This tiny piece of Chinoiserie, with elements of gothic and classical design, depicts a Queen escorted by a blackamoor holding a parasol and 2 children holding her train. Doris Lechler, in her book‘English Toy China’ attributes the pattern to Spode. According to the Transferware Collectors Club and others, it would have been made by Minton. It dates to 1820-1830. Like all known pieces in this pattern, this diminutive plate is unmarked. The quality of the form and detailing of the image is far superior to what would be expected on this diminutive sized piece. This sale is for a historical Staffordshire Saucer or Berry Bowl that is decorated in a blue and white floral pattern and with a typical Staffordshire floral border. The piece would have originally been sold with a cup but would be ideal as a berry bowl because of its size. The piece is 5-7/8" in diameter. There are no cracks. Hairlines or repairs. There is a small chip on the underside table rim of the piece. Also, the manufacturing sill marks are visible on the front of the piece. This is from the manufacturing and is typical of Staffordshire china from this time period. Overall the condition is very good. A Historical Staffordshire Pearlware Dark Blue Transferware Small Tureen c1820 ~ Bluebell Border Series ~ Cathedral& Bridge ~ Wm. Adams or Clews ~ 5 1/2" high ~ about 8" long from handle to handle ~ about 4" wide William Adams of Stoke active 1804 to 1829 made the Bluebell Border Series. Which consists of some 19 different named scenes. James& Ralph Clews produced a similar series, with the same border, but generally different views. This piece is unmarked with a view and not impressed with either maker's marks. The view on both sides of the bowl is a cathedral in the distance with a large tree and bridge in the foreground. Inside the bowl shows a large manor house, the lid is a scene of boys fishing at a stream with a house in the distance. It has nicely molded handles on either side that end in wide flowers or ... moreleaves. The four legs are leafy molded as well with acanthus like legs. The finial is a basket with different tiny fruits or berries in it. In excellent condition; there is no ladle. There is one small shallow chip on the rim at one end you can see in the close up pic. The lid has a very fine hairline coming from the ladle hole but very shallow and doesn't go through. Thanks for looking. No Reserve! Gorgeous Sapphire Blue Louisville Double Eagle Historical Flask, GII-24, Pint
We are pleased to offer this beautiful historical flask for sale. It was likely blown at the Kentucky Glass Works in Louisville. Kentucky around 1850. The color is a bright medium to light sapphire blue, not quite as deep as the first two photos but closer to the third picture of the top of the flask. It has a perfectly sheared mouth and open pontil scar. It is known as GII-24 in the McKearin flask numbering system. The impression in this flask is one of the best we've ever seen. The clarity of the glass is awesome. And there are nice swirled bubbles in the neck. However, there is a 1/2 inch"in making" cooling type fissure along one of the corrugated sides. It was definitely done in the manufacturing process, and partially passes through a large bubble and the mold seam(see close-up photos) There is also a small pinhead size ... moreopening in the cover glass of this bubble. It is important to note that an undamaged example sold a few months ago in Norm Heckler's auction for over $22.300 with buyer's premium included. Here is a great opportunity to buy a similar flask that displays perfectly from either side, due to the fact that the fissure is along the side mold. And our asking price of $2,700 is a huge discount. This flask is a really nice example of Americana with its strongly embossed eagle with a banner in its beak. And the group of 14 stars above. The lid has 2 chips on the opposite corners, on the bowl there is a crack where the lid sits on inner rim and 2 other chips on rim. The spout has 4 tiny chips on the edge. This measures about 6 3/4" tall and 2 5/8" in width and 1 3/8" thick at the base. One side has a tree full of leaves a bird and the word summer above. The other side has a bare tree with no leaves and a bird. It has the word winter above. On the base is an open rough pontil and what could be a chip on the foot. The view is the Landing of Lafayette at Castle Garden Battery, New York by Clews. This is a very hard to find size and it is a nice looking plate. Condition is very good with only the slightest hint of surface wear and there is some glaze wear on the outer edge/back. One took a slight amount of pottery with it, but I wouldn't consider it a chip. There is also a minor pinhead size nick off the back base rim. American Historical Dark Blue Staffordshire Insane Asylum& City Hall New York Very hard to find circa 1825 Historical dark blue transfer pitcher with views of City Hall and the Insane Asylum New York by Stevenson. Nice size jug that measures 6&3/4" to the rim. 8&3/4" from handle to spout. It displays great with nice transfers and glaze, but there is damage to the spout with an old disintegrating repair. It looks like there was a V shape piece out and reattached with an associated hairline that extends about another inch around the lower part of the spout. There were probably two filled in chips to the end of the spout.roughly about 1/2" each. There is also an old repair remnant to what was a crack through the lower handle attachment and a couple of insignificant glaze rubs on the rim, otherwise fine. Historical Staffordshire Blue and White Covered Bowl Circa 1846 English Registry
This sale is for a Staffordshire Blue and White Transfer Ware Romantic/Historical Covered Bowl in Ironstone. Although the Bowl has a partial mark to identify the name of this pattern. I have not been able to make it out. This Covered Bowl has a English Registry Mark identifying this piece as being registered on December 16, 1846. This piece features a state-like building with landscaping scenery and a river scene with figures. The Pieces have a traditional Staffordshire style flower border. With the cover on this serving piece is about 6-3/4" tall, while uncovered the Bowl is 3-1/4" tall. There are no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs, but there is some small black manufacturing specs in the porcelain. This Circa 1800's piece is in excellent condition. This sale is for a Historical Staffordshire Blue and White Transfer Ware 6" tall Pitcher featuring LaFayette at Franklin's Tomb that I believe is by Enoch Wood& Sons and is Circa 1819- 1846. There are no cracks. Hairlines or repairs. There is a small chip inside the upper lip of the spout and glaze loss or rubbing(roughness) around the edge of the spout. There is age discoloration inside the body of the pitcher and also a brown spot. Please review all my photos. This is a beautiful piece of Staffordshire China. Please be advised that the items I love and sell are vintage and therefore have had a previous history where the items were used. I will explain all the defects that I see. Staffordshire, England c. 1830 This is a very rare early childs three-piece serving tureen from a dinner service made for child’s play or to accessorize an elegant early Victorian dollhouse. The gorgeous little set is printed in a rich cobalt blue against earthenware blanks. Finished with thick pearlware glaze. The sauce tureen measures 3” high. 4” long, with a lid and underplate in proportionate sizes. The set was decorated with a series of English Views originating from copperplate engravings from the year 1810. The individual pieces in the set are marked with the views include Bysham Monastery and Corfe Castle. This is an earlier issues of this set dating to 1830. Later examples in mulberry came about 40 years later. English Views miniature wares are extremely ... morerare. The set is in great condition. With no chips cracks or repairs. Historical blue Staffordshire plate J. Hall 1825 Mahomedan Mosque & Tomb ND2071
Historical blue Staffordshire 9 3/4" plate by J. Hall circa 1825. This plate appears to be one of a series of Oriental Scenery plates. Mahomedan Mosque& Tomb is a design of a mosque and tomb with a rider on camel in the foreground. The transfer is of the highest quality with exquisite detail in the flowers. Trees and buildings. There is some browning on the back of the plate but no cracks. A small chip on the rim was repaired some time ago. It is not immediately noticeable as the edge design was repainted over the ceramic repair. In time the blue has darkened on the repair and the replaced piece is slightly raised. The original chip measured about 3/8" If you mouse over and magnify the first photo, the repair can be seen at about 4:00. This is a lovely piece for display. This is a nice looking and original condition flow blue decorated Historical American scene porcelain pitcher from the late 19th century.it features scenes of the American Pilgrims from 1620 with the Mayflower.Etc.made in England for L.Straus + Sons of NY(marked on bottom) its in very nice overall condition-no cracks,it has a small flea bite on lip.measures 6" x 6" looks and displays well and is guaranteed original and authentic. Bright. Largely clean blue aqua double eagle historical flask. Half Pint. Sticker on bottom says G II 127 variant but there are enough pics for you to dial in on the mold. 6 1/8th inches tall, crude square collared mouth and hand finished mouth loaded with stretch lines and character. NO chips or cracks- only some slight inside haze in the bottom 1 3/8th of the bottle. Nice example of a later era double eagle flask. Examine pics carefully- there are plenty. An antique deep blue transfer ware bowl with an urn and floral pattern marked and made by J& R Clews of England. Marked on the bottom with the traditional impressed mark. Reads“Clews Warranted Staffordshire” and crown mark. Dates to the 1820’s– 30’s. Measures a full 5 5/8 inch in diameter and 1 1/4 inch tall. Condition is excellent as there are NO chips.
