It is glazed in a white with a polychrome transfer. This is a large platter measuring abour 14-1/4 by 11-1/4 inches. This design and this mark indicate that this piece is most likely from the 1930's or 40's, but I am not sure of this. This piece is in very good used condition with no damage at all and only the moderate usage wear as expected for a piece of this age. I have tried to show the worst of this utensil wear on the central design in close-up. It will still display very well. This very nice example of mid 20th century Staffordshire earthenware is offered with a very reasonable opening bid which recognizes its limitations. RARE ANTIQUE 1846 Historic Staffordshire Platter Iron Stone Blue, Eagle w/Shield
18th Century Staffordshire Transfer Platter T. Ford& Company This estate sale find is an 18th century Staffordshire Platter and is an antique collector's must-have! It is dated 1846 and is extremely rare! The platter has an eagle& shield. And a globe with"America" printed on it. The back side has a stamped hatchet and the wording: REAL Iron Stone. We attempted to take a photo of this stamp(see photos) The platter measures approx. 13 3/4" wide x 10 7/8" tall x 1 1/4" deep. It is in amazingly good condition given its age. Although it does show some wear. There are a few spots on front and back where it has been repaired/touched up. The repairs. Or"touch-ups, are very good, as if professionally done, as we did not even notice them at first glance. These spots were possibly chips at one point. There are ... more3 such touched-up spots on the front rim, and 1 on the back rim. There appears to be a re-touching/re-painting of the design with a hard epoxy clear coat on top. We are not experts but it does not look like the chipped-off pieces have been simply glued back on. The largest repair on the front(approx. 3/4" square) is at the right edge and is slightly raised as if the epoxy coat is thicker than the platter itself. Because this is an antique(over 165 years old! which was owned by someone else. There may be other imperfections we have not noticed or are not aware of. This platter has been used. And has a few scratches on the top surface because of it. There are no chips or cracks and the transfer is totally intact. There is crazing more evident on the back surface where it seems to show up clearer. The scene on the front involves three people and farm animals( sheep& cows) as well as a herding type dog behind the couple. The maker's mark appears on the back. We are a smoke free home. Has a 1/16" chip on the bottom edge of the rim and has a 1/2" hairline runnin g from it.the hairline do es not run to the surface and the chip is hard to see when the platter is flat.I believe the chi p and hairline was in the making. I've looked at it closely and can see glaze over it.there is absolutely no crazing. The color is wonderful with a handsome oak leaf and acorn border.Clarisse Cli ff pieces are known for their fine coloring. This platter displays perfect. However it has had a professional repair. There was a piece that was broke out of the side and glued back in. They also did some in painting after gluing the piece back in to make it invisible. It is hard to find these larger platter's in this series. It show some signs of use, but displays great. Adams Columbus Black Transfer Platter This platter is approx 14 1/2" long and approx. 11" high. It has a sticker on the front from a store called Enchanted in Lynchburg Virgi nia on the front(I looke d it up and it is an Antique store) Handwritten on this sticker it says Adams As Is $350. On the back of the platter t here is a paper label with some glue? around it. It looks like the paper label might come off but there is a discoloration around it not sure from what. That label has handwritten on it. WM ADAMS there is a second line I can't make out possibly says my son? Underneath that i s written 1800 to 1830. On the back there is a piece of clear tape that I have not tried to remove. The mark on the back is done in black and Says Columbus WA&S. There appears to be a chip on the front top on the rim(see the photos) It seems ... moreto be in pretty good shape other than that. With minimal crazing. No cracks. I'm not an expert by any means. I was given this as a gift many yea rs ago from a friend of mine who knows I love platters. If you would like additional p hotos or information please let me know. Measurements, and the condition of the pieces that are included in this set. 1- Small Oval Serving Bowl- 9" diameter. 6 3/4" wide, 1 7/8" tall. This bowl has no chips or cracks. There is a rough spot on one of the corners in the middle of the design. There is also a small unglazed place on the base as well as small bruise on the base. It has some loss to the design. 7-Square Soup Bowls- 7 3/4" in diameter. 1 5/8" tall. Five ... moreof the bowls have no chips or cracks. One bowl has a small fleabite on the edge and another has a spider hairline. The design only has a small amount of loss and is mostly intact.
