This is a beautiful antique Dutch Delft blue and white six-tile panel painting depicting a rural scene in Holland. C1900, with a man shoeing a horse in front of the local blacksmith shop and another man inside working in the fire near an anvil.very detailed(the light area at the top of the closeup picture is from my flash) In the background are thatched roof homes and a large windmill. It is signed by J.C.V. Hunnik. The tiles are mounted in a strong wooden frame creating a beautiful tray with brass handles. This tray is one that even in Holland hard to find. If you like Delft Blue than this is one you can't miss. It was never used. Only displayed on the wall, and is in excellent condition overall. The tile on the holder is glazed and in good shape. The back of the holder is unglazed and shows some yellowing. Corners so-called“lily” According to Pluis. Design to be catalogued as B.13.00.01. The dark blue enamel is brought on very thickly. Probably following a new recipe. The painting has not flowed during the firing of the tile, what should be expected in applying the enamel so thickly. The tile for those reasons must be expected to be RARE. Some specialists told seller that the tile is an original and for that reason very exclusive. Other specialists told seller that the tile is not an original but a badly executed 19 th century reproduction of this design. Painted on a 16 th century white tile. But in that case finding a 16 th century white tile of that ... morethickness would be of the utmost exclusiveness. Painting very strong. A small piece missing left down corner. No restorations. THIS IMPRESSIVE PORTRAIT IS OBVIOUSLY A WELL-TO-DO MAN IN HIS RENAISSANCE FINERY. IT LOOKS A LITTLE LIKE A REMBRANDT PORTRAIT I SAW ONCE. I THINK THIS TILE IS PRETTY OLD. THE TILE IS PROBABLY 6 INCHES SQUARE OUT OF THE FRAME. THE FRAME IS 8-1/4 INCHES SQUARE AND ON THE BACK HAS A PARTLY FADED OUT STAMP THAT SAYS"MADE IN UK" THE TILE HAS NO DAMAGE. BUT THE RIGHT BOTTOM CORNER OF THE FRAME DOES. A BLUE STAMP ON THE BACK OF THE TILE HAS A PICTURE OF A CROWN, PLUS"HAND PAINTED DELFT HOLLAND" THERE ARE TWO DEPRESSED CIRCLES ON THE BACK OF THE TILE. IN ONE IS THE LETTER"G" AND IT IS INSIDE A WREATH THAT DOESN'T QUITE CLOSE AT THE TOP. IN THE SECOND DEPRESSION ARE SOME NUMBERS AND THREE ROWS OF RAISED DOTS. I AM DOWNSIZING. 1907 Delft Blue Wall Plaque Tile 8" x 9-3/4" after Jan Vrolyk Joost Thooft
This auction is for one 8" x 9-3/4" Delft Blue Wall Plaque/Tile. Produced by Joost Thooft& LaBouchere, impressed mark on reverse) De Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles. The artwork is after Dutch artist, Jan Vrolyk. The subject is a pasture scene with three cows grazing near a cow pond in the foreground and a fourth cow grazing in the background with a farmer close by. I checked the Royal Delft site on the internet and found the following information about the letters and numbers on the back: the"393" is an internal company code; the"F" is the painter's initial; and the"AC" denotes the year code of its production, 1907. Condition: at the top of the plaque on the front. There are three areas of damage where edge pieces of the picture are missing. At the top edge on the back of the tile there are two ... morevery tiny chips where the tile may have once been toe nailed into a frame, as I have seen other examples displayed this way. With this pieces, however, there was no frame when we received it. There is overall crazing on both the front and back. Backing is smooth and suggests it was never part of a hearth or kitchen design. Created circa 1760-1800. The price tags on them were written by my grandmother. These beautiful tiles are in good condition, without any significant chips or cracks(other than standard pottery cracks from heating in kiln which you can see under the glaze) All four are Authentic. Antique Delft tile, purple decoration. Backing is uneven and suggests it was removed from use, like at a hearth or kitchen area. The price tags on them were written by my grandmother.
