Beautiful Antique French Majolica Celedon Green Peacock Butter Pat, fm830
Offered for your collecting enjoyment from my last trip to France is this lovely antique majolica butter pat. It is only marked"france" on the back so I do not know the maker. It is possible it could be many of the factories in the east of France as I found this in Metz which is in the east of France close to the German border. It is a lovely peacock with his feathers spread to attract a mate. It is in a wonderful celedon green which is rarely seen! It measures about 2.75 inches wide and 2.25 inches from top of the feathers to the bottom of his tummy. This is just a magnificent piece! Up for auction is an Antique Transferware Butter Pat or Salt Dish. Off white& brown w flowers. This is an old ironstone original small dish. It measures approx 2 1/2 in across and approx 1/2 in deep. It has crazing. Small chips on the underside corners, discoloration, small bumps from when it was made, no makers mark. I am not sure what it is, could be a butter pat, or salt dish, etc. It has a shiny gloss finish on it. If you are looking for it to be in perfect condition it is not. Here is a gorgeous unmarked BUTTER PAT mini plate. This pat boasts a decorative sprig of Roses/ flowers that make a horizontal line through the center of the pat. There is gold trim around the edge of the butter pat. No nicks or chips. But there is some very slight crazing and very slight wear on some of the gold on the rim. Probably no big deal, but I would rather mention this than not. The shape of the pat is round. However, I would say there is a light scallop design that make this pat unique. A mortar and pestle are tools used in the process of trituration. Which is the act of reducing substances to small particles by rubbing them in a mortar with a pestle. Marked on the bottom in blue, Hand Painted Nippon" They measure 3.5" long x 2 and 3/8" wide. I've never seen such intricate, fine art quality painting on an object so small! The light blue border looks so pretty with the purples and greens. Perfectly frames the painting against the white porcelain. The detail of the bright orange flower center and hair thin drawing of the vines is stunning. Four of the six are in mint condition. The other two have just slight imperfections with a tiny chip.
