The actual vase is made to look like a brick wall. It has no markings on it. It is in good condition. There is just a tiny chip to the corner of the hat on the lady on the right. Offered for sale is this original nineteenth century STAFFORDSHIRE pottery figural spill vase. It features a large ewe sheep in front of a tree that forms the vase. The sheep has great frit"wool" The vase measures 7" high and 5" across at the base. This piece is in very good estate condition with no chips. Cracks, crazing of the glaze or repairs noted. There are a couple of firing lines on the bottom of the base-not at all an issue but mentioned for accuracy. This fine figural spill vase should be welcome in any collection! Downton Abbey Style! Genuine recreation of an antique Staffordshire Spill Vase. Ever wanted to own your own Castle? Malakoff" shows a fortified castle perched high on the hill. The actual historical castle Malakoff was part of the Sebastopol complex. Which fell to the allies in September 1855 during the Crimean War. This ceramic spill vase is intended to hold slivers of tree bark or wood(used to transfer fire from the fireplace to either a candle, stove or pipe) The large central tower and end tower are hollow and open at the top. Spill vases were an essential part of a home heated by the fireplace, lit by candlelight or oil lamps, and which used a wood or peat burning cook stove. A spill vase such as this was an important addition to the mantle, providing a place to keep the wood"spills" close at hand. The interior should ... morebe fully glazed(I cannot tell for certain-it's dark in there) Perfect for mantle or book shelf. If you're the crafty type. Make the figurine into a lamp base. I would use this on the mantle for the holidays or year-round home decor. A charming addition for a country home decor. Staffordshire pieces are often fully dimensional. But forms are often layered and overlapped so as to make the production more affordable and the final pieces more sturdy. In addition, surface texture is often played with to make the final piece have more dimension. This piece has the applied textured foliage"Bocage" sometimes called"coleslaw" decoration) The towers have turrets on the front of the form. There are 37 circular pierced windows, each with black accent painting around the rim. The name" MALAKOFF" is raised up from the form and is handpainted with gold. Bottom is stamped 34 and MADE IN CZECHO- SLOVAKIA(Czechoslovakia) At first I thought this was made to set in a bowl of water with flower stems inserted into the 3 holes but I did manage to find another parrot like this and it is called a SPILL VASE and was placed on a fireplace mantel to hold rolled paper tapers called spills which were used to transfer fire from the fireplace to another place in the home like a candle. I did see a piece of paper inside the one hole and as I tried to get it out. It fell inside the vase. Overall this looks to be in nice condition with only a small white'scratch' or possibly missed paint glaze from the factory? on the top of the bird's head and a little near the tip of his tail feathers. This is an Edwardian. Silver Spill Vase measuring 8 inches in height. It has a circular base, a tapering stem and the rim is fluted. It is fully hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the assay mark for Birmingham, the date code for the year 1906 and the makers initials W.A. There is damage, there is a large dent on the underside of the rim and I have provided a close up photograph, there is a small dent on the base of the vase and also dings on the stem.

Base has number 6154& further handwriting in what looks like lead pencil- also there is a mark shaped a little like a xmas tree in shiny glaze- a further impressed mark can be seen by'scuff' mark(almost obscured) which happened when unfired clay contacted surface when it was made. Brightly colored shiny glaze contrasts beautifully with the pale blue interiors of the match& spill vases& pink spent match well. Looks like the similar glazes used by well known potteries. I will throw out a couple of names.Delphin Massier& Minton who used similar colorations to this.if u know.I sure would appreciate the knowledge. Early 1900's Erphila double spill vase with a parrot perched right in the middle. I just LOVE this piece! The vase part and base is done in a lusterware glaze with a very dark grayish blue border. The bird is a glossy blue and yellow macaw and his tail feathers sort of wrap around the bottom bar of the perch. This porcelain piece is marked Erphila Bavaria. We have estimated it to have been made in the 1920's-1930's but it could even be earlier than this as it has a very Victorian feel to it. It is in excellent condition even considering its age. We see no chips. Cracks or repairs. There is a line acrosee the back of the vase on the left which is a manufacturing flaw because it is glazed over with the original lusterware glaze. Overall. A Royal Worcester fruit painted Spill Vase. Signed by H. Ayrton. The Vase is clearly marked G 923. The small square above Made in England denotes it was made in 1928. The design of the vase is of waisted cylindrical form. It is beautifully painted with fruits. It stands just over 6 inches tall. It is 3 inches wide at the top& 2 1/2 inches at the base. These are very hard to find& quite rare. The vase is in excellent condition. I do have two vases but one sadly is broken. I will just include it in the sale. At no extra charge. It might be able to be restored. Throughout the history of Royal Worcester there have been many highly skilled artists but at no time was this more evident than with the talented and exciting group of painters assembled there in the 1920s. Antique German Porcelain Dresden Boy Figurine Figural Vase Planter Spill Holder
This is a beautiful high quality vase which has a Piano Baby Boy Doll figurine attached to the front of a basket. He is holding a bouquet of porcelain flowers in his hand and there are also porcelain flowers on each side of the front of the basket. Unmarked except for an inscribed 13 on the base. But from the quality of this piece I believe him to be French or German made. Approximately 5 1/4 inches tall. 3 1/2 inches wide, and 4 3/4 inches deep. In excellent condition the only problem I could find is a small chip to the very edge of the corner on the top right side of the basket. And his right pinky finger is also chipped.
