Noticeable outside the frame is one chip on the side and a one on the top. There is no maker's mark. The tile measures approximately 5" X 5" and the frame dimensions are 6 1/2" X 6 1/2" I am also selling a similar tile from the same time period under a different listing. Measurements: Tile is approximately 5" X 5" and outer frame dimensions of frame are 6 1/2" X 6 1/2" Age: Based on my research. I believe the tile dates sometime between 1690-1790. No cracks, no restorations this tile has been used and therefore has very slight damages on the sides. This auction is for a Delft Blue occupational tile. Designed by Jan. Luyken it depicts the sculptor. It measures 6" square. The back is marked"Delft Blauw. Handpainted, made in Holland" It is also impressed(twice) with the numbers 88 88. There is a hanger on the back and a felt square on each corner. It is in wonderful condition with no cracks, crazing, or scratches. There is a tiny flea on the very top edge(almost directly above the e) it is tiny(less than 1/8 of an inch, and barely nicks the surface glaze) This is one of the rarest of the occupational tiles.

This wonderful lively image of a cavalier was probably taken from a printed book or book of engravings on military practice. It depicts a cavalier with typical large hat charging at the enemy with his sword drawn and leaning across the horse's neck. Possibly a tactic designed to give additional protection to the sword bearer. The tile measures 5 inches by 4 ⅞ inches by ¼ inch thick.
