LARGE 18th CENTURY DERBY PORCELAIN FIGURE RANELAGH DANCER c1770
Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. LARGE 18th CENTURY DERBY PORCELAIN FIGURE RANELAGH DANCER c1770 Presented is a Derby porcelain figure from England that dates to circa 1765-70! This figure is most likely of a famous leading actor of the time. We believe it is part of the Ranelagh Dancers of Derby because of the placement of its hands and posture. The figure is holding a posy in his outstretched hand. On a scroll-molded base. Flowery, leafy branches are on both sides of him. He is wearing a green and red cape over a white shirt with a yellow rim and red, blue, and yellow flowers. He has brown eyes and black hair. The condition is excellent. There are some flakes to the paint/glaze( the worst of which is shown in the last photograph to part of the green cape) and many of the leaves and flower petals have ... morebroken off. His left hand was broken off and has been repaired. The fingers on his left hand have also been repaired. Please see the photographs below. His hat has been repainted in the front and what appears to have been feathers or leaves on his hat have broken off. There are a couple of natural fissures that occurred in the making. The glaze has flowed into these and they should not be considered damage. One is on his shoulder over the green cape, and the other is along his pigtail. The figure stands 13 inches high. 1760s English Soft Paste Porcelain 5 inch Figurine (Spring; Derby?, Bow?, or?)
Soft paste Porcelain Putto symbolic of Spring(one of the Four Seasons) with applied leaves. Florets with egg yellow& black centers, braided hair and minimal additional enameled decoration on a plain base with very minor damage and dating from the late 1750s or 1760s(for full details, continue reading below) Welcome to a mid-winter February Special Sale Listing and. enjoy! ITEM DETAILS: Wonderful early English porcelain figurine of a female child with braided hair carrying a basket of flowers on a simple base adorned with leaves and flower heads(symbolic of Spring in a four seasons theme) The young person is leaning against a short tree stump and wearing puce and soft blue drape around her left hip. The figurine is well painted with her brown hair finely detailed to accent her long braid formed into a circle and ending in a tight knot(see ... moreclose-up photo) Her brown hair is not painted with a brush but instead scratched with a fine needle to remove some coloring so that one can see both individual strands and braiding. Her face is also expertly painted with her eyebrows again painted with a single hair as a brush and painted in brown and made from placing 12 to 15 short curving brush strokes each. Her eyes have black pupils set within brown irises and each also has a small red tear duct in the corner. The girls nose has her nostrils outlined in light brown and her lips are colored blood red. Other details include small applied flowers with six pedals and bright yellow(egg yellow) centers topped with a tiny dark blackish-brown dot. Other important characteristics include two distinct shades of green on the applied leaves: a common green(translucent grassy green) and a bluish-green(weak turquoise green) Some of the iron red flowers were painted using a fine single hair brush and taking 25 to 30 individual brush strokes. The figurine is solid and not hollow-formed and so it feels heavier than others its size that are not solid. There is a hole pierced in the base that has a firing crack emanating from

19thC Samson Derby Thespian Figural Group Hand Painted Porcelain Masked Man 3597
19thC Samson Derby Thespian Figural Group Hand Painted Porcelain Masked Man 3597 19thC Samson Derby Thespian Figural Group Hand Painted Porcelain Masked Man 3597 Please view the wide selection of antiques and collectibles in my ebay store! Here is this large figural group made of fine porcelain. This figural group was probably made by Edme Samson. It has a red crown mark(similar to that of early 19thc Derby figurines) But it also has a crossed swords mark(a spitting image of Meissen) under the glaze near the red crown mark. Samson was known to mark figurines with both marks, so it is likely his. There is also a IV mark impressed on the base. The porcelain figurine is finely modelled and beautifully hand painted. The figurine has a repair to the hat of the masked man and was repainted. The ladies hand, highest in the air, may have been repaired ... moreas well, but the paint for the others' hands also looks to be different than the arms(and those don't look to be repaired) Just be aware that there may be other repairs. But if they were done, they were done professionally. The group measures 7 1/2" x 4 1/4" wide at the base and 8 1/4" in max height. 3597SH Free shipping to the Continental US! Surcharge to AK. 2 ANTIQUE DERBY Porcelain VASES 1784-95 Witches Japan Imari Urns Scroll Handles
This auction is for a pair of Antique Georgian 18th Century Royal Crown Derby 2 handled Vases or Urns. Both Vases are marked with the very early Derby Porcelain Works backstamp in use from 1784 to 1795- Pictorial Guide to Pottery& Porcelain Marks by Chad Lage. Copyright 2004. Page 84) The vases measure approximately 8 3/4 inches in height. 6 1/2 inches in width and 3 1/8 inches across there square footed base. Remarkably. One of the vases is in Very Good to Excellent Condition with no chips. Cracks or repairs with the only faults being very light wear to the gilding, an old, from the time of making, firing crack on the inside of the rim and a couple of brown spots on the inside of the mouth(I have no idea what they are from) The other vase has not fared so well. Both handles have multiple repaired breaks and three of the four bottom corners ... moreof the vase have chips- the vase still displays well; however if the repairs bothers the new owner. The vase, especially being one of a matching pair, is worth having professional invisible repairs. The vases feature an unusual Imari pattern with a floral decoration inside a green oval and gilded Faun or Pan Faces/Masks at the base of the handles. A wonderful example of 200 year old plus porcelain in a timeless Design and Decoration. Please see my other items! Rare 1810 Derby Porcelain Floral Plate Wheeldon Porzellan Teller English Blumen
For sale is a great plate made by Derby around 1810. It is handpainted with a superb floral arrangement in the center apparently by the hand of William Wheeldon(I think it's Whieldon) the nephew of Billingsley) Really a stunning design. The rim has a superb gold design to it that is quite fancy! The plate is in great condition with a bit of wear to the gold mostly to the very edge of the plate. It is gold Derby mark. A gold 36(likely the gilder's mark) and a green 13(hard to read) which is probably a painter's mark. The plate is accompanied by a letter which is shown in the pictures. It is 1.25 inches tall and 8.875 inches in diameter. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like KPM. Sevres and so on or contact me through Ebay. The author’s story of 100 years of Derby porcelain production covers the entire period of the famous factory’s changing fortunes from the time of the purchase of a site in 1756 down to its death knell in 1848. Inevitably the author has devoted the major part of his narrative and illustrated examples to the latter half of the eighteenth century when the factory’s prestige was at its highest. Employing some of the finest craftsmen and artists of the day. The successive influences of materials and techniques from Meissen and Sevres are assessed and clearly exemplified in the 170 color and black-and-white photographs. Ample space is devoted to the splendid table ware with the naturalistic landscape and floral ... moredesigns for which the factory was renowned, and to the single figures and groups which are prized by collectors everywhere” This book provides authoritative information on marks. On pastes and glazes, and on the careers and distinctive styles of the most prominent artists, decorators and figure makers employed by Derby. Among contemporary material included are entries from the pattern books and the enlightening letters written between 1777 and 1797 by Joseph Lygo, manager of the Derby showroom in London. Throughout, the author’s wide range of scholarship is combined with great simplicity of style, and his book is confidently recommended to anyone who has a feeling for superb art and craftsmanship. This volume contains a useful brief bibliography and index. 8.75” x 11.2” hardback with dust cover in very good condition. 144 pages plus photo plates. Rare Early Royal Crown Derby Imari Porcelain 12" Platter
Though it is unmarked(as were 50% of Derby porcelain produced in the 18th and 19th century) This platter bears all the characteristics of early Crown Derby imari decorations(first introduced in 1770)as seen from the gold zigzag lines on cobalt trim, and the 4 little cartouches flanked by cobalt leaves. Center design. Depicting fruits and flowers in unusually abstract form, is painted delicately, with much precision. Colors are very vibrant; gilt is hardly worn in most areas. Except for on the rim. There is a dark spot hiding in the center design(I'm trying to remove with some solvent. Provided if it is removable) A hairline on the back only. A firing hole/flaw on the back. Great 18thC Derby Lady Andromache Weeping Porcelain Figurine Porzellan Figur
For sale is a figurine of a lady made by Derby in about 1775. It is Andromache weeping over the ashes of Hector. She is very well modeled and the colors are well chosen. Even though the dress is extremely detailed and well painted it is not overbearing and the whole thing is just very elegant. The figurine is in pretty much the same condition as when it was first made with some manufacturing flaws such as black specs and firing cracks normal on these large pieces. There is a missed glaze spot on the urn. An area of glaze cracking where it pooled on top of the urn, some big firing cracks in the base but mostly underneath with parts showing on the front and on top. Like I said pretty much the same as the day she was made. Interesting are the markings underneath. There are the patch marks which show us that she is indeed Derby, an No100 which ... moreis likely the model number, then a 2d and a signature that I cannot make out- might be Size G or something like that. The figurine is 9.875 inches tall, 4.75 inches wide and and 3.25 inches deep. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like Vienna.
