I acquired this tile over 35 years ago along with three others in the same bird design and this one offered here is the in the best condition of all four tiles(see last photo that shows another example side-by-side) The dealer that sold them said that the four tiles were ... moresalvaged from a church demolished in Portugal that dated from the late 1500s. I have searched many tile publications and books and have never found any other examples. The front of the tile exhibits some indentations and imperfections from manufacture and a few pin holes but no evidence of corner pegging as found on many Dutch tiles.
