Orangemen George III Political Antique Sunderland Lustre Irish History Jug 1828
Orangemen George III Political Antique Sunderland Lustre Masonic Jug c1828 This is a stunning piece of historical pottery. It is an old jug in the Sunderland lustre tradition- where mineral salts are added to the kiln during firing to create the wonderful pink lustrous hue to the borders of the decoration. It dates to 1828 and is inscribed Hannah Ellingworth- suggesting that it was a gift to her from a loved one. The jug is particularly interesting for its wonderfully unusual and vivid transfer decoration. This decoration features the"Orangemen" of Irish Politics who formed as an order in 1792. The jug is a prophetic piece urging for"brotherly love" It also speaks of the"Protestant Ascendancy of Holiness to the Lord" and rather paradoxically of"enemies" It is a most fascinating piece. It stands some ... more4.5 inches tall. The condition is fair- but with heavy wear- notably there are some small chips to spout. Masonic Independent Order of Odd Fellows Pink Sunderland Lustre Antique Plate
Masonic Independent Order of Odd Fellows Pink Sunderland Lustre Antique Plate This is a highly attractive piece of pink lustre ware. Dating from the 19th century. The addition of mineral salts during firing in the kiln, gave pottery the wonderful lustrous effect seen here. This was at its height of popularity in the Victorian era. Sunderland was of course a famous maritime region. With the majority of industry centering around the sea. However this plate has a rather more unusual theme, featuring a motif of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, an organisation similar to the Masonic Lodges. The Oddfellows were actually very ahead of their time. Established in the late 18th century. The organisation believed in charity to those in need in the community, at a time of industrialization where profit was commonly prized above welfare. It also ... moreallowed members of the working class to join its order. This fascinating old plate bears a transfer print and lustre border. It measures 9 inches in diameter. There are no chips and it remains bright and bold. However there is a bottom base crack(only visible from the underside) Questions are more than welcome. Please take a look at my sellers page to find out more information about me and the service I provide as well as my excellent record of feedback. Be sure to add me to your favourites list! English Staffordshire or Sunderland Pearlware Pink Lustre Pitcher c1820 ~ Sailors Farewell Jug ~ Black Transferware Illustration and Flowers ~ 6" high ~ about 7 1/2" from spout to handle An antique English porcelain bulbous pitcher with the Sailors Farewell illustration and verses. The transfers of the poems were not carefully applied and the letters appear cut off in places but this is all in the making. The main illustration shows the wife and children leaving the sailor with the ship in the distance, the other side of the jug has a verse'I envy no one's birth or fame' surrounded by a flower border. The rim and spout is painted with pink lustre and the pink lustre was painted throughout in squiggles. In overall excellent condition; there is no major damage to the piece but there is some beige staining to the pottery(probably ... morean over burn? mostly around the middle that fades to the bottom. This could be professionally cleaned to appear all white again but even as is. It has a very attractive display. The handle and spout are fine and except for around the top rim, the lustre is remarkably intact. There is one chip under the footrim that isn't seen when upright. Below. The chip under the footrim falls just under the handle, as you can see above it is hardly noticeable standing upright. Thanks for looking. No Reserve! It would have been made by one of the Sunderland area potteries around 1840-1860. Also have religious and moral warnings in the typically Victorian taste. The large bowl measures 13 inches by 5 inches. The pudding bowls measure approximately 6 by 3 inches The set is in on the whole good condition for their age but with tiny flaws. One bowl does have a hairline crack of approximately 2 inches, there are a few other smaller ... morecracks, varying degrees of discolouration and fading, but no chips(bar small nibbles to some bottom base foot-rims) or significant damages. Staffordshire Sunderland Pink Lustre Jug ~ THE FAIRY OF THE SEA ~ c1860 NR
Staffordshire Sunderland Pink Lustre Milk Jug Pitcher c1860 ~ THE FAIRY OF THE SEA ~ Three Mast Ship Print and Verse ~ Almost 6" high to top of handle ~ 7 1/2" from spout to handle A similar jug with the same inscription was attributed to the William Ball of Deptford. Sunderland pottery, 1857- 1920s. This is a much thicker ironstone type of pottery than the usual thin pearlware type of 1820s but still very attractive. The verse reads: THERE'S A FRIGATE ON THE WATERS, FIT FOR BATTLE. STORM, OR FUN, SHE DANCES LIKE A LIFE BOAT, THOUGH SHE CARRIES FLAG AND GUN, WHAT'ER MAY TRY. SHE'LL STAND THE TEST, THE BRAVE. THE STAUNCH THE FREE, SHE BEARS A NAME OF STAINLESS FAME, THE FAIRY OF THE SEA. In excellent display condition; there is a small chip under the rim of the spout. A patch of gritty glaze by the ship and overall crazing ... moreto the glaze. Thanks for looking! No Reserve! ANTIQUE PINK LUSTRE JUG EMBOSSED PATTERN FLOWER PANELS SUNDERLAND STAFFORDSHIRE?
A nice example here of Victorian pottery lustre ware. This jug has hexagonal panels showing transfer printed flowered panels and embossed decoration to the spout and lower part of the body and then highlighted with pink lustre. It is almost 6.5" 17cm) high with an ornately decorated handle. Low start and no reserve. Please check my other items. I am more than willing to combine postage. Please read before bidding Increasingly due to much higher postage costs by Royal Mail I am using other carriers so could any succesful bidder when paying also leave some instructions for the courier where to leave parcel if nobody is at home ie"Leave in shed/porch or with a neighbour etc" I personally insure items up to the value of £50 if your item is over this value then there will be an extra charge of £1.30 for UK delivery and ... more£6.00 for overseas delivery(due to several recent losses ALL parcels to Italy and China must pay this) on top of the quoted price. Be aware that on very rare occasions prices for shipping of large overseas parcels could be more expensive than quoted if you live in a remote area. Please ask as many questions as you like before bidding. I describe all items as clearly as I can but honest mistakes can be made and remember when buying antique and vintage items that they will not come with the shine and finish of new. I pay extra fees so that you can see large pictures of the items that I am selling. Please view these pictures as they are a part of my descriptions. Contact me if you have any problems. If I do not know then I cannot help. I always post within 3 working days of an item finishing(generally 2 days) but I cannot be held responsible for any delays caused by third parties so send your bad feedback to the courier or Royal Mail if something is late.
Sunderland Lustre/Luster shaker and salt dish*~*
OK.Here is a RARE find! A Sunderland salt dish paired with a Sunderland shaker. Both are difficult to find on their own and I have never seen them as a set. However only necessary if you were going to use it. A beautiful. Decorative pair for your china cabinet and for a collector of English Lustre/ Lusterware.a MUST! Salt dish measures 2" in height and 3" in diameter. Shaker measures approx 4 1/2" in height. These little gems have been adoring our cabinet for many years. It is time for them to belong to you. ANTIQUE SUNDERLAND LUSTRE DISHES (TWO NOT A PAIR)
In this item there are 2(two)pieces of Sunderland Lustre dishes. Both are Antique dating from late Victorian era.I will describe them individually. The first dish has the typical colours of Sunderland Lustre Ware and depicts two young women with sheaves of corn, possibly Spring. This dish measures approx. 7 1/2 inches across and is shallow.Around the rim is a pattern of diamonds intertwined with oval loops. On the inner unbroken line is a small amount of colour missing. On the outer rim pattern is a small amount missing which looks as though something was cut across it before firing. It measures approx. 1/2 inch and is not a crack or a chip. The second dish measures 7 3/4 inches across and approx. 1 1/2 inches deep. This dish again with the colours correct for Sunderland Lustre has a Mother figure with three children with CHARITY written across the ... morebottom in a pastoral scene. Some paint loss to this scene but not major loss with a few minor scratches, probably from use. This dish I think is older than the other one. Both display well and both have no maker's marks on their base.No boxes. Will be well wrapped. Both are porcelain.
1820's-1840's SUNDERLAND BRIDGE LUSTRE CHINA PITCHER W/ SHIP 9.5" X 7"
We are offering in this listing an attractive& impressive Sunderland lustre English soft paste china pitcher(or jug) We are estimating that this pitcher/jug was made circa 1820's-1840's. The pitcher/jug measures 9 1/2 inches across the handle& spout by 7 inches tall. The top to the outside of the rim from left to right measures 5 3/16 inches& the base diameter is 4 5/8 inches. The pitcher/jug has a transfer decoration with lots of vibrant hand painted color details of Sunderland Bridge. The span of the bridge is mentioned on the pitcher as 236 feet& the height is mentioned as 100 feet. The other side has a transfer scene of a sailing ship. There is no name to indicate the specific ship shown. This scene is also hand painted with vibrant& exciting colors. Under the spout there is a transfer of a wreath comprised ... moreof leaves& flowers with a small sailing ship at the top. The details of the wreath& the surrounding areas are vibrantly hand painted with assorted colors. Also under the spout is the following wording: The man doom'd to sail With the blast of the gale Through billows alantic to steer As he bends oe'r the wave Which may soon be his grave Remembers his home with a tear" There is minor wear to the wording but the wording is easily readable. The pitcher/jug is extremely colorful& the colors are fresh. Bright, vibrant& visually compelling. All of the colors are of optimum intensity. This is truly a visually exceptional& exciting example of Sunderland lustre! There is some minor age wear to the luster& the hand painted decorations. This is mostly at the top rim with only tiny specks of wear here& there on other areas. There are no scratches& there are no points where the glaze shows obvious wear. There is an old repair to the left side exterior area of the spout. There is no damage or any sign of any repair or any chipping or any crack on the inside of the spout. So. We would surmise that there apparently must have been a shallow chip or ch
