Lot of 3 miniature Toby Jugs. The largest is 3-1/2" tall and is"Snuffy" marke d on the bottom. I t's hard to see in the pictures. But it is stamped on the bottom. The smalles t one l o oks like Robin Hood. Marked on the bottom Royal Doulton, Made in England with an A on one side of the stamp and a black mark that looks like an'11' on the other side. He's only 2" tall. The last one is a jolly fellow with a jug of ale and a blue jacket. Marked on the bottom Made in England. He measure s 2-1/2" tall. These are all in excellent condition. No chips. Up for offering is this very nice pair of North Carolina handled brown jugs. Each is incised with the same artist mark on the bottom. I was unable to identify the maker. Although they look alike, both are very different from each other. Size and condition: one measures 3 1/2" height by 2 3/4" diameter. The second measure 3 1/4" height by 2 1/2" diameter. Exquisite Pair of Antique Silver and Amber Swirl Glass Decanters/Claret Jugs
Pair of Antique Silver and Glass Decanters. For auction are a pair of beautiful silver and glass decanters that look like they are probably French. The amber glass bottoms have a delicate swirl that moves in a clockwise pattern from the top to the bottom. The silver top has a hinged cover and intricately detailed collar with flowers and cross-hatched pattern with a cartouche on the front of the spout. The handle has a rope pattern. Both decanters are in very good condition with no chips. Cracks or breaks. They measure about 9 ½” tall to the top of the finial and about 7” wide(including the handle) It measures about 5” deep. I could find no marking on either piece and don’t know the composition of the silver. I also did not polish it so it retains its original patina. This special face jug stand 12 inches tall to the top of the cork and is 7 inches wide. Brief History of Southern Face Jugs. African-American face jug oral history was passed down from generation to generation. Slaves were not allowed to have tombstones. Sometimes pottery or even a face jugs served as their grave markers. The story handed down through the generations was that slaves placed personal items on their loved ones graves along with face jugs. Slaves from Africa revered their ancestors and participated what we might call ancestor worship. African slaves were taken to the Caribbean to be acclimated and there they picked up the religion of voodoo. Eventually ancestor worship. Fabulous Copper Lustre Ware! Five little pitchers/jugs measuring from 2.25" to 4.5" Overall really great shape. And so pretty! The tallest has a footed base and a cream colored band around the top with a design. Cool handle. No chips or cracks. The blue banded pitcher is also in good condition and is a bit sturdier looking without a footed base. It has a small chip on the side of the lip-visible in the photo. The jug with a gold band is identical to the blue banded one and also has a small chip on the lip. But on the top edge. It's an old one and it's difficult to see as it's dark. The jug with sand around the bottom has a repaired break/chip at the top. It's large and the repair is not that well done so it will have to be turned around. The littlest pitcher is speckled with a drawing of a coach and horses. None ... moreof these are marked except for the littlest. Which is Gray's English pottery. Sweet antique collection! ~ Vintage 1950s Burnished Mexican Brunido Pottery Miniature Lot ~ 4 Water Jugs ~
Excellent lot of five old burnished clay pottery miniatures from Mexico. The brunido style dates back to somewhere in the 1950s era. This type of clay was prized for the flavor it imparted to the water it held; I've tried it. And it's very earthy. These are all burnished rather than glazed; all are in the classic earth tones typical of this style. Included are a pitcher/urn. A typical water jug w/ handle, a small long-necked jug, and a botellone. The botellone has a small cup that inverts over the top of the jug opening; it's meant for night-time use. These are all in very good condition; there is some minor wear. As is common with this age of soft clay pottery. There are a few wee pits and a small amount of paint loss. But all of these are quite minor and rather unnoticeable except on very close inspection. The patina is wonderful ... moreon all of these pieces; it must be a lovely medium to work with. They measure. From tallest down: 5.5" by 3.25" 5.25" by 3.5" 5" by 3" and 4" by 2.5" Thus they are not tiny miniatures. But are much smaller than the'normal' utility-sized pieces. Striking lot that would make a display in and of themselves; these are also perfect scattered among pots of cacti or succulents. Shipping: please use the calculator. Sadly.
