Pair of grotesque Martin Brothers saltglaze stoneware wall brackets - 1877.
A really lovely pair of Martin Brothers art pottery wall brackets made from saltglazed stoneware. These are very early examples of their work dating from 1877. The body of the two pieces modelled with acanthus leaves and acorns descending to a grotesque grinning human face at the base.Coloured in a mix of olive greens and blues and browns. Please note there are slight colour and decoration differences between the two pieces- they are not a perfect match. Both pieces are signed in script to the top plinth- R W Martin Southall- one is dated 1877. Condition of both pieces is excellent.Length- 5 1/2ins approx.

Exceptionally rare Walter Fraser Martin Brothers saltglaze stoneware jug - birds
This is an extremely rare piece of art pottery made by the Martin Brothers- dating from around 1880-90.What makes this jug so exciting is that it has been personally signed by one of the brothers( usually pieces were marked using the all inclusive and various Martin Brothers logos) The jug is by Walter Fraser Martin.Of bulbous form with cylindrical neck and looped handle- made from their trademark saltglazed stoneware giving it a wonderful high gloss.Smooth exterior.Coloured in dark cobalt blues with lighter blues and browns. The central panel is decorated with birds among branches- two further patterned panels separate this from the top and bottom of the jug whilst the neck also has a patterned border. Height- 8 1/2ins approx.Signed to base W F Martin R W M London and also WFM below handle terminal. He wanted everyone to know it was his work! ... moreCondition is very good.However.On viewing under UV light there is an area of professional restoration to a small hairline at the top rim.Very well done.On the other side of the rim is a splodge of blue glaze.I do not think this is restoration- it does not floresce- I think there may have been a fault in manufacture and this was repaired by Walter himself. The colour matches the light blue glazes perfectly.Have tried to show in pictures. Early Brown Saltglaze Sewer Tile Stoneware Storage Jar Crock,Texas Pottery??
Early Brown Saltglaze Sewer Tile Stoneware Storage Jar Crock.Texas Pottery? Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album This is a relist auction because the winning bidder on the previous auction never paid for it. Never responded to my emails, and did not respond to ebays reminder to pay. This will be the last time it will be listed, and I lowered the set in price so it will sell. It is an early brown saltglaze sewer tile stoneware storage jar crock that I believe may be a piece of Texas stoneware pottery. You will probably be able to determine if it is a piece of Texas stoneware when you view the pictures. Tan clay color is showing on the unglazed bottom and you can see on the inside that it is a piece of hand turned hand thrown stoneware. Transitional NC Pottery Pitcher Cobalt/Saltglaze Stoneware attr. Jonie Owen
Here's a nice little NC Transitional Era pitcher. This little gem is saltglazed stoneware with a solid cobalt blue glaze applied. The pitcher is unsigned. But the handle and shape would seem to point to Jonie(Jonah Franklin) Owen as the potter. This could have been made at JH Owen's shop at Steeds, or possibly at North State in the mid 1920's. Pitcher stands 3.5" tall by 3" in diameter at the belly. Condition is excellent, with no damages or any repair. Pitcher ships USPS Priority OR Parcel Select(Standard) Insured, your choice. We do accept Paypal, but it is NOT REQUIRED to bid on one of my listings. Thanks for looking, and good luck should you choose to bid on it. Ed

19th C A.K. Ballard Bennington Vt saltglaze 2 gal. stoneware jug w cobalt flower
Offered here as a buy it now or best offer is this 2 gallon A.K. Ballard(Bennington Vermont) salt glaze stoneware jug with a rather impressive floral cobalt decoration. Aside from some glaze drips the sole apology I can find is a barely perceptible'spider' to the side as shown in my last picture(the small'irregularities' to the glaze shown in my 9th and 10th pictures are. I believe, in the manufacturing of the jug) However, the spider is sufficiently tight and small that I'm not sure it isn't simply in the glaze(cant see, of course, that far into the interior of the jug) Nevertheless, as my pictures show, the cobalt is massive and impressive. ba sically encompassing the whole front-side of the jug. USPS domestic shipping with insurance will run $2 2. RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp*3A%3Cd%3Ff6%3E-13df8b184b1-0xfd-

Early NC Saltglaze Vase, Masten Type Glaze Attr. JH/ML Owen 1930's Steeds
Here's a neat little 1930's saltglaze NC pottery vase that we picked out of a junk shop this week. We've seen 2-3 of these in the past. But they seem to be far and few between. The vase is decorated with a"Masten" type glaze. We're reasonably sure this is Melvin Lee(M.L. Owen(s) and made his his father's(J.H. Owen's) shop at Steeds, NC. Seems that Melvin was just tinkering around to see if he could make anything comparable to the pots from Auman that C.B. Masten was producing in the mid 30's. The glaze looks to be brushed on. It's a combination of Albany Slip(the brown) and possibly Copper Oxide that is producing the greens. The vase stands 4" tall by 4.5" in diameter. Condition is very good, showing just one small rim chip. Yeah, it's no Masten, but these experimentals by Melvin are ... morevery rare none the less. Vase ships USPS Priority OR parcel Select Insured Mail, your choice. Thanks for looking, and good luck should you choose to bid on it! Ed

ANTIQUE KNIGHT WARE STONEWARE OR SALTGLAZE JAR SUPER LARGE 2' ACROSS X 38" TALL
ITEM DESCRIPTION: I have up for your consideration from The Treasure Chest: A very large stone type jar with a spout at the bottom. Has two steel bands around it. I moved one of the steel bands up some so I could identify the maker: KNIGHT WARE STOCK 201 75 5 VB. Has a handle hold on each side of the jar. I don't have a clue what this was used for. This is a very heavy jar. I don't have any way to weigh it. The size is: 38 3/4" tall measures about 26 1/2" across the center middle at the top of the jar. I measured around the top all the way around and it is about 6' circumference. It is about 2" thick. It has some real tiny hairline splits but not very bad and a chipped place on the bottom rim and I believe that spot can be repaired also. There are a few paint drips, or splatters, not too bad. The spout has been ... morebroken loose and needs repaired. If that spout was repaired, I believe it would still hold water. As you can see in the pictures this is a very large jar and is very heavy. It would have to be pick up only. I can load it but it would be up to the buyer to have a way to unload it. I think this was something to do with Industry maybe. If anyone out there knows what these jars were used for or any history, I would appreciate some information on it. ITEM LOCATION: WIRT COUNTY. PALESTINE, WEST VIRGINIA PAYMENT: PAYPAL SHIPPING: LOCAL PICKUP ONLY THANKS FOR LOOKING AT MY ITEM FROM THE TREASURE CHEST!

early 19th C 3 gal saltglaze stoneware jug w. rare incised bird, as is
Boy. Where to begin here? To say this jug has issues is a bit of an understatement: At some point, someone dropped it and it broke into multiple pieces. I count 14 pieces, though I may have missed one or double counted one. Then they glued it all back together, so you see it as it is. I would have to say neither the word'hairline' or'crack' seems adequate. But clearly, we can be thankful they didn't throw it all away, because otherwise she is indeed a rarity- the early 19th C ovoid form with a boldly incised bird that would otherwise make this piece a centerpiece of anyone's collection. But here is, that's what I have. And since it wasn't me that broke it or glued it together, I have no idea what glue was used and thus cannot be certain of the opportunities for restoration. As for dimensions, she's appx ... more15" high, 10" in diameter at its widest point and 6" at the base(what you see on the base is some tape residue from when, I assume, she was being glued together) Offered without reserve, domestic USPS shipping will run $36(if less I will refund) RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fvo%7B%3Dd70f%2Bf54%3E-14563241fb8-0x10d-

WHITES UTICA NY STONEWARE MUG JUL HAUSMAN SALTGLAZE WITH COBALT EARLY HANDLE
This mug stands about 4 3/4 inch high. It has a scrolled handle with cobalt fired on it. There is a double cobalt decoration that runs around the entire mug. There are 2 very tight hairlines. 1 you can only see from the inside. And the other is noticeable from the outside. I have shown these in my images. Also there is a very small hole or"ping" maybe from the firing itself. This is on the top of handle. None of these are serious. There is a minor staining on the inside of the mug at the bottom. It is marked on the bottom"Jul Hausman. NY" Maybe for advertising. The scrolled handled is a hard to find feature. Please ask any questions you might have prior to purchase. There are no returns. I will answer all questions and ship next business day after payment is made. Packed well. I ship very fast. These American made stoneware ... moremugs are getting harder to find. Thanks for looking! THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SALTGLAZE PITCHER ETCHED IN GOLD AROUND A MAGNOLIA ON ONE SIDE. THE WONDERFUL BOWL(once used for water bathing) HAS A SMALL LINEAR CRACK DOWN ONE SIDE TO THE MIDDLE OF THE BOW. I think an expert could really fix this crack and make it look like new) IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND A NOTE ON EBAY. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. THE OTHER PARTS OF THIS SET ARE LISTED SEPARATELY. IF YOU WISH TO PURCHASE THE OTHER ARTICLES I WILL WORK OUT THE POSTAGE FOR YOU AND MAKE IT LESS EXPENSIVE FOR YOU THAN CHARGING FOR EACH ITEM.
