This old beauty measures a bit more than 9 ½” by 9 ½” and stands nearly 6 ½” to the top of its lid’s floral-shaped knob. The bowl stands about 2 ¼” tall at the outer edge. The featured scene on the inside bottom of the bowl and the lid includes the*Monastery of Batalha. Several people in the foreground(along with a dog) as well ... moreas sheep and their caretaker. A two-inch-plus wide rim on the bowl and lid features flowers on a deep blue background. The bowl has a shallow under-rim chip that is nearly undetectable from the front and two other insignificant chips on its foot(see photo) It also has a 1” extremely fine hairline that is barely visible on the backside at one corner(not in the least visible on the front) The floral knob has a small chip on the underside of one petal(see photo) None of the aforementioned items interfere in the least with the beauty or functionality of the piece. It measures 4" long. 3 1/8” across, with a scalloped rim, impeccably potted and finely transfer printed with pearlware glaze. According to Coysh and Henrywood. This tiny piece of Chinoiserie, with elements of gothic and classical design, depicts a Queen escorted by a blackamoor holding a parasol and 2 children holding her train. Doris Lechler, in her book‘English Toy China’ attributes the pattern to Spode. According to the Transferware Collectors Club and others, it may have been made by Minton. It dates to 1820-1830. Like all known pieces in this pattern, this diminutive plate is unmarked. This is a wonderful 19th century Dark Blue Historical Staffordshire Pitcher by Enoch Wood& Sons in the pattern of Lafayette At Franklin's Tomb. It is in beautiful estate condition. The pitcher measures approximately 5-3/4" tall at the highest point x 8" wide from spout tip to backside of the handle. There are NO repairs. NO restoration and NO re-glazing. As shown in the photos. There is one small chip with 3/4" tight hairline directly at the side rim where there is a skip in the transfer. There are expected, age appropriate edge rubs(roughness) most noticeably at the spout and rim edges, as shown in the photos. The exterior underside shows 2 faint spider lines with an interior bottom line visible. The dark blue transfer shows beautiful clarity. Offered is an early flow blue transfer Staffordshire plate by Clews c.1825. Plate is marked Clews on the back as shown in the photos. Excellent condition for its age with no chips or cracks. Historical Blue Staffordshire Teapot Lafayette at Franklin's Tomb E Wood Sons
This dark blue historical Lafayette at Benjamin Franklin's Tomb teapot is in wonderful estate condition- however. Please note that it is missing it's beehive lid. We may still come across it as we have just started going through the basement, but will have to list it in another auction if we find it. There is a minor crows foot line on the bottom side which does not go through- please see the very clean inside with the lovely pottery ridges showing. There is a minor spot of dark discoloring on the very tip of the spout, which appears to be a kiln mark rather than a repair, but we have photographed this very close up so that you can judge accordingly. It is virtually unnoticeable unless looking very close up. The handle and exterior and interior of the body are just wonderful with gorgeous deep hues of blue. A rare early 19th century Staffordshire bowl with central eagle and shield transfer and Leeds type blue edge. It is impress marked"Adams" Measures 8" across and 1&1/4" deep. A very thorough Condition Report: There are no chips. Cracks or repairs. There is a minute pinpoint nick in the glaze on the interior rim that is extremely minor. If you look closely at the last photo, you can see there is a faint 1&1/4" long spidered crazing line in the glaze on the back to the left of the impressed mark that is only in the glaze and does not go through at all. The interior surface is nice with a few very light utensil marks seen when tilted in light. There is some lightening or glaze rubbing around the very outside edge of the rim, although I think it occurred during firing from the glaze being thin at the edge. Beautiful Scroll Historical Flask, Pint, Iron Pontil, Rich Blue Aqua
We are pleased to offer this gorgeous pint scroll flask with killer red iron pontil mark. The color is a deeper than typical blue aquamarine. Even a little richer than the scroll we sold a week ago on Ebay. We have shown it next to a typical aqua medicine bottle for color comparison. It has a nice sheared lip, and a super impression. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, or the open bubbles often found on these flasks. There is a tiny indention that can be felt on the sheared lip. We have studied this under a jeweler's loupe, and are certain it was just part of the shearing process. This pretty flask was likely blown at Louisville Glass Works, and this heavy red iron pontil mark is somewhat typical of Midwestern glass. ST KATHERINE...Historical Dark Blue SUGAR BOWL Staffordshire Transferware Cobalt
Established local business since 1972. DESCRIPTION: This is a beautiful earthenware soft paste sugar bowl and lid in THE ROYAL HOSPITAL OF ST. KATHERINE IN REGENT'S PARK image. It measures about 7" long from flower-embossed-scroll-handle to flower-embossed-scroll-handle. Is 4 3/8" wide at the extended edge of the shoulder, is 4 3/4" tall to the flared neck at the ends and stands about 6" tall to the lid's finial when set on the base. It is the correct lid for the base. The pattern is categorized as a British themed place. I have seen the same exact border on two different pieces categorized as floral and botanical, floral and scrolls, other, however, it is also categorized as floral and botanical, floral and scroll, alternating floral groups. Someone needs to pick one and stick with it. This pattern depicts a hospital ... morealong a lake or river's edge flanked by two trees with a sailboat in the water. Thomas Shepherd is original artist who drew this image from which this was copied and transferred to ceramics. The original engraver or plate maker was W. Tombleson in 1827 so this dates between 1827 and 1850. This still dates to the first half of the 19th century.Why buy today's cheap knock offs when you can spend a bit more to preserve, use and pass on these antique pieces? There are five assorted chips/flakes/chiggers around the flared lip of the base. The interior is lightly stained along with the exterior bottom. There are two flakes around the inside lip where the lid overs it. The lid is in great shape with attached(NOT repaired) finial. This can be picked up at the September Brimfield, MA antique show to forgo the shipping charges. Partial payment will still be required at the end of the auction to hold it.
