This pretty spill vase dates from 1885 and was made in Birmingham by'A& JS' It measures 8 cm in height and the base measures 4 cm in diameter. At has a couple of shallow dints but these are not even easy to see because of the heavy repousse decoration. This is a lovely piece and is great condition. This is a wonderful gorgeous very RARE and SIGNED(marked) example of the bisque spill vase work of the famous porcelain bisque model artist Carl Schneider(who has worked closely with Unger and Hutschenreuther) It has the impressed mark G double arrow. With the DEP dating it to 1879- 1886 t he Early Victorian Period. Or Romantic Period, spanning 1837-1860. It is a boy figurine with a blue hat and sash leaning on a set of three columns. Gold is splashed on his necklace. Around the columns, and on the footers. There is some blue on the florals and footers as well. The top is open with deep pockets down each column to allow for the"spill" or match holder. Below is a description of a"Spill Vase" for those who are not familiar. It was usually kept on the mantle(fireplace) It was filled with rolled paper or very thin wood sticks(Spill) which where used to transfere fire from the fireplace to candles. Lamps or a gentlemans cigar. Matches being costly or dear. Carl Schneiders history and porcelain Marks(signed pieces) that verifies age: Based on a ducal concession. The businessman Carl Schneider(who had worked at the Wallendorf factory for some time) together with modelling artist Karl Unger and businessman Hermann Hutschenreuther founded their business in 1859. As Hutschenreuther was a sleeping partner. His name does not appear in the company name until 1885. At first the company only produced tableware. Miniature sets for children and a few kitchen utensils, mostly decorated in the cobalt blue'Zwiebel- and'Strohblumenmuster' styles which sometimes included gilding. Early piece has the English Registry mark dating this design to June 30 th. 1864 having the Royal Worcester factory stamp that was used up to 1890. This piece has an ivory base color and is trimmed in black with a semi“old eggshell” feel. Each vase has a raised lion head on the side and a top handle which are all conjoined with a lovely knot form décor. It measures approx.4¾” tall by 4½” wide and is in excellent antique condition free of any chips. Cracks, crazing or repairs; shows little wear. There are a few tiny foxing spots in one vase. Antique Bisque Spill Vase I do not have an EXACT maker but after doing MONTHS of research I have found several pieces that are nearly identical to this with the same markings on the bottom(except the 4 numbers under the arrows were different of course) The detailing that runs up the leg of the boy is nearly IDENTICAL to a pair of figurines done by LaCourtillo or Rue Fontaine-au-Roy Paris. France. Dated between 1750-1800. Either way it is spectacular! It is a bud vase with 2 figures of children. One on a swing. There used to be a string that is now gone but can easily be replaced. It really isn't needed but if you wanted it to be EXACTLY as the original. The colors are VERY VIBRANT and all the little details are still in tact(like the rose petals. Their fingers, etc) Very, very detailed. Very pretty piece. It weighs nearly 2LBs(this is ... morew/o packaging. so please don't think my shipping costs are'out there. Absolutely stunning pair of silver plated antique Victorian log tree trunk silver plate spill vases. In the style of Christopher Dresser. These are incredibly stylish pieces, and would have stood proudly by the fire place. These are unmarked. So unsure of the original manufacturer. Each measure approx 15cm l x 6.5cm w x 8cm h In great condition. Plating is in excellent order and bright, small green tinge on of the x-branch feet, not an issue mentioned here for 100% accuracy- great items. A spill vase was usually kept on the mantel piece and was filled with rolled paper tapers or very thin wood sticks. Called spill. Spill was used to transfer fire from the fireplace to candles, lamps, a pipe or a cigar. Scroll down for more photos! There is no maker’s mark or label on this bisque porcelain vase. A mold number. 1438, is impressed on the back down by the base. A marking like this often indicates a German or Austrian origin. The vase is strongly art nouveau. The organic, asymmetric styling at the top rim uses forms that probably started as handles but have been co-opted to pure decoration. An elegantly svelte maiden rests at the side of the vase that seems modeled as ice dripped over stone. The piece may be an allegory of winter. Portions of the vase are applies with sponged colors in soft gold, dark brown and red. The vase stands about 6 ¼” tall to its high point. It measures about 4” across at its widest, 2 ½” front to back. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Old Spode Japan Pattern Hand Painted Spill Vase, Fence, Flowers, Cobalt Gold
This is an early. Unmarked English porcelain Spode spill vase in the Japanese pattern and palette. It is 3& 7/8" tall. It has a gold line and vestiges of the gold around the foot. It has a very rich design including a fence, flowers and foliage, all in the Imari palette of cobalt blue, iron red and lush gold accents. It has no chips, cracks or damage. Spill vases were originally made to sit on the mantel and hold the cones of paper with parafin on the bottom that were used to start fires. Now, we can use them as actual vases!

Old WATER LILY Blue Transfer Ware Spill Vase Venetian Semi-Porcelain Ironstone
Antique Venetian Semi-Porcelain Blue Transfer Ware Water Lily Vase. Fancy embossed scrolling feather fan design around top edge. Middle and bottom. Light blue or gray background with blue transferware pattern on both sides of water lilies and pads. Beautiful lily pad flowers are very detailed. Top of vase is scalloped with lip on each side, bulbous middle and gets smaller at bottom. Marked on bottom with stamped mark that reads Venetian in a banner. Measures 4 3/4 inches tall, 2 15/16 inches wide across top and is 2 5/16 inches wide across bottom base. Excellent condition except for there are some teeny tiny red paint flecks on one side. Rare Early c1910 Roosevelt Bears & Basket Bisque Figurine, Flat Back,Spill Vase?
This is a very old figurine of two bears carrying a basket. They are the Roosevelt bears- one brown and one blond. This is a hand painted piece that is unglazed. Some of the paint has worn off of the brown color on the brown bear. It may have been a spill vase to hold parafin tipped cones to start files. It was obviously made to stand on a mantle or shelf with a closed back as there is no color on the back. It has no marks as to the maker. It is 4& 1/4" tall and 4& 1/2" across the base. Other than the wear to the paint. It is in good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. A great old souvenir celebrating Teddy Roosevelt.

I believe this may have been a sugar sifter; however there is no lid(as found) and this would make a neat little spill vase or holder for long matches. DESCRIPTION: Up for auction is this beautiful Vintage Spill Glaze Art Pottery Vase Ribbed Mottled Brown& Mint Green Glaze German or USA Roseville MEASUREMENTS: It stands 6” tall and 6” wide including the handles.3 ¾” base diameter. MARKINGS: Indigo blue under glaze cross mark. The exact same symbol(the arms of Fulda) was used by the German pottery and porcelain company Fulda Hesse from 1765-1780.There aren’t many defects on the piece overall and it has a ¼” unglazed rim on the bottom.
