Antique English 19th Century Soft Paste Porcelain Jug or Pitcher with Gilt Trim English antique soft paste porcelain jug from the mid 1800’s. The ornate soft paste jug is a beautiful lavender-blue and white and features two allegorical scenes on the side panels in relief. One scene depicts a woman holding a Caduceus. The staff carried by Hermes in Greek mythology, and a child sitting on her lap as two young children pull her carriage. The second scene depicts a woman in a carriage being pulled by two dogs as a putto with baskets of flowers hovers above her. A simple border that terminates in a shell form, surrounds both of the scenes. The front of the jug depicts a tree. There pitcher is accented with brilliant gilt trim and decoration throughout and the front of the pitcher has a decorative gilt monogram on the front. The jug is unsigned ... moreand unmarked. There is a bit of faint gilt loss, particularly on the rim, lip of the spout and on the acanthus leaf handle. There is a tight ¼” hairline on the interior where the handle meets the body and another 1” tight hairline on the bottom rim. The hairline does not go into the interior or prevent water storage. Old Gaudy Decorated Soft Paste Mug with Copper Lustre
Here is an antique soft paste type china mug with gaudy decoration. It has no makers marks. It has some copper lustre striping in the blue colors. On top side rim. There is a small slightly pushed-in edge just below rim. It looks like it was grabbed there before it was fired. Nothing much really but noted for accuracy. See last photo. Otherwise it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. It measures 3 1/4 inches in outside diameter at opening. It stands 3 1/16 inches tall. A very nice mug. 19th Century English Sprig Ware Soft Paste 29 pc Tea Set Irish Shamrocks Teapot
You are bidding on a 29 piece 19th century English china. Sprig Ware soft paste Tea Set in a hand-painted Irish Shamrock or Cloverleaf pattern. I would date the set circa 1850 because of the geometic shapes. I am certain it is English Sprig Ware and have seen it called soft paste but that may not be absolutely correct. I am just listing it as I have seen other pieces of this type listed. Overall this a stunning. rare set for the number of matching pieces included. They are as follows with all condition problems noted carefully: 9 cups- 2 of the cups have very small firing cracks and one firing defect by the handles as seen in photos. 7 cups are without any problems to call. No chips. Cracks or discoloration. 12 saucers- 8 have no chips. Cracks or discoloration. 4 have very minor defects. Eighth inch firing rim crack. Some glaze defects, small ... morespots of discoloration. Flea bite chip on back side of one saucer. 2- 9 inch plates- fancy molded raised pattern. No chips, cracks some small specks under glaze. Probably were serving plates for cookies. Cakes etc. Tea Pot- 8 1/4 tall x 11 1/8 wide no chips. Repairs, cracks, or stains, some small black dots in glaze on inside. Sugar Bowl- 6 1/4 tall x 6 1/2 wide no chips or cracks. Very minor glaze wear to the bottom of the final also a slight discoloration on bottom of finial and inside lid. Waste Bowl- 6 1/2 wide x 3 1/2 tall no chips. Cracks or discoloration. Creamer- 5 1/4 Tall x 5 1/2 Wide. Minor discoloration on handle(it looks like the glaze was thin) and base rim has spots of minor discoloration. Black speck on upper rim under the glaze. Overall a very clean set in great condition with no repairs. The glaze that was used had very small black specks in it so you find them slightly in all the pieces. They in no way distact from the overall appearance. The green shamrock decoration is very charming and in excellent condition. There is no wear at all to the painted decoration. Antique 18th century cup(no handle) and saucer. Hand-painted silver luster pattern. The sticker that is on it was on it when I purchased it. Perhaps Bristol is the pattern and 1790 is the exact date, but in researching I can't verify this. Please look at the pictures closely as there is roughness and wear evident especially around the rim of the cup and the rim of the saucer(the saucer may have a very small hairline but it may also just be the glaze, I can see it on the outside of the saucer but not the inside) Some crazing also evident. Lovely antique Lowestoft bowl- Chinese Export- soft paste porcelain- 18th Century. The bowl stands 3 1/4 inches tall and is 6 5/8 inches in diameter at the top. There is a faint hairline crack but it does not distract from the beauty or usability of this piece. Hand decorated with flowers and scrolls in reds. Blues, greens on a light blue-gray background. 1760s English Soft Paste Porcelain 5 inch Figurine (Spring; Derby?, Bow?, or?)
Soft paste Porcelain Putto symbolic of Spring(one of the Four Seasons) with applied leaves. Florets with egg yellow& black centers, braided hair and minimal additional enameled decoration on a plain base with very minor damage and dating from the late 1750s or 1760s(for full details, continue reading below) Welcome to a mid-winter February Special Sale Listing and. enjoy! ITEM DETAILS: Wonderful early English porcelain figurine of a female child with braided hair carrying a basket of flowers on a simple base adorned with leaves and flower heads(symbolic of Spring in a four seasons theme) The young person is leaning against a short tree stump and wearing puce and soft blue drape around her left hip. The figurine is well painted with her brown hair finely detailed to accent her long braid formed into a circle and ending in a tight knot(see ... moreclose-up photo) Her brown hair is not painted with a brush but instead scratched with a fine needle to remove some coloring so that one can see both individual strands and braiding. Her face is also expertly painted with her eyebrows again painted with a single hair as a brush and painted in brown and made from placing 12 to 15 short curving brush strokes each. Her eyes have black pupils set within brown irises and each also has a small red tear duct in the corner. The girls nose has her nostrils outlined in light brown and her lips are colored blood red. Other details include small applied flowers with six pedals and bright yellow(egg yellow) centers topped with a tiny dark blackish-brown dot. Other important characteristics include two distinct shades of green on the applied leaves: a common green(translucent grassy green) and a bluish-green(weak turquoise green) Some of the iron red flowers were painted using a fine single hair brush and taking 25 to 30 individual brush strokes. Early 19th C Fancy English Sprig Ware Teapot Hand Painted Soft Paste Sprigware
Up for your consideration is a large fancy Sprig Ware 19th Century English Teapot. Circa 1840. I have also seen this type of ceramic referred to as soft paste but I am not sure this is correct but it is definately English Sprig Ware. This is a finely molded teapot with delicate hand painting. The teapot is in very good condition. There are no cracks, stains, or repairs. The paint is crisp and fresh looking with no wear. There is a very tiny chip on the inside of the lid, see photo. The chip is barely noticable and looks worse in the picture than in person. There is also a chip on the bottom of the teapot just about directly under the spout. Although this chip is larger it is not obvious. I actually did not see it until I was looking at the photos I took. The glaze has some small dark specks throughout mostly in the inside. This is consistent ... morewith the age of and manufacturing methods when this was made. None of these defects in any way deter from it's almost pristine look. DESCRIPTION: STAFFORDSHIRE HANDLED SERVING PLATE England* Early 1800's. Soft paste porcelain. Tab handles that have a raised scroll design in the porcelain. Sprig design is hand-painted with kelly green leaves and cobalt blue blossoms. Plate measures 10-3/4" from handle to handle. Very good condition-no chips. Cracks, or staining. Only wear to note are some utensil scratches. There are a couple of minor manufacturing imperfections-a small 1/8" black spot in the porcelain under the glaze(near the edge) and a fissure crack on the underside resting ridge. Antique Soft Paste Childs Plate"Boy With Broken Drum" 1810-1840 England Rare This is a charming and rare antique childs plate in soft paste. With a black and white transfer in the center of a boy with his broken drum.The transfer was imperfect when it was done as the title, Boy with broken Drum, is almost obscured in two areas. The border is embossed with flowers which were hand painted. There is some very minor flaking on the edges in two spots, fine overall crazing, some loss of glaze on the edge of the rim, and no cracks or chips. There are a few light utensil scratches.The plate is 8 1/4" in diameter. While I am not an expert, I believe the plate is English Staffordshire circa 1810-1840. There is no makers mark. There is some staining and chips on the lid of the teapot(see picture) There is a crack on the underside of the creamer(see pitcher) and a few chips on the inner opening of the sugar(see picture)

Antique Soft Paste Figurine, 18th C, Three Figure Group, Derby? Bow?
This fine. Early, hand-painted porcelain figurine is a grouping of three children; two little boys pulling a little girl on a small chariot. The flowers and leaves are applied, there is gold detail and some tiny painted beading along the girl's skirt. The overall condition is excellent. There is some loss of gold detailing along edges where it would have been handled; perfectly normal for an item this old. The underside has a low, inner rim, which acts as a pedestal(perhaps it sat on a real pedestal at one time) Along the inside of this rim is a small chip, which cannot be seen unless the figurine is turned upside down. This is not really a detriment, as it gives further proof that this is a soft-paste item. The chip reveals a graininess that is not seen with hard-paste. There are numerous markings on the base, but none that were definitive. ... moreSome hand-painted markings are partially obliterated with age. Impressed in the center of the base is the number"88" above a horizontal line. Beneath this line are three parallel, slightly diagonal lines. The chip mentioned above is the only flaw. There are no chips, cracks or repairs that could be found. This item measures 4 5/8 inches long, 2 7/8 inches wide, and 4 inches tall. We believe this item to have been manufactured circa 1750. It is very like Derby or Bow items of that period, but we can't be sure. Pearlware Pink Lustre Dish and 2 Saucers Soft Paste
Antique Pearlware Pink Lustre Dish and 2 Saucers Soft Paste c. 1805-1830 F or auction three pieces of Pearlwear: A dish and two saucers. The saucers do not have cup rings so. Or course, can be used as sauce dishes. All three are hand decorated in a lovely floral pattern surrounding clusters of fruit. Colors include pink lustre, yellow, blue, green and dots of cobalt blue in little clusters that resemble grapes. The saucers are marked with a pattern number 928 and a circle with a dot inside. But no manufacturer name. The bowl is unmarked but decorated with the same pattern as the saucers. D uring some recent research I discovered information about luster decoration and believe these to be from that early 19th century. See Geoffrey Godden's"Guide to English Porcelain" 1978. 1992) page 164 plate 172. Godden writes"Luster effects ... moreon British porcelains mainly falls into the period 1805-1830 but unfortunately very few specimins were marked. M easurements: Bowl is 7 1/2 inches in diameter and about 1 3/8 inch deep. Each sauce measures 5 1/2 inches across and a little over 1 inch deep C ondition: Decoration on the bowl is very bright with just minimal signs of wear. The saucers appear to have been more used as the lustre ring at the cavetto on each is quite worn as is the cluster of fruits in the center and the little blossoms on the rim. One sauce has a hairline which runs from the footring on the bottom to the rim. It has not released and is barely visible on the face. The bowl and one sauce each chime like a bell when tapped. Antique c. 1820 English Staffordshire Soft Paste Pitcher w/ Deer Hunting Scene
This somewhat large(not a small cream pitcher or a syrup pitcher) pink luster-painted porcelain jug from England. It probably dates back to around 1820. Its height at spout 6 5/8" Width from handle to spout 6 1/2" depth at belly 4 3/8" It is unmarked except for two letters or numbers on the base, hard to read but might say"85" and I don't know the meaning of the mark. This is what is called Staffordshire soft paste pottery, and typical of Staffordshire it depicts a country scene on each side. One side features two deer resting under a tree and the other side features a deer being hunted down by 2 dogs. There are green leaves and pink lustre branches accenting the raised pattern around the edges and the handle is shaped like a branch. The colors in the hand painted design are still very clear and bright but there ... moreare spots where the green paint on some of the leaves and especially the brown paint on some flowers on the bodies of the deer have worn away due to age. There is hardly if any other usage wear and there are no chips, breaks, or repairs. There is crazing on the inside of the rim and there is one crazing line darker than others, sort of looks like a hairline but doesn't show on front of pitcher so unsure. There are also about three or four pinhead size dots on the rim which might be places where the glaze popped to reveal unglazed areas, and some dirt might emphasize these. I say this to be as specific as I can be-I think these are really minor but I want you to have ALL the specifics and I also want you to ask me if anything needs clarification. Be sure to look at all the pictures. In researching this item I found a similar item on Ebay, but much smaller, for more than double the price, and an almost identical item having been sold by an internet antique site for 50% more than my asking price, albeit that one had no paint loss. Antique Soft Paste Staffordshire? Hand Colored Transferware Mug w Acorns,Flowers
This large and lovely antique soft-paste staffordshire-type mug has a beautiful. Hand-painted transfer pattern of acorns, leaves and multicolored flowers. I believe it dates from mid-1800’s. But I have no way to confirm this. It measures approximately 4” in diameter and 4” tall. There are two tiny clustered“spider webbing” spots on the inside of the mug. And a light surface crack which goes vertically down on the inside of the mug. This crack does not appear on the outside of the mug. Made of soft paste porcelain, spherical in form, with quatrefoil lobed sides. A short curved neck, two square handles, four supports. Binding of La Promenade 1668 And my favorite part is the marbled sides as a Trompe L'oeil effect for pages. Interior is lined in gold paper. I think it was most probably used as a Bonbonniere. So rare and beautiful.Condition has been repaires. A crack in the center of the front cover above the putti. It has been repaired to appear as part of the road. 2 Vtg 6" Small Made In Japan Plates Soft Paste Porcelain & Bone China
This is for two very pretty. Orange and red toned Japan plates. They are both 6" plates and the one with the tree is the bone china and the one with the flowers is the soft paste porcelain. These are both marked Japan and the one with the flowers reads, Hand Painted but I think the other one is hand painted also. The plate with the flowers shows just a little wear to the paint but the one with the tree show no wear. These plates have no chips, cracks, or hairline cracks. Very pretty plates. Hand-painted leaf design in pink and outlined in a lavender pink lustre enamel; details added in royal blue enamel. Slight scallop to edge of plate. Plates measure 6-7/8" in diameter. Condition: No cracks or staining; utensil scratches are minimal. There is wear. However, to the lustre edges and to the enamel at the raised ridge of the plates. Also, on the first plate there is a black pinpoint dot in the porcelain on the front which occurred during manufacturing. Very nice and rare example of an early Satsuma soft paste porcelain vase. The vase is just under 6" high and 3" at its widest around. The condition is just what you would expect from one of these. Pristine are almost unheard of. There is some crazing. Chips around the rim as seen in the photos, and some fading of color. BUT, this is a nice example of this type of early vase. Amazing Blue and White Soft-paste Transfer Ware Bowl. English. Possibly Dutch, the scene is Dutch with a bit of an asian feel to it. Condition is near perfect, there is a tiny firing crack about 1/4" long on the top edge, as can be seen in the 3rd. picture, otherwise there are not breaks, chips or repairs. There is crazing to the glaze as is to be expected for a piece of this age. Dimensions are Height-1.5" Diameter-6.5" Circa 1850 or earlier. This is a beautiful pair of pre-1850 soft paste sprig décor plates in near-mint condition. There are no chips or cracks. And the small marks on the fronts of each plate are from the firing stilts used in the kiln during firing. They were painted with a refined hand not given to overdoing the decoration. Each plate measures 7 inches in diameter. Both plates have a spotty kind of glazing miss along sections of the very outside rims. This is not damage. For your consideration is an antique German Soft Paste Piano Baby/ Bust/ Figurine of a young girl in a bonnet. The piece has lovely soft muted colors ranging from robin's egg blue. Pinks and creams. There is quite a bit of detail to this piece. It has been sitting in an area that has accumulated a bunch of dust and I have not attempted to clean it. In the second to last second image, I tried to show a close up of an old repair to the arm area. The repair basically encompasses the entire elbow area. Plate measures about 8 1/2" in diameter. It is in good condition overall. There is a chip at edge about 1/2" across and brown-colored. There is some glaze wear to outside edge with some areas of brown coloration and a couple smaller flakes. Interior of plate shows some utensil marks and glaze wear on close examination. Back side shows some wear to footrim with darkening and some craze lines in the central area. Not quite perfect but still a great piece. NO RESERVE. Offered for auction today. Is this lovely antique soft paste milk pitcher with rose and leaf design. It measures 7 3/4" high x 7 3/4" wide. The pitcher is white with dark pink hand painted flowers and green leaves and vines. This charming piece actually comes with provenance. I reprinted the old notes that were found inside the pitcher when I purchased it a number of years ago. The pitcher was purchased from a New Bedford, Massachusetts antique shop about 7 years ago. As far as condition goes, it is very good for the age of it. It has some crazing throughout the piece. Also it has numerous very small rim chips and some tiny, tiny flecks on the handle. There are some age spots on the interior of the pitcher but no noticeable hairlines or cracks that I could find. It is sturdy and intact. A very pretty and very old piece!

RARE& FINE 17th/ 18thC CHINESE SOFT PASTE FIGURAL PLATE KANGXI c1700 MING MARK A highly striking and extremely unusual late seventeenth/ early eighteenth century Chinese SOFT PASTE porcelain plate. This example dates to the Kangxi Reign c1700. The soft paste porcelain finely painted in pleasing tones and washes of sapphire blue with a Chinese scholar/ elder gesturing to an infant sweeping the floor within a interior setting, the border with fruit(pomegranates? painted panels interspersed with a profusion of trellis diaper as shown. The reverse of the plate is painted with landscapes and figures in boats, the plate is marked with a retrospective Ming(1368-1644) reign mark within double blue concentric circles as shown with a well levigated foot ring which one would associate with a piece from this period. This plate measures 9 ¼ inches ... morein diameter approx and is in very good condition, there is a small rim chip as shown and another rim imperfection as shown(at first appearance looks like a small piece broken out of rim and re-adhered, however given there is no evidence to back this up, it may not have been, please make your own minds up- defect shown from front and back last two photos as you see its near invisible from front) the piece is otherwise in good order and as clearly shown(some crazing lines in glaze) This is a rare object which I offer competitively priced and without reserve. Antique Soft Paste Stick Spatter 1874 Shipwreck China
Up for sale is an antique soft paste stick spatter English made 19th Century bowl recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. Paterns were cut out of sponges which were stamped out on the pottery surface to create the design. After, roses and foliage is hand painted. What makes these bowls a bit more desirable is the information to the shipwreck this piece was picked from. It was recovered from the sea in 1992, Being under the ocean for almost 120 years. There are minor rim chips, as well as some minor glaze losses on back. Please see the photos. Handpainted with coral and shell finials and floral sprays. Tri-footed. With damage and repair to one foot. Underplate measures 16" long x 12" wide. The tureen meases 10" tall x 13" long x 7" wide. Very good vintage condition with all things considered. The tureen shows minor expected wear to some of the hand-painted areas. This auction is for a Fantastic and Very Old Pair of Matching Soft Paste Saucers or Shallow Bowls. They are in a classic Chinoiserie scene with Imari Colors of Cobalt Blue. Iron Red, Pink, Peach and Green with Copper Luster Highlights and Outlines. The pattern is hand painted with great. Intricate artistic detailing: a woman under a parasol is being served by a short man as a bald Asian man sits nearby arranging flowers against a Large Urn with blossing blooms. Above, a green bird is perches on a limb. Like I said. Intricate. They are in very good condition. Especially for their age. There are no chips or cracks or repairs in either piece. The colors and images are vibrant and bold. They were a recent estate sale find. There are no backstamps or marks. A previous owner placed a sticker on each indicated they were"early S underland circa ... more1800. By the form and feel of the soft paste. I believe they are from the very early 1800s and could have been made in the Sunderland area of England given the use of luster glazing. Whatever their origin. DUTCH BOY ALL PURPOSE SOFT PASTE WHITE LEAD PAIL
