SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 218 millimeters(8 3/4 inches) Diameter: 215 millimeters(8 2/3 inches) at belly; 86 millimeters(3 1/2 inches) at top lip; 165 millimeters(5 2/3 inches) at base. CONDITION: Exceptionally good. Almost perfectly preserved. A little wear consistent with any household item which is over one hundred(perhaps close to two hundred) years in age. The normal blemishes common to hand produced porcelain(warts and dimples, zits and pits) Not flawless, but certainly in an excellent state of preservation– no chips of any significance(even minor) no cracks or crazing. No repairs, entirely original. DETAIL: A splendidly preserved very large traditional blue and white porcelain vase so wonderfully characteristic of late Ming/early Qing Dynasty artwork. The glaze is entirely intact. Vibrant cobalt blue, and the condition of the vase is almost perfect. There are of course a few minor scuffs, marks, dings, etc. all virtually undetectable. This is as good as one can reasonably expect of a vase somewhere between one hundred and two hundred years old. While the vase might not be absolutely perfect, it is about as close to perfect as you will ordinarily find of an authentic porcelain jar like this, and there are no repairs. Of course realistically one would expect some blemishes over a century after it was originally produced, so there are no surprises here except that there are so few blemishes. There are as well a few production blemishes(warts. Dimples, zits and pits) Again really not noticeable, and quite typical of hand-crafted porcelain of the late Ming/early Qing Dynasties. From the Beauties of America Series by John& WilliamRidgway. Is a 14 ¾" meat platter with a crisp blue transfer showing the Deaf& Dumb Assylum, Hartford, Connecticut, c. 1830. The blue transfer shows a large 4-story building in a park-like setting and the platter has the flower medallion border. It measures 14 ¾" x 10 ¾" and is from one of the most beautiful and collected American Historical Staffordshire Series. The back is marked with a blue cartouche: Beauties of America, Deaf& Dumb Assylum, Hartford, Conn. I(J) W Ridgway. Transfer is crisp and clear. Please review the following. The forth photo shows a crack in the platter located along the upper left hand side directly above the first chimney. There is an approximate-1/8" wide 3'4" long piece of the platter missing in the rear side ... moreas seen in photo five with the fracture extending to the base of the platter. Photo six shows a second fracture on the upper edge of the platter between the second and third chimney. The seventh photo show the reverse. There is a inclusion which occurred during the kiln on the rose directly below the larger forward tree right side of the platter to the left of the rose. Here is a BEAUTIFUL Historical Staffordshire sauce tureen from Enoch Woods Shell Border Series. Each side depicts a different maritime scene. These views are shown in Arman's"Historical Staffordshire" on page 67 and listed as"Unidentified View" The piece measures 8" handle to handle and 4" tall. The color is superb and the pearlware glaze nice and glossy. Overall condition is EXCELLENT. On the interior there is a small age line(pic. 6) that can barely be felt with the fingernail on the inside. It DOES NOT go through to the exterior. I believe this tureen dates to the 1820-1840 period. A great little piece at an equally great price! The piece is stamped E. Woods and Sons on the bottom. It measures 10 3/4" wide and is 4" in height. We believe this to be a small wash basin. There is a crack in the bottom that is visible from the front view. It runs from the bottom toward the left. From the man that is fishing and runs upward to the opening of the locks. Who was a supplier to many U.S. cities and historic sites. The image at the center of the plate features the actual house used by General Meade as his headquarters in Gettysburg. An oval cartouche contains a portrait of General Meade and is labeled. Along the inner rim are cartouches of General Meade’s staff and are labeled. The softly scalloped rim is richly decorated with an overall floral pattern. The blue underglaze backmark reads: WHEELOCK(crown logo) England Genl Geo G. Meade Staff and Headquarters Gettysburg 1863. The platter depicts the first White Plains courthouse(erected in 1758 on the current site of the White Plains Armory) Where New York's 4th Provincial Congress received the Declaration of Independence; and where the charter creating New York State was signed on July 9, 1776. Historical Staffordshire Pearlware Large Dark Blue Transferware Creamer circa 1830 ~ Scattered Roses and Leaves on Blue Panels ~ 5 1/2" high ~ about 7" from handle to spout An early Staffordshire molded cream jug that is somewhat larger than most with a kicked up handle and printed with a very deep blue pattern of roses. Flowers and leaves with a beaded string around the rim. It has a raised triangle mark at the bottom but I can't identify a maker although it is of same quality and period as E. Wood, Clews, Stubbs etc. In excellent condition with all smooth surfaces. This was the original family residence of Florence Griswold built in the 1800's and was dedicated as an art colony for early impressionist painters in 1899. They have layers of chipped paint.green, blue, and black, showing their color history. Each shutter has its original hardware and measures 63" x 22" They are heavy and solid. This was originally part of an 8 piece toilet set(chamber set) That would be the large covered two or three piece waste jar. Lidded chamber pot, large pitcher and wash bowl, smaller water pitcher, shaving mug, covered two or three part soap dish, horizontal razor box and vertical toothbrush holder. I could not define this transfer ware pattern but it most likely falls under the category of a British, European or Romantic theme. It measures ... moreabout 4 3/4" long by 3 7/8" wide. The base stands 1 1/8" tall and is 2 7/8" tall to the lid's top. This is a very early example as there is no lid handle or finial. It would predate ironstone or porcelain, most likely earthenware. Flintshire Wales, from the"Select Views" series, with a wide border of fruit and flowers, printed title and maker's name on the reverse, R. Hall, Tunstall, England, 1822-1836. Broken and repaired in 1954. According to the label left on the back; you can see two large staples at either end which were over painted in white to hide them. The crack goes down the middle on both sides and it was possbily broken in half. If it was it was a clean brake and fit back together very nicely without much pottery loss. You really have to look for the crack on the face, on display, the only obvious place it shows it above the cathedral in the sky. The face has some high point wear and scratches seen when tilted in the right light but still has its original pearlware glossy glaze and the color is wonderful. T he old label says this must not be used or washed in water; I wiped off the face with a wet sponge and nothing came off but I left the old tape and label in place. Stubbs& Company Incorporated that was located in Louisville Kentucky downtown at 219-221 E. Jefferson St. It was found in a old partly collapsed pole barn in Borden Indiana in a old rusted tool box. Some how. Some way, for the past 88 years of sitting in that barn, it survived the weather, bugs and critters. The metal box that housed this artifact was labeled blue ribbon and nearly crumbled in my hands as I tried to open it to see what was inside. Damage? The outer cover has a tiny bit of moisture mark at the very bottom but it is minor. Very minor. The outer cover at the fold of the binding is split half way but still intact. I don't know about you but for a 88 year old booklet left out in the elements it should have been destroyed over years upon years ago. The print and ads and info on the inside are remarkable. Look at the pictures and you be the Judge. Also when looking at the pictures you'll notice a loose order form that was sitting on top of the booklet. G-11-24 RARE SAPPHIRE-BLUE DOUBLE EAGLE HISTORICAL FLASK PRIVY DUG MAJOR DAMAGE
Rare sapphire blue double eagle pint size historical flask. The flask has a sheared fire polished lip& a pontiled base. The height is 6 1/2 inches& the width is 4 1/4 inches. Both sides have an eagle(mostly gone on one side) a large eight pointed star in an oval below eagle and fourteen stars above eagle. Yes. That is correct, there are fourteen stars above the eagle. This historical flask design is listed in"American Glass" by McKearin. The design is listed under No. 146 as G-II-24 on pages 540-541. McKearin mentions various colors that the bottle was made in. The example we are offering appears to us to possibly be in a sapphire-blue color. Since McKearin lists one in sapphire-blue perhaps our name for the color of our bottle is correct. But. We know that flask collectors often have different names for specific colors. ... moreSo, please buy based on your own specific designation of the color. This is a rare flask in this color! This flask was dug in a privy in Ohio. As you can see from the photos this rare flask is in very rough& incomplete condition. The surface shows some surface stains from being under the ground most of its life. When the flask was found it was entirely broken apart at a number of areas& it was in numerous pieces of assorted sizes. All of the pieces found were carefully glued back together. The result is that a large part of the flask is present. However. A large part of the flask is missing. There are numerous pieces of various sizes that are entirely missing from the flask as clearly shown in the photos. The flask was possibly made by the Kentucky Glass Works. But. We are not certain. If made by the Louisville Glass Works the flask was made circa 1850's. If made by some other glass works the flask may date slightly earlier. We will, of course, take great care in packing this flask. It will be packed in multiple very sturdy boxes with lots of bubble pack& bubbles.
