An antique. Ovoid, stoneware jug standing 11½ inches tall. The base measures 4¾ inches in diameter and the middle measures about 8 inches in diameter. It is decorated with cobalt near the handle. I think it is marked: WRITTIER& GUILD/ DRUGS MEDICINES/ PAINTS OIL& DYE STUFF/ BANGOR. The first 3 letters of Writtier are nearly illegible and I may have the spelling wrong. The words"Drugs Medicines" are very light also. Several small base rim chips and some surface wear. No cracks. Hairlines, repairs or significant chips. Some of the markings are difficult to read. It looks to be about 1 gallon. It is in very good condition with the exception of a chip on the top of the spout as shown in the picture. Some of the bluing has worn off of the lettered impressions. For sale is an Antique Pickle or Kraut Jug 4/5 Gallon with a Wide Mouth. This is a piece of North Carolina Stoneware circa 1900 made for domestic use. The jug is 8" tall and 5.75" in diameter at the base. It is 2.75" at the opening. The jug is in good antique condition with no real chips and only manufacturing flaws and related ageing defects. The jug still holds water. There are markings on the base but they are indistinguishable either from wear or age. Please examine the photos carefully. Scarce Early 19th C. 3 Gallon Cobalt Floral Decorated Ovoid Stoneware Jug Jar NR
A scarce 3 gallon cobalt floral decorated stoneware jug from S.S. Perry& Co. in West Troy. New York. This is an exceptional example from a fairly rare& short lived Capitol District maker from upstate New York. Sanford Perry established the first stoneware pottery in West Troy in 1833 at a site along the Erie Canal on Champlain Street. It is in excellent condition with a small kiln touch on one side and a very small nick on the bottom, there are no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. This piece measures 14 1/2" tall, the top opening is 2" in diameter, the bottom is 5 1/2" in diameter& the circumference of the jug is just over 36" 3 feet! A magnificent early German Stoneware bulbous WESTERWALD JUG, circa 1700

This is a magnificent and imposing Westerwald jug- certainly one of the nicest we have had the pleasure of selling on eBay( scroll down for photos) This wonderful tavern jug is approximately 7 ⅞ inches tall and the base diameter is 3 ⅜ inches. It is a beautiful fat-bellied shape measuring 6 inches in diameter at the widest point. The body is decorated with skillfully applied sgraffito foliage with large applied'Tudor Rose' medallions at the ends of the stems. The handle has an attractive folded terminal and there are two pierced holes at the top where a pewter lid ... morewould have been fitted. This handsome jug is unusual in that the main body color is a stunning manganese or blackberry color while the flower heads are finished in blue. More often it is the other way around. The condition is superb overall. There is one slice chip on the rim(see photograph#2. Below) and a faint hairline that runs across the base. This is a lovely Doulton Lambeth stoneware advertising water jug for Dewar’s Scotch Whisky which dates from around 1895. It measures approximately 6.5 inches(16.5 cm) tall and has a pinched spout and decorative strap handle. The top half has a glossy greenish brown glaze with applied white slip lettering‘DEWAR’S PERTH WHISKY’ and there are white slip illustrations of farming and hunting scenes below. Between these is printed‘John Dewar& Sons Limited. Distillers, Perth’ and the Royal Warrant of Queen Victoria. In good condition with no chips. Cracks or restoration. Nice Old Antique Bowker's Pyrox, Crock Earthenware Stoneware Pottery Jar, Jug
Here's another of the nice old or antique jars. Jugs and bottles of the stoneware, earthenware or crockery type we'll be listing. This one is in very nice condition and has embossed lettering"Bowker's" and"Poison" and advertising under the glaze as well, Bowker's Pyrox" A combined Insecticide and fungicide" The company was"Bowker Insecticide Co" for those looking up details on the internet. Interestingly in most recent years this had been used to hold a handful of wooden spoons and other kitchen utensils in the kitchen. This type of stoneware is often called a crock or crockery or earthenware or pottery in this area. Originally this had a wire bail and probably a wood handle as the eyelets are still present. It is a wide mouth at about 2.5 inches inside diameter, It is about 5.75 inches ... morein diameter at the base with a uniform body that reduces down to about 3.5 inches in diameter near the top. It stands about 7.25 inches tall. There are two marks of note on the bottom edge we show in the pictures. One is a very small surface flake and the other is a very old impact mark with surface spider lines very likely made when this was being made. You can see two other indents to the clay under the glaze on the underside that show these were somewhat roughly handled during the manufacturing process. The glaze is in very nice condition. There are a couple discoloration marks that probably are under the glaze or where the glaze was applied more thickly and later darkened. Very nice overall. That's about it. The pictures should be helpful to those having interest. We'll start this old primitive pottery or stoneware wide mouth jar or jug low so enjoy the auction. We'll pack this carefully. Here is a nice jug made in Geddes N.Y. In the middle to late 1800s. It has a beetle in cobalt blue and Geddes N.Y. ar the top of jug with the number two under it.The pictures are not so good.so if you want more I will take them outside.It's 14 and a half inches tall and about 9 and a quarter wide.It's in great shape and was bought at a estate sale where they had others that they were collecting.I already explained the minor cosmetics. Hello! Here is a nice scratch mini that I believe is a pretty tough one to come by. Compliments of Kautt& Sass 105 N Market St Louisville Ky. A different shape than your usual mini and a great looking piece for a nice collection. There is a lip flake off of one side as seen and a small flake on the other along with a base one that appears in the making. Its oversized some and measures 3 7/8" tall by 2 7/8" at the widest part. Rare Jacksonville Fl stoneware advertising jug Peoria Pottery
For auction is a rare Peoria Pottery advertising jug from Florida. Embossed in the clay is"John Clark Son& Co Jacksonville Fla" This mark is a little hard to read as it was stamped into the clay. Then glazed over with albany slip and fired. Also marked near the bottom base is"Peoria Pottery" which went out of business in 1902. Could not find any information on John Clark on the internet. Most likely was a saloon or possibly a merchant in early Jacksonville. This is a 1 gallon jug. Has a bright glaze in spots. Could not see any cracks. Chips or repairs. This is a vintage stoneware jug for Mitchell Brothers Limited. Heather Dew scotch. The Greybeard" Nice small size, would make for a great display piece- just under 7" high and about 4.25" diameter at the base. Made in Scotland and stamped"Possil Pottery Glasgow" with a number 4 inside that logo on bottom. Very good condition- no chips or cracks. The transfer is still bold, paper label on back is mostly intact. Contents and Strength are printed on opposite sides of the paper label. No cork, no contents.
