles at upper side to aid gripping crock during cooking ... morewith a decorative stamped incised single beaded ring running around the upper middle kissing lower handle extensions. It has a most gentle chamfered base bevel, then the bottom is simply unglazed stoneware clay patina. A thick well formed rim likely once had a lid no longer present, but no matter, clean sage gray green glazed interior is happy to hold your wooden spoons and kitchen utensils in period style. Overall it has a tall, slight flared upright shape like a fine pail with great dignity and usefulness to industrious housekeeper.remember Mrs. Bridges from Upstairs, Downstairs? Hudson would approve and no doubt Downton Abbey has a few on display as well. It stands 6.25" tall and 5.75" across open top. I would guestimate, holds about a quart liquid capacity overall. It is in sound fine condition with no damage, no chips, no hairlines. nothing beyond the the usual firing scratch in the making or tiny rough clay blob on rim glazed over. I know this is English having travelled to the UK buying fields myself seeing these on offer occasionally, and this lovely example was deacessioned last week from a retired English Dealer in Gettysburg, PA who purchased it

Antique Stoneware Jug (actually China!) Meredith's Diamond Club Pure Rye Whiskey
Antique China Jug ~ Meredit's Diamond Club Pure Rye Whiskey. Expressly for Medicinal Use ~ almost 8" tall ~ White as this is China with teal-green graphics ~ The following comes from a blog/website about Art Liquor Jugs: Meredith’s knack for publicity was matched by the themes of his advertising. His newspaper ads and container labels insisted that the whiskey was“pure. once again exhibiting his merchandising savvy. The hottest consumer issue of the decade was the safety of merchandised food and drink products. The Pure Food and Drug Act would be enacted a several years later and“purity” had the same draw as“all natural” does today. Diamond Club’s purity, Meredith announced, made it“the safest whiskey on earth” for medical purposes. He claimed that one“nip” was worth 10 doses of medicine and boasted that his liquor had been“officially ... morerecognized” by the medical profession. How and where, he did not elaborate. By stressing his whiskey’s therapeutic rather than its lubricating qualities Meredith also was attempting to circumvent the burgeoning Temperance Movement. The business of selling“the safest whiskey on earth for medicinal use” expanded rapidly. Within a decade Meredith was one of North America’s largest whiskey distributors. Serving a clientele, as he put it, from Maine to California and Canada to the Gulf. This canny. Self-promoting businessman also saw the customer appeal that bottling his whiskey in a whiteware china jug might have. He talked his former employers at KT&K into shaping a distinctive container, one with a graceful tapering body, a serpent handle, a fancy over-glaze label and plenty of gold trimming. On April 4, 1891, the East Liverpool DAILY CRISIS ran an ad stating: The G.W. Meredith Co. is offering its Diamond Club Pure Rye Whiskey in china jugs that will come in three sizes. The KT&K whiskey jug was launched- every one of the bearing the message: Expressly for Medicinal Purposes. He also approved a striking design for an“1880” Meredith Rye. International customers. We a

STONEWARE JUG HAYNES & CO. BLUE BOTTLE EXTRACTS MONTOUR FALLS N.Y.
This jug is 9 1/4" tall and 5 1/4" in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks or crazing and clear blue lettering. It is one of three known to exist. The line which looks like a crack and can be seen in the second photo is actually a mark that is under the glaze and cannot be felt as a crack would be. The story of this jug(from my reasearch) is: Jerome C. Haynes was born in Orleans. New York in 1849. He moved to Lyons. New York and finally settled in Montour Falls, New York, where in 1897 he opened and operated a company to manufacture all manner of“Flavoring Extracts” He was best known for his“BLUE BOTTLE EXTRACTS” The bottles in which he put his extracts were Cobalt Blue. Which he believed protected the flavor. These he put up in sizes ranging from 2 0z. to 5 gallons. Digger O’Dell publications. July 2000) ... moreThe business was started shortly after Havana became Montour Falls in 1895. It prospered and ran until the owner’s death in 1917. They made many different flavoring extracts. Including Vanilla, Mint, Almond and a number of others. The products all contained about 6% alcohol. The owner tasted all of his products each day. And was pretty consistently inebriated. The owner spent a lot of time in front of his business and liked to pinch bottoms of nubile young ladies as they passed. The area quickly became off limits to all young women and that remained so. Long after his death. The building was a 3 story frame building on the south side of Main Street. Next door to the hotel. It was used as a bowling alley by the Mechanics Club for a while. Finally being torn down and is now a parking lot for the Mechanics Club. The stoneware jug is one of 3 known to exist and extremely rare along with the cobalt blue and larger bottles. Al Sweet. Montour Falls Village Historian) I am selling my collection of Haynes bottles and one jug. The final picture shows the whole collection. This auction is for the jug only. It will come to you carefully packed and we will combine shipping charges if more

Antique Stoneware: 1Gal. WHITES, UTICA Jug w/ Signature Pine Tree, NY, ca.1865
A very nice 1Gal. Jug from Upstate New York. Ca.1865. The cobalt-washed stamp on the shoulder has a light reads: WHITE'S UTICA. This mark dates between 1850-1880. There are some small chips on the base, and two stone pops(right side, shoulder) and a few stack marks.
